  1. A guy on Craigslist had a couple pallets of Ammo Cans that he was selling for $8 and $12 per can, depending on the size. I then called a Army Surplus Store they were selling them for $5 & $7 (plus tax) for the same sizes. I went to the hunting/camping section of Walmart and asked for cammo tape and their reply was, "We don't carry any cammo."
  2. I know what you mean. Once I tregged through tall grass, lept over small streams, slipped on muddy sand, avoided the local wildlife droppings, and got socks full of stickers only to find a micro hanging from a tree. It would have been the perfect location for an ammo can. I do enjoy a nice park-n-grab everynow and then, though.
  3. I'm really curious what the story was on this one. Was it really inside a library? One of the logs reads: (OtisPug was the cache owner.) What the heck are they referring to? I must know! Otis is an Elevator. So I assume that you had to use the elevator to go up to level 5. When they say Otis doesn't want to play. I assume they meant that the Elevator wasn't working.
  4. Hello fellow GeoCachers! I'll be going from Houston to Salt Lake City for Thanksgiving and plan to transport some TBs and Geocoins while I'm there. If you come across any TBs or GCs that are heading in that direction (or anywhere if they don't have a specific destination), please place them in one of the following two TB Hotels: GCQF8F - Salt Lake City Travel Bug Hotel GCZ3CA - Manordale Inn (West Houston) Also, to make sure that I don't inadvertently sidetrack a TB that doesn't want to go to Utah or Texas, please place the ones you want me to transport in a bag labeled Utah or Texas. I plan to pick them up from Manordale Inn a few days before I fly out (on the 26th) to give me a chance to review the mission statements. When I get to Utah, I will swap them with the TBs in the Salt Lake City Travel Bug Hotel and then bring the SLC TBs back to Houston and place them in the Manordale Inn. The distance between the two is about 1,200 miles.
  5. Thanks for everyones responses. My question is answered.
  6. That contradicts what markandsandy stated, doesn't it?
  7. I think geocaching can be a great exercise. My favorite is in a downtown setting. I recently entered several coordinates of GeoCaches located in Downtown Houston. One afternoon, I walked around Houston for 3 hours and found 8 out of the 11 caches. I would never have walked for 3 hours straight on a treadmill. I hope your YMCA'ers enjoy it as much as I do. I just wish I had more free time to do it more often. For Thanksgiving, when I'm in Utah, my brother and I plan to do a walking tour of downtown Salt Lake City.
  8. My GPS gives me the option of entering an elevation when I enter coordinates for a GeoCache that I want to find. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone list the elevation in their GeoCache listing. For Thanksgiving, I will be travelling to Utah and I plan to do some GeoCaching with my Brother, while I'm there. Houston, where I'm from, has an elevation of about 70ft. Salt Lake City has an elevation of about 4,400 feet. When I enter the coordinates for the GeoCaches in the Salt Lake area the default elevation is around 70ft. Do I need to estimate the elevation of the SLC GeoCaches when I enter the coordinates? And if so, what if I'm off by 50ft. Will my GPS start going nuts when it shows that I'm 50ft above/below GZ?
  9. I need a favor from anyone who finds themselves GeoCaching in the Barstow, California area. In the mid 80's when I was about 13 or 14 years old, my cousin and I were visiting my grandparents who used to own 500 acres of land out in the Barstow desert. We decided we would hike up the mountain and place a bottle with paper and a pencil in it so anyone who found it could add their names and dates. In 2000 or 2001, I hiked up there again and found it stuffed with paper and signatures and poems and quotes and anything else people wanted to write. I now live in Texas, but I would really like to make this an official GeoCache. But I need to make sure it is still there and to get the precise coordinates. I have pretty close GPS coordinates. Also, it's easy to find because there is a big white K on the mountain almost to the top and if I remember, the bottle was under a pile of rocks not too far from the K. (My brother and I painted the K on the Mountain). the coordinates of the K (known because you can see it on Google Earth) are N 35 00'45.29" W 116 56'01.13" Whoever is the FTF, please reply with the precise coordinates and the condition of the bottle.
  10. Will it also work for the 200 series? That is the one I'm considering buying.
