  1. So let's test this theory you have then. I claim it to be a theory because I see no proof yet to conclude you are right and my opinion is different than yours in this matter. Open a thread in the general topics encouraging people to post pics, random pics of nothingness, just to make you laugh. Give it 72 hours. As a prize give away a bison tube, which is something that falls under that topic very nicely. If the thread isn't moved or closed, then maybe you are onto something, but if it is, then maybe I am closer to the right answer. I'll even pay for the bison tube. So you have nothing to lose, and all to gain. How about a link to the thread so we can all watch this one. Heck, I took the bait. Let's see what happens. Looks like the thread was deleted entirely. So much for staying within the guidelines and this kind of thing being allowed elsewhere.
  2. Wasn't there a woe is me, life stinks post a few of months ago? One that resulted in the OP being on the receiving end of NUMEROUS "Get Well Soon" Gifts! NUMEROUS? You mean the tongue in cheek thread that resulted in less than 3 coins being sent, and the people sending them being told BEFORE sending them that the thread was tongue in cheek? And those coins becoming a donation to an event instead of a person? Yeah I remember that thread. It sure was sad.
  3. Ahh it brings back memories of GW6. If I only had pics I could have posted them in another thread and won a coin.
  4. When you put it that way. It sounds so final. Sorry
  5. You are missing the point and I can't tell if it's on purpose or you just aren't undderstanding me. Is it in the guidelines or not when the prize is the only thing related to the place where the contest is held. This is the theory we are trying to test. Your contest is about as caching related as you could make it. That doesn't test anything at all.

You made it as caching related as you could. The idea behind this is the prize alone makes it related. I still don't think it will last, but it stands a much better chance than a duplicate of a contest here. We need to comapare apples to apples not apples to oranges. Now if you edit it to reflect the same as was held here, we will have a comparison.

  8. Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement in these forums, probably next month. We will do another run of these starting then so they will be here in plenty of time for GCF.
  9. Only people who have posted in the geocoin forums are eligible for this cointest. Socks are not allowed and will be prosectuted to the fullest extent of the law. You sir have been eliminated.
  10. And yet you were doing so well. There is still a tie for first place though. Keep up the not posting everyone!
  11. How long can you hold your breath posts? I often wonder about some people. It almost seems like they can hold their breath longer than their posts. So let's see who can hold out the longest. Coin will be of my choosing. Cointest ends when we have a winner. If the thread is closed early then the cointest is null and void and said coin will be donated to GCF. Everything must be within the guidelines and try to use common sense as well. It's not that hard and only hurts the first time. OK time to start. Who can hold out posting the longest? If you post here, you are out. If you post in another thread, you are out. If you post elsewhere on GC, you are out. Last person to post after the time this OP is posted wins. Winner can contact me by posting to this thread. No PMs please. OK so let's begin... 3 2 1 ...Game on.
  12. I'll take that as a compliment, I think. Tsun because half these cointests are her fault anyhow.
  13. Because I have to wade through this crap to find any real discussions about GeoCoins.
  14. I don't know if you are a begger or not because I tend to skip those topics. It started leaving a bad taste in my mouth when everytime someone was kind enough to spend their money on being nice to the community, and all you see is a bunch of people sayign send one here. Once is one thing, but the same people begged for days for a coin. That's kind of taking the fun out of it doncha think? If you want to put that hat on and wear it, then that's your call. But don't tell me what my eyes see since you aren't behind them. As for my thread, a few people sent coins (less than 3 total) and they were donated to GCF. If you didn't get the tongue in cheek thread then you probably won't get it now, but it basically was a way to express myself and frustration at how the forums have become nothing but a place for people to come to to whine, beg, and ask for freebies and hand outs. Everything I said there was true, but anyone who knows me knows I am not going to come here with all my personal drama for the world to see. I didn't want coins, I wanted to get over the hump of too many cointests and missions polluting the discussions. This use to be about coin disciussions as the title implies. What's wrong with taking back the forums to what they are intended to be, use to be, and should be for? If you want to play off topic games, then why is it so bad to ask you to do that where it is intended to be? Heck I don't even think it needs to go to the general off topic forums, but rather think these people should get one here. Why's that bad?
  15. I couldn't disagree more. If it was split I would rarely be in the cointest area. Yea I would go from time to time when bored or someone called something to my attention, but other than that I am not sure I would be there much at all. This is another example brought to light of the problem. Too many people use this place as a hand out service and are here trying to do nothing but get free things. Funniest of all is when these same people are crying when a cointest is ran and they get upset when they don't win. I answered one a short time ago and was the first correct answer without an edit, but was told I was second place. Me thinks it was a personal thing, but I don't care. I am not here to win it or anything. Typically my answers are flip or for fun. I don't need the coin. Don't get me started on the number of beggers we have for mystery coins.
  16. Every topic is split into at least 2 different sides. In this case, when you are speaking of yourself and those who agree on a subject with you, then it would be us guys and the people who disagree are those guys. It's not a bad thing and not a permanat thing. The next topic you might be on the us team instead of the those guys team. It's easier to change teams than underwear, and some do it throughout the thread. Of course there's always room for the third grouping who aren't for or against but are just here to stir the pot and offer nothing of substance to the conversation.
