  4. I am looking for a GPSr that has road maps, preferably something that works like or with map quest. problem is, I'm on a sevearly limmited budget so I'm looking for the best available for the least amount of money. I'm open to sugestions and tips, thanks TAZ
  5. test....is my mug shot showing?? TAZ
  6. since I'm kinda new, I'm asking I've hidden a cache' thats about 6" long and 3.5 round. is that still a micro? ordo they have to be about the size of film canisters (most I've found are film or M&M mini's containers)?TAZ
  7. The data cable uses the same connection. interesting? I've never heard of that before?? data can be sent through the power port recepters?? any Idea how that works? Ummmmm.... on second tought the explaination would probably go over my head. are you sure that they both are 1 in the same port?TAZ hmmm, introduction page 7 of the owners manual external power and data connector, tipical guy thing when all else fails read the owners manual LOL . still boggles my mind (but most TECH dose). guess I will be checking into a PC cable so I dont have to print off or wright down every thing any more.thanks for the help.TAZ

  9. that flap covers the power port on my yellow. it has 4 gold contact discs. theres no other flaps ou rubber plugs that I can find that could hide a data port. mine it the 99 dollar, 12 channel, garmin e-trex and it is yellow. maybe through your guy's attempt to help, your confusing it with another model?or may be I am confusing the fact that mine is yellow to a model name "yellow"? I R confuzzed?? TAZ barrowed this power cord pic from linked site above:
  10. heres my report on my garmin E-trex yellow saturday night learned how to enter way point locations. I entered 11 for today(sunday) of the 11 I found 10. the one I could not find was in a wooded location with lots and lots of Ivy. it was found on saturday so it has to be there,I probably practicaly stepped on it over 12 times.but, still it alluded me. I'll try again on that one next weekend if some one else finds it during the week. yes, I think I'll keep the little yellow E-trex. its much more fun when your GPSr works and you actually find stuff LOL. TAZ
  11. wheres the data port for the cable??I've found the power port. but, cant seem to find a data port. my manual dont mention one either.am I missing some thing? . thanks TAZ
  12. the yellow dont have the option of a PC cable, manual input wont be that much hastle though. it will be fun to build the anticipation of the hunt
  13. LOL,I'm the type that likes to learn the hard way ,trial and error some times works out better than sound advice. I had hi hopes for the cobra, my sister was impressed as well with its claims. as itclaimed to have features that her garmin e-trex didn't. we found out its promises are deciving because, even with its 18 different channels and A.S.A.P. scanning technology,it did not have a strong enough reciver to utillize it. thus proving newer is not always better the yellow is what I bought and wow what a difference, It recieves in heavy, black, rainy weather even inside my jacket in my car. man I'm loving this.I'm going out searching tomarrow expect pictures of where I go. and another report. mother goose is going to help me with the use of her printer.and some tips of use. cant wait. TAZ
  14. well as promised, heres my report on the cobra GPS100. . I tried it out on saturday.it was heavily over cast and I could not get more than 2 satalites to lock on. after an hour I stopped trying. sunday had the same conditions so I did not try. monday was sunshine and clear blue skys, so I tried again . this time I got 3 sattalites but not a steady signal.every 10 min or so I'de loose one or more then pick up different ones. this was frustrating, but it seemed to work. untill I got in my car. I lost contact and could not recieve signal, even when it was in the dash. to make a long story shorter. in my openion, the cobra gps100 talks a big game, but cant deliver on the promises. I returned it and bought a garmin E-trex. the difference is night and day I'm a happy camper.TAZ
  15. I bought some monster cell rechargables for mine because I like how they last in my digital camera.I have not tried them out yet on my cobra though.they came with a charger for 30 bucks. hope this helpedTAZ
  16. I just bought that model on sunday and like you I am new to the game. having just bought it I have not had a chance to use it yet. what do and dont you like yours? thanks.TAZ
  17. the answere to your Q: is, it dose not have a ISB port for data transfer.its cobra's entry model. but it has a power jack its stated perramiter is water resistant and water proof for up to 30 min in 1 meter of water. I guess they mean its water proof under normal use. geo-caching using only map and compass?? now thats die hard old school.I hope it dont come to that for meLOL TAZ
  18. Ok...now I'm confused. (Not unusual) Does the battery cover screw on or does it have a quick-release like the Legend? sorry I'll explain my sisters Etrex has the quarter turnquick release with a D-loop my cobra has a screw with a D-loop. I hope this makes more sense TAZ
  19. Where'd you get that? The eTrex line can store between 500 and 1,000 waypoints depending on the model. And I don't see why a screw on battery cover would be a selling point. Makes changing batteries more of an effort and to me would be a negative. I appreciate the eTrex's quick release cover when in the outdoors, particularly when it's really cold and I'm wearing gloves. Between the negative things I've heard about the Cobra 100 and my positive experience with the eTrex line, I'd go with the eTrex even if it cost more than the Cobra. For the same price, the eTrex is a no brainer. Team DaSH has already brought the waypoint issue to my attention, but thanks for confirming the correctness of his info. as to why I used the non quick release as "a selling point", my sister had the back come off her Etrex because the loop for the kwick release caught on something and she almost lost it.I realise that was a fluke and may never happen again but I like the added security of a screw on back. it still has the D-loop for easy removal. I also like that it has 18parrellel channels and used a.s.a.p. technology. this is my first GPSr and I'm new to this arrena so I will make some mistakes along the way.this is also a learning experience for me.thats why I asked if any one here had first hand experience with the cobra models.thanks again.TAZ
  20. no my cobra is water proofed and has a screw on rubberized battery cover that was a selling point to me. the E-trex only had a 1/4 turn quick release ruberized cover. e-trex also only could store 50 way points which is just 1/10 of the gps100 by cobra. Features Layouts/Waypoints: 500 altimeter: Yes Water-Resistant: Yes clock: yes temp range:-15Cto 70C Display Display: standard Resolution: 128 x 64 Pixels performance:/acquisition time warm: 10sec cold: 35 sec automatic locate:50 sec up date rate1/sec accuracy position: 10ft velocity:.1knot dynamics: 6g's antenna: built in patch waas enabled:yes power sorce:2 double A batteries battery life: approx 22 hrs TAZ WHOA! You got a color display GPSr with a barometric altimeter and detachable antenna for 100 bucks? I'm thinking some of those specs are incorrect. Here is the GPS 100 page on the cobra website. It has a built in patch antenna, an altimeter, (it does not say if it is barometric), and definately no color display. That is not to say it's a bad unit, but it is basically pretty comparable to an etrex. The etrex also stores 500 waypoints, not 50. Here is the etrex page on the garmin website. Just wanted to make sure you have the correct info! I coppied that list of a web site, after comparing it to the box it came in this morning I revised it. thanks for bringing my error to my attention. I must have miss read the box for the way points on the E-trex thank you for the correct info on that as well. they say ignorence is bliss. but, I find it frustrating and embarissing LOL. thats why I try to learn as much as I can every day.TAZ
  21. thanks, hmmm, I see the magellan in the same price range did worse but it only has been rated by one consumer. http://www.epinions.com/pr-Magellan_GPS_31...isplay_~reviews for side by side comparisons now.

  24. That never changes. It's always on the other side of the canal, creek, river, road, or cliff. or in a poison oak patch last time I went out with mother goose and paw pal we found 3 cache's surrounded by it. LOL the itch was worth the trip TAZ
