  1. I think you misunderstand Guinness' business model. They'll certify pretty much anything for a fee nowadays.
  2. Within 5-6 km, not exactly saturated. There are a couple of PMO caches I've found which don't show up on my map as a Basic member.
  3. WTF?! Even if such a restriction on trade is somehow legal (in fact, even more so if it's legal), why would I actually choose to live in a world where this happens?
  4. My very first find was a PMO cache. I saw one close to home on the map, which disappeared when I zoomed in, but I thought... well, if it's hidden along that stretch of road, and is protected enough not to get stolen or picked up as rubbish, I have a pretty good idea where it must be. And it was. The "where would I hide it?" principle has served me well ever since.
  5. I recently got to a relatively remote GZ at least a day before anyone else but didn't find the cache, so I claimed "First To Fail".
  6. Idea: treat hidden final locations separately. So puzzle finals still can't be within 161m of each other; traditionals still can't be within 161m of each other; but puzzle finals wouldn't affect traditionals, and vice versa.
  7. This one is GC3D92P "000000 - Nowt To It" and its latest note from this morning reads:
  8. Thanks, done! I just realised it's a multi, not a mystery, but I think the same applies.
  9. I have a cache location in mind which I would need to get specific permission and co-operation for, and for which I would want to create a site-specific container. But there's a mystery cache nearby and while its visible coordinates don't conflict with my prospective location, it seems quite possible that the final coordinates would. So if the location you choose for a cache happens to conflict with an existing mystery cache, how/when do you find that out?
  10. I reckon this is approximately the area of the fire...
  11. It's not specific to geocaching, it just means "Never mind". The person who posted that had previously posted a DNF that said "Didn’t find, looked for 10 minutes", then posted a Found It log with "Nvm found it".
  12. Sure, just go to the trackable's page, click on the "Found it? Log it!" link in the "Trackable Options" menu at the right, and choose "Grab it from somewhere else".
  13. Mea culpa on this one, though it was actually an area I know well. I always go geocaching on a bicycle, in fact I get around on a bicycle most of the time. I placed a cache which I considered very easy terrain because although it's out in the country, it's pretty much right by the side of the road, I even called it a cache 'n' dash. Then the people who go round in cars, started commenting that there was no parking and they couldn't stop because it's a narrow road and they were holding up other traffic. So I worked out where the nearest halfway decent parking is, and it's gone from a simple roadside cache 'n' dash to a 2.5km hike and from T1.5 to T2.5.
  14. Cool, sounds like I'm doing it right then! It was just the guidelines' focus on hiking distance that threw me. Thanks all!
  15. When I place a cache and have to provide difficulty and terrain ratings, I notice that the suggested scale for terrain is all about the hike to GZ. None of my caches have a long hike involved and on that criterion none of them would rise above a 1.5, but several have tricky terrain around GZ itself. I don't consider most of them to be intellectually challenging; a couple of the caches are essentially in plain sight, they're just physically hard to get to, so the challenge lies purely in the terrain; not in the form of a mile-long hike or anything (usually you can park right next to GZ), but maybe just the last thirty feet. Scrambling, climbing, wading, negotiating prickly plants, all that sort of thing. As these are really physical rather than mental challenges, I have been treating them as part of the "terrain" score rather than "difficulty". But now I'm wondering... is that the done thing?

    hello

Hello Joe! Good luck with your next five... and beyond!
  17. I'll pass on that. I get enough scratches just on my hands from geocaching, I really don't think the full monty is a good idea.
  18. Welcome woodswandering! I hope you have fun!
  19. If you click on the link kunarion provided, on the cache page there's a link to the owner's profile, which will give you a couple of different ways of getting in touch with them. Alternatively, the cache page tells you everything you need to know to find the cache yourself, though if the logbook is missing, the whole thing might be missing too, so probably better to get in touch with the owner.
