  1. I upgraded from a Montan 600 to the 610 for Glonass. But they changed the track menu to one like the Oregon I believe. What does pause do? Also the settings give choices of auto start which I don't understand yet. As well as auto pause. About the current track screen (the one with the circle around the right facing arrow) there is an option for pause. When I pause it and go to trip computer it still is counting time but not on the current track screen... confusing to say the least. Tell me how these new settings are used when say walking into the woods or trails.
  2. I hear ya..but I can tell you this...the 610 crashed way worse then my 600 did or does.. My 600 is totally reliable to me now..and I use it all the time..year round all day long adventures..record the whole day with an external antenna into the mountains and were ever.. The 610 did some hairy things..don't need it.
  3. I used the 610 all day yesterday and found some bugs. It jammed up shut down pretty bad.... I did a reset and still no dice....so it's going back and I'll keep using my 600 Montana..until the bugs are worked out. I thought the software would be the same and no new bugs as My 600 works so great but they've changed it some so that is what happened probably... typical of new products from Garmin...software issues that is.
  4. I fooled again yesterday and got some observations... The external antennas really boosted the signals and picked up more satellites then not using one. And although it was hard to tell which antenna if any worked best be it Glonass/GPS combo or Gilsson GPS it was tricky because of normal satellite jumping. But I did notice when I left the Glonass/GPS connected for a 1/2 hr it really locked on to all the satellites better then the Gilsson when left on. I'll do this again (leave them connected for 1/2 or more) when I have some time and take screen shots to compare. The glonaa/gps antenna seemed to have a better spec sheet not to say Gilsson doesn't as he may of left alot of spec out. I found a company in China that made me up 2 glonass/gps antennas with a mcx right angle with a 1 meter cable and will be getting them soon. I'll be testing them as well.
  5. I don't think I'm going to like that...I have old tired eyes and got along fine with my 600. I believe your right. I got the 610 and have a Glo/gps mini antenna I bought off Amazon as well as my old Gilsson. Both seem to work the same. I will be testing it soon on an all day outing. The Sat page has the prn numbers to 89 or so. From what I've read 65 to 90 is Glonass. 2 to 30 is GPS and 30 to 50ish is Waas, etc. When using the Gilsson the PRN's up to 90ish stay on and don't change. Unless I cover the external antenna with my hand then the signal drops and or stops. So the old Gilssons must be working if the Glonass shows. I'll confirm this later.
  6. I'd like to get into this new Montana with Glonass. I'm using a Montana 600 now. But I use a external antenna when I do hike. I keep the Montana in a pouch on the pack and a small antenna on top..but I don't think the Gilsson gps antennas I use will receive the Glonass. I'm looking on the web for a combo but can't find any yet..Gilsson hasn't replied to me yet. I'd like the 610 as I loose signal in the mountains with tree cover and canyons sometimes.
  7. Make sure if you haven't used the gps for a while that you have a good signal for an hour before using it. It will take up to 45 min to get all the data it needs to be on the money. The data comes in a few different levels from the satellites. Even though you have a lock on doesn't mean it's got all the data. Some data comes fast other slower. This is what I've found reading about the system since 1995. I'm interested in this new combo glonass/gps and have been reading some about it. I read some posts from the larger commercial farmers out west who use it laying crops. I can't remember but I thought they said you get better accuracy one way vs another if things are right. So be careful on how you set it up. All else fails return it to Garmin. You may have a antenna issue or weakness. Also this is why I use a external antenna for my hand helds when hiking in the woods and mountains. I wouldn't buy a hand held without external antenna jack. It will keep the gps locked on good with an amplified antenna and all data will be up to date as it wouldn't be dropping the signal at all.
  8. I like to get the 24K combo into my Garmin 276C which takes only their Data Cards. Is there a way I transfer it from the Micro SD card onto a DVD so I can load it back into the 276C? Is this possible?
  9. I can't find the info for the rebate. I have the older Topo w/sn's so I'd love to update it for a resonable price. Can you link my to the rebate offer?
  10. Please Email me at cccodfish@msn.com I'd like to trade or buy 2008 Topo. thanks
  11. Maybe I'm too expierenced. I've had gpsr's sinc 1996. 1st one was a Northstar 941XD..Still got it. Many Garmins since. Street Pilot 2610 currently for the truck. I see many differences I want in that are in that chart you linked too. But I know that already as I've researched it well like anything I've bought or done before shelling out 1 K.. I paid $1,800 for Nortstar back then and it did just basics but was state of the art for a gps then. It was what I needed on the ocean.. It's all about priority's. Money is a second factor. I want these features now not in 3 years when the price is at the bottom. It's not worth waiting that long to save $600.00 or so to me. It's what I need now. A few of these features are Speech Recognition,Hands Free Calling, Line out,Remote.10 Routes,Sort Multible Destinations,FM Transmitter,Duel Speakers,Removeable battery, car location when removed. Of course just a few are the seller to me but I'll take the rest. Cheers.