  17. They do have to wade through it to find anything or importance or an actual discussion. What's wrong with moving it to it's own section and allowing your guys to do whatever you want, within the guidelines of course. Seems there is so much resistance to change from the crowd that says change is goog and us old timers need to accept change. Funny when the shoe is on the other foot.
  18. Looks like Geo.Error's cointest got some complaints, and wound up locked. (through no fault of Geo.Error's ) This isn't about one thread. This is about a whole page of them daily. That was just the latest in off topic posting.
  19. We have another Geocide being committed as we speak! You my friend have won yourself a Geocide GeoCoin. This is one of the older, but long standing cointests. Sned me your address and I will mail you a LE GeoCide GeoCoin.
  20. What is "fun" for you, maybe be more work to another and lacks fun. Remember there are others that disagree with you and think there needs to be a seperate area. So what makes your opinion right and ours wrong? Nothing. It's an opinion. If we can do something minor to streamline the forums so everyone can have fun, wouldn't that be a good thing? What's wrong with a seperate area for you to have your fun? It doesn't make it any less fun. It doesn't mean your fun isn't as fun as it was before. It doesn't even spoil your fun. What it does do is help others who don't want to have to wade through the posts and threads looking for info about actual coins. They now would be able to go to their area and look at just the facts ratehr than have to search through pages to find a thread that was just there yesterday. You want to help them out as well don't you? You say debate like it is a bad word. Good things come from talking about an issue and seeing if there is a way to improve it. Where you see a debate, I see a way to communicate and create progress for the future. Discuss on my friend!
  21. Actually I commented on your whole post and didn't edit anything. It's your words that are making you look bad, not mine. Actually your post is what you made you look like an...Nah I can't say that. I know the guidelines. I am in that thread as well stating my views. Check it out. But please don't think that was a hit on you. Thicker skin is needed in the forums than that. Actually porn is a subjective term and not really relevant here. I didn't say it was porn or anything. I said it lacked common sense and was way over the line as per the GC guidelines. If you are so unsure of what is allowed and what isn't, then maybe you should spend more time brushing up on the guidelines than posting stupid pics. IS IT TIME TO CLOSE THIS THREAD YET???
  22. Sure it does. A person holds a contest and gives away a geocoin. They are not giving away a GPSr or a set of TB tags. Since they are giving away a coin and posting it in the geocoin forum they are on topic. Many cointests have stipulations or questions geared towards geocoins or their icons themselves. Are you suggesting that these cointests are off-topic as well? Or, would these cointests be okay, but other cointests asking different questions not be okay? Wanting to separate cointests and mission threads from the general geocoin forum opens up a slippery slope...pretty soon there will be forums for all the imaginable nuances of a specific topic. Do you really think GC.com wants the headache of all sorts of forums when a few do the job quite well? Try using this same logic in the general caching area where you hold a contest and give away a bison tube and see how quickly it gets moved into the off topic area. Try giving away a piece of software in that section and again it will be moved. This is the only place where it is an ongoing situation. I don't want to see heavy moderation. I actually hate excessive rules, but sadly there are more and more people who can't use common sense when posting and have started using cointests as nothing more than a way to start threads that in any other manner wouldn't be allowed. If people can't use their own judgement and start thinking a little bit, then GC is going to take away your (general useage) choices and put a blanket rule up.
  23. Are you seriously trying to make me believe that you thought it was OK to post a naked woman in a family friendly forum all in the name of winning a coin? There are a set of guidelines here and further than that there is an amount of common sense that should go into a post. If you couldn't figure that out on your own, then you should go read the guidline lines before posting any more. I love how you try to make it my fault for your post because I didn't take the time to correct you. As I was walking out the door to work this morning I saw your post and couldn't believe someone would actually stoop so low for a coin. I didn't have the time to try to "correct" you, even if I wanted to. Furthermore, I am not a Moderator here so I don't feel it's my place to have to correct you. We are grown adults, so maybe you should take responsibility for your actions rather than try to shift the blame on someone because they didn't stop you from doing something so stupid. I am not complaining, but ratehr using your post to illustrate how far these so called "cointests" have gone over the deep end and have no buisness here masquarding as a part of geocoins. While some cointests can be fun, too much of anything is going to ruin it, and this was a perfect example of how badly it can be ruined.
  24. Cointests started out about coins. They now have as much to do about coins as does circus animals. They have seemed to become more of nothing but an avenue to be as off topic as possible. Just because the "prize" is a coin doesn't make it relevant to geocoins. Cointests are as common now as breathing air. Hold your breath as long as you can and another one will pop up. Most of these fall into the off topic area and belong there. Since there is already a section for that, maybe it is time people start using that area. I know several people have balked at that because it would cause them to actually pony some money up in support of the forums they use on a daily basis. *GASP* It's rather ironic that people have the money to give a coin away and pay for the shipping, but can't pay a few bucks for a premium membership to a site they use on a daily basis. In case you couldn't tell, I am all for seperating actual coin info and discussions from off topic contests with a prize.
  25. Not sure where the FUN was in posting a bunch of photoshopped pics all in the name of wining a coin is. Of course I guess most missed Tschakko's post of a bare breasted woman with two men pretending to breast feed from her. I would love to see someone try to justify that one as being just for FUN! I guess anything goes in a family forum when trying to win a free coin though.
