  1. Hi, I sort of hoped someone would take my remaining caches off my hands but not replies. Therefore I am going to call it a day. Thanks for some great caches - I wish these could have been maintained. I hope those who passed this way in Yorkshire enjoyed them. Sleepless42
  2. Help! I just don't have the time any more to maintain several of my caches in the BD24 area - around Settle area. It's a shame as most are frequently visited and plenty of positive comments. I will return to caching but currently other things stop me from maintaining my caches as I would like to. Anyone interested in adopting any before I archive them. Please email me for details. Thanks
  3. I once left a necklace purchased for 50p from a charity stall at a fete. Someone found it and commented that it was worth something. Turned out to be valued at aprox £50. The kind finder offered it to be returned but I thought it was a fair find and declined. I always trade up but many of my cache boxes have bee traded down - they start off beautifully and soonm get depleated. Sort of spoils the fun. Charity shops are a good source of good cheap fun. Why do people leave those calling cards??? Beats me
  4. Whilst replacing worn down pencils at the start of the new term it occured to me that folks might actually use them in caches. These are used pencils which are now to short to encourage the children to write legibly but ideal for using in cache boxes. So, I have not thrown them away and will mail them FOC to anyone who will use them. Send me an email and I will forward some to you. happy Caching in 2006 (I have about 40 so plenty to go around!)
  5. Funny old thing... I was introduced to geocaching by Leoness whilst at a New Year Party. It sounded fun, we had a GPS and had our first find the very next day at a cache close to home. Since I have hidden a lot, found out which caches I prefer, walked some fantastically memorable walks and learned a great deal about the geography of the Yorkshire Dales where I am fortunate enough to live. Incidentally I have just noticed today is my second birthday as a geocacher!
  6. Congratulations to WalkerGeoff for his 250th cache. Have I put this in the right spot??? Thanks for placing my queen 111 cache - she's having a 'right royal jaunt'!
  7. I know a day after the event but thought this might make amusing/interesting/ downright stupid reading (and I am an infrequent forum visitor I thought it might encourage me!) So what's yours? Mine is to ensure that on every cache I visit I cache in trash out. I listened recently to a guy on the radio saying he had travelled from North Wales to Ben Nevis and spent some days walking and collecting litter. When asked what he thought about people who dropped the litter he simply replied it wasn't worth expanding the energy to make a comment, he got a kick out of doing something positive. Fair comment. We all must see mountains of litter in all sorts of places (my pet hate is people who stuff sweet wrappers in dry stone walls why???) So, I am going to pick it up from now on and not even wonder why. Maybe an idea for a new thread - whats the most useful/downright bizarre/ disgusting (and the list continues) thing you brought home from a caching trip today? I also intend to put carrier bags in film containers into caches so people can use them and replace them in another - it will make a change from declining yet another Mc Donalds toy. Now theres a thought (albeit not an original one...)
  8. Oh and I also put a neclace that I had found for 50p at a car boot sale (a good place to buy inexpensive good quality swops) Madaxeman picked it up and left a message saying it was of some value. When researched it was thought to be worth about £50. He offered it back but I declined... (how moral is that - the offering , not the declining)
  9. I had a first sort of a prize. A travel bug whose task was to travel the three peaks in a oner. I offered up a bottle of bubbly - and it was legitimately claimed! The said bug was removed from the peaks and collected by me (ahh) Who never got her lazy bottom out of gear to return it to its peak pastures so changed its mission ! It seemed a good idea at the time! I never offer a first to find prize as such but there are always good quality cache prizes initially placed in my boxes (I placed Leoness' 40th birthday present in hers Leoness' Yorkshire Den - with the hope that she would be FTF - she was.) Perhaps thread should be - how long does good cache contents deteriorate to trash - not long around here but hey ho only a game and nothing a few pounds won't resolve.
  10. Now I CAN DO Yorkshire Dales! (well anywhere that Harrogate Hunter cannot!)
  11. Is there anyone who would be interested in a house swop in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in England? Its just an idea and I would dearly love to visit New Zealand. I am a teacher so limited to school holiday periods only.
  12. I'll add my tenpenneth worth too. Well done!
  13. Blimey, all that interest! I am now off to rate myself. (and I'm a female and not a bloke before any rude returns!)
  14. Thanks everyone - and I didnt make it public! I am touched but then many of you will have worked that one out for yourself!! [/Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" ] ]
  15. I shouldn't worry he's a nice enough guy. I had one of his travel bugs cremated in a cache! He didn't condemn me or publicly flog me so you should be OK!!
  16. Surely it is a normal cache - and where are the stipulations for a TB hotel. I say well done for getting out there and placing one. I shall pay it a visit for sure.
  17. Yes they do own a GPS... get in touch with me if you want me to contact them.
  18. I didn't say I knew how it would work - and the idea of leather thongs and other such 'get ups' would definitely be out up a cold peak somewhere - you could catch your death... It would however, avoid the complication of explaining just what you got up to in your spare time (Geo whating???) Could always have a 'lost souls' forum... for them who seek a mate. And Rutson... not allowed if you already have a wife - there's other venues for such capers!
  19. Thank goodness I can now see its been changed. I too watched Salmon Farming, and Juniper Bush planting in the Lake District. Oh and Michaela Strachan walking the South Devon Coastal footpath (thought that might have been your caching mate!
  20. I'll help if you still need enthusiastic people.
  21. With love being in the air and Valentines day just around the corner what about this (I have to say that I am happily submerged??) in a great relationship but there may be others who are not quite so fortunate ... What about Geo dating? Not suggesting meeting at a designated cache (although speed dating event would be amusing in the wilds of Yorkshire!) There must be some folk out there who are keen to contact others of the opposite sex for friendship, companionship (I'll keep it censored). Maybe just someone to share a nice trip out with and who knows? Perhaps all cachers are attached (or those who are not are happily unattached). Just a thought... I might play cupid even. You never know we might even get out first geocaching wedding. Remember it was my suggestion... now where's my hat!
  22. Hmmm... Usefully reassuring that other people make mistakes too. I have, in the past (Sulber Gate being a classic - oops sorry!) become Geocachingly paranoid and am always grateful when people log a FTF with no sarcastic comments! Hey ho... only a game and a bit of fresh air never hurt anyone. Still if I didn't put more out then there would be nothing to find... albeit eventually!
  23. Well done Leecee - and of course some of them are mine!
