  1. Hello, I just wanted to know how to filter some of the cache locations, i'm in NY so i wanted to see mainly NY stuff. I have put in my home cooards , so now i should see some change.I was just interested in flitering the caches in MY area.. when i get better i'll branch out. thanks.
  2. All, Thanks for the replies.. I will do that. In the future.. i'll be doing more Cacheing, but for the present i'll stay local and then branch out. Thanks again.
  3. Hello all, I was wondering is it possible when receiving the weekly Notifications to have the list filtered some way so that i might be able tp receive caches in my area? I'm new to this and before i go to another state i would like to explore my Local Caches first. maybe it can be filter by zip code, lat/long or maybe even by state. thanks.
  4. west marine was running a sale on the Topo software not too long ago for $80 I dont know if it will work on your unit or not, you might have to call them. I thought i'd mention it.
  5. Jup, Thanks for the input... Perhaps there are other people who share the same issues. I dont know what other GPS forums that you go on.. there is a good one that i go to.. that helped me when i wanted to pick up a nuvi. www.gpspassion.com and then there is the GARMIN site..they might have similar issues..if you have to take it back then you do... I think it might be the best for you. The "new"CO i picked up recemntly was supposed to be brand new.It clearly was'nt. I have no problems so far so i hope i'm lucky. Best of luck keep us posted.
  6. I got the CO 400 C mainly because of the water. I guess it's the same as with ANY new device. I know that he's talking about an Oregon. I was just stating thats WHY i did not get one. well i'll add one to my collection. I have not heard many good things about it... who knows.. Garmin is good at working out the bugs.. Good luck.
  7. OK then! I'm glad that wasn't the case... good deal.. I'm glad that you got it all fixed straight away. was this a CO T or a CO C?
  8. I'm just wondering.. i tried to change the time to my timezone but the time never changed.. i logged off and then on again but still it did not change. I also wanted to ask you where might i permanatly add the outbound Email notification? After each post i have to check the box. I thought at one time there was a place where i could do that, So that i did not have to set it each time. I Live in NY what is the OFFSET anyhow? thanks.
  9. Sounds like some nasty business... I bought the carrying case for my CO C... i think it's cheap insurance... but if your on a hunt i guess it would be rather tiresome.
  10. I have heard of this site.. it's supposed to have a good amount of info on it.
  11. I know there is different prices for the DVD or the CD version.. I opted for the DVD version... I'm not really sure what the diff is.. maybe the Obvious?
  12. Hello all, I'm new to this as well. I think of it just like that. you pop the COORDS into the unit and with some luck it will lead you to the buried(semi) treasure! It's like treasure hunting for adults(well not all of us) Good luck!
  13. Hey Geek, Well i finally got my CO.I like this unit very much. Although it was clearly returned to the store, I was assured that it will work- and so far it has. My Topo DVD came the same day as my garmin case. I have not had much luck getting any info to the SD card. I will try again later on.. I'm not really sure what i'm doing wrong but get it sorted out. I use Lithium batteries in it, so i think i'll be good to go. if you have any tips you can pass on to me... feel free. thanks.
  14. All, I'm going to stick with using multiple cards. they are cheap enough. The other suggestion sounded more like something that i did not not want to deal with.
  15. Hey Geek, Thanks for the reply. I believe that i will just have to use more than one card. I did not want to do this , but i think in the interest of getting this done I 'll just have to so it this way. I was actually thinking of doing it your way earlier. I have 2 cards now , so i might be able to break up the country in half. I wont mention when i go back to europe.. thats another thread! thanks for the help.
  16. I use a Colorado 300 with an "EP Memory 150x" 4GB SD card (non SDHC). It seems to work well. As others have told you, there are limits to how much of the maps you can load from the Topo 2008 DVD. The entire US (including Alaska & Hawaii) is over 4GB and has more than 6600 segments. The Colorado 300 (and others) seems to have two limits for maps. The first limit is GB due to the file size limits on a FAT16 formatted SD card. The second limit is in the Colorado firmware which seems to not use more than somewhere around 5000 map segments in a single map file. You have a couple options. Depending upon where you live/plan on using your GPSr the most, you can make 2 map files on separate SD cards, one for East one for West, or North and South, or how ever seems to best fit your usage. When you travel into the other area, just turn your GPSr off and swap the SD cards. This option is not so good for me as I live in the mid-west so I would be swapping cards quite a bit if I did this. A second option you have is to find the thread in the forums here for loading all the Topo 2008 on an Oregon 300. It has information about combining segments and other ways to reduce the file sizes and that might work for you.
  17. G O , Thanks for the reply. What Unit are you using the 400 T or C? You use an 8 GB card and STILL can't get all of the info on one card? wow! I think the CD version of the software does hold different in than the DVD version Thanks for the link I'll look for some more information.
  18. Niripas, Thanks for the reply. I was told that the 400 T is a touch different than the C in this respect. I wish it was the same. I'm glad that you are having success.I had to exchange the same card that i think you are using because of this fact. Garmin reccomends the San disk 2GB PLAIN VANILLA CARD so while i await the delivery of my new unit.. i thought id pick up some of the Goodies i'm going to need ahead of time- namely the cards and topo software.
  19. Hello all, I was just wondering. I will be using my 400C for Caching as well as on the water.(thats why i have the C instead of the T. I wanted to know if anyone else has the same setup. I will be using the TOPO Software, but in order to get the entire country Loaded i would have to use 2 memory Cards, and accorging to garmin they cant be High speed , High capacity, or anything special. If i understand Garmin right I will have to use 2 2 GB cards one for one half of the country and so on... Is there anyone else doing this? and if so what cards are you using? and did it work? Thanks.
  20. Hello, Thanks for the Offer... I primarilly use GPS on the water.. and need the Navigation for the marine use. I dont know if i could use a "T" model for the water... or for that matter vice versa. I'll look into this.. and let you know. Thanks for the Offer.
  21. btw... I am new to Geocaching.. I have a nuvi in the car.I dont normally use the nuvi for caching, I wanted to ask.. i like the Colorado very much(i like it better than the new oregon) I just Sold my 76CSX that i used to use on the water(i have a jetski) Would the Colorado be a suitable replacement?I would like to use the Colorado for caching and on the water..I realize that this is not the proper forum to ask about the water, So i'm here to ask about the caching part.. thanks.
  22. walmart sells Colorados? I knew they sold a lot of thing , but i never thought that they would start selling GPS'S!
