  1. Now I have to go through and delete all "his" logs on my caches!
  2. I don't know of any store that carries either brand but any print shop can order it for you. Our local outdoors store carries Rite in the Rain notepads. I think they sell for $5-$7 depending on size.
  3. No, there is not. Internal memory only. Here is my unit: eTrex Venture HC.
  4. I have a Garmin Etrex Venture HC and have had no trouble up until today. When I plug it into my computer's USB port via the USB cable, the GPS unit shows the "plugged in" icon and can run without batteries. But when I try to transfer data between the unit and Mapsource, the unit is not recognized as being plugged into the computer. I went to the interface settings in the GPS's setup menu, and it says "Not Connected." Occasionally, it will say "connected," and instead of saying there is no GPS found, Mapsource will say "A GPS unit was found, but does not have the proper capabilities" or something to that effect. It suggests "Setting the unit's interface to 'Garmin' or 'Host.'" From what I can tell, and from reading the "interface" section in the Etrex manual, there is only one interface option for this unit: "Garmin." My brother has an identical unit, and his is recognized normally. I have tried two different computers, two different cables, different USB ports, a hard reset (holding the four buttons) of the unit, batteries in and batteries out. I tried to update the firmware of the unit with Garmin's Updater.exe, but that gave the same message about interface settings. I am thoroughly confused, and beginning to get frustrated. The GPS is not nearly as useful if it cannot communicate with a computer! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. No way!! I have a 9 foot long string of those exact beads and have been leaving them all over the place- micros and any other size. I really enjoy those little things. I am also big on the old foreign coin thing. There is a guy at the local flea market who has tons of them. I just pick through the 25 cents per coin bin and find ones I think are cool.
  6. I have a Venture HC that does not have the electronic compass. My first time out caching with it I had a bit of a hard time, as I had to walk straight in one direction in order for the GPSr to know which way I was headed. I now bring a regular compass with me a** well as the GPSr and I have no problems at all. The GPSr tells me which way the cache is relative to my position, and I use the compass to decide which way to go. The compass is super light, small, slim, and does not need batteries. I just keep it in my pocket until I get within about 100ft of a cache. Simple and easy, and the GPSr was a great price. As an added bonus, while caching with my brother (of the RandomCitrus crew) we take turns using either the GPSr or the compass. Makes for more of a team-effort.
  7. I was searching the internet for a GPSr for mountain biking, hiking, and dual sport motorcycling, and came across a link to geocaching.com. Bookmarked it because it sounded interesting, then got a GPSr for my birthday three weeks ago and have been having an awesome time!