  12. I was searching for a Nuvi 880 and PcNation had one listed for $757. Gpscity,Gpsnow, etc. all listed it for $999. Whats the catch with PCNation? refurbished? Won't get the unit until Xmas? Tiger wouldn't match the price. They didn't even email me back an answer to my request of a price match as they offer. What am I missing?
  13. When following a route devised using the new beta version of Mapsource, my Vista Hcx failed to show my TOPO UK map, and denied having them, when I looked in the map setup page. All it showed was the basemap, which was not much use in the terrain I was walking. As soon as I stop navigating the contours etc. are back. As nice as it appears, I will give the beta release a miss until the full product is ready. I lost the maps in Mapsource on my Laptop.. I went back to the last version..In all the years I've been updateing Mapsource this has never happened.
  14. After I installed the Beta I lost my maps. they won't show.
  15. Check ebay.. for going prices on used stuff. If it's clean then it might be a good price. Gilsson makes good antennas. you may not need one. But if you do you can mount it on you day pack top or on your hat like some do...Nice thing about the antenna I leave it inside my Garmin Nylon case zipped up so it keeps warmer during cold days below 10deg. F snowshoeing. Or you can keep it in your pocket.
  16. I've had one since it first came out. It's a nice unit. Depends on what your paying for it but it is as good for the most part as the X. True the X get's better signal but only because it uses weak signals. Signals from Sat's that arent in a good position. So your accuracy if way off. That's the pro for the x. You won't loose the fix at all. But you will be off on the map. The 60CS will only use good signals to give a good fix. If it doesn't get them it will stop navigateing. I use a small 1/2 dollar size antenna with mine from GPS Geek on Ebay that cost's $20 and I've never lost a signal under heavy tree cover in the mountains. Never. I've climbed all the highest mountains in NH. This antenna does a good job period. I have one in my truck too as it gives better map accuracy in citys, etc then my Street Pilot useing it's own antenna threw the windshield. I use this CS on my Snowmobile and Hiking. If you get a good deal buy it. I had a new X that I resold as I didn't need signals that were weak for the extra money. I was waiting for the Colorado but I'm going to pass on that as I see lot's of issues and problems. And it doesn't do as much as the CX or X. Especiallly the highlighted track which I need for my old eyes.
  17. WAAS corrections will carry for a while if you loose the signal. It's different then the other data the gps needs to update every 2 secs. So I leave it on all the time..
  18. If it aquires satillites and obtains a 2 or 3d fix then you are alright. Just need to learn out how to read it and use it. Youhave to be navigating to have it show your bearing. Also if the compass is not calibrated and or turned off it won't do much. If you start walking with it it should show the heading your going. Try hitting menu while on the compass page and chooseing the other options as well.
  19. Can you put different colors to the line for highlighting like some other Garmin's? If not do you have a pic of the line?
  20. I have an old Data Combo Power Plug 4 post type and would like to hook it up direct to my 60cs. Does it have to be 3 volts going into the 4 prong plug in the back or can it be 12v. Someone said it should have a reducer in the wire to get it to 3 volts.
  21. Wondering if anybody knows the actual amperage needed to run 60CS with light on,WAAS,etc. needed from battery.
  22. I could have had a V8! I have one question. Does anyone know if it is true that the NT version runs slower on GPSs because it is compressed more than the non-NT version? Sorry I had 07 but I got it in Aug 06.. I edited the post to correct this..
  23. I have V8 which I recieved last August in 06. Does this udate mean V9? or is this just a doctored up version of V8..? Capt.
  24. I lost patience and put it on EBAY. I have this Garmin 60CSX I just got back from Garmin. It is either a refurbished unit or a brand new one. Can't see anywhere it was refurbished and it's like new. And the phyiscal condition looks like a brand new one it's so clean. I had sent mine in as the screen was damaged and they sent me a whole new one in a box with all the accessories like you'd buy off the shelf from the store. It was to be a present so I bought another one while this one was sent in. So I don't need it. I just got it today from Garmin and never turned it on or opened the accessories. I have pics of it to email for serious people. I have the pic of the repair slip with the info stating it they gave me another unit free. I'd like $325.00 as that's what I have into it. Only drawback is I don't know if you can register it. I don't know if the warranty can be transferred.... Nice unit for the price so jump on it. Paypal only
