  1. I would give anything to be able to live and geocache in New Zealand. NZ has about every single thing that I want in a perfect world. Man, I can't way until I can come back again. I'll be geocaching all day long, who would be inside when you have the most beautiful landscape on earth to go caching on. Gah someone come pick me up and take me back....please!
  2. I don't get how they work. I heard they're "reversed". Now how does THAT work out?
  3. On our way I saw a ziploc bag on the ground, and thought that was it. It wasn't, but it turns out the cache was 1 foot above it hidden in some tree roots.
  4. Yeah I love that park, plus they hold a lot of animal-charity events. And I LOVE animals. We actually walked down to the beach today, I'm surprised there were so many dogs there in the winter...
  5. Placed it in Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, Maryland. Waiting for approval now, anyone in that area keep checking the page for it!
  6. Thanks for all the help, I'm going for the 60c. It does have a magnetic compass, right? Right?!
  7. Hmmm...well, just got back from another quick hunt. I'm kinda worried because, we found the cache but when I held the etrex up where the cache was it said I had 253 feet to go east. I don't call that "accurate" . I just want something accurate (at least down to a small radius), a compass that works well (with an arrow that points where you need to go, like on the normal etrex), and a basemap that lists the things like rivers and possibly trails for my kayaking. IS THIS SO MUCH TO ASK FOR?!?! Bah!
  8. I had 2 feet once but wasn't geocaching...as a matter of fact, I was INSIDE. I was next to a window though but still...
  9. I'll definately be at the event if it happens. Thanks for the info!
  10. Thanks for the help, but does it seem like the 60c will be a lot better (as far as using it in geocaching)? Because if it is I'll probably go for that... The reason I want it for kayaking is because once we got lost on the river and ended up finally getting back at around 2 am. But if the 60c will have the maps and stuff then I'm going for that. I may keep the etrex, but I'm not so sure I'll be able to afford another one without getting the money from it. Plus today it gave us some trouble in the woods (compass thing just totally locked up, wouldn't change direction no matter what we did, unless the coordinates were off. It did basically the same thing yesterday).
  11. I have a plain yellow etrex now, just got it for Christmas and I really like it. However, even though I just got it 8 days ago I'm already wanting to upgrade... Even though it probably won't be anytime soon, do you all think I should get a Legend or Vista next? Or anything else I guess but keep it in the low $300's or lower, please. I'm going to sell this one first most likely, but still that'll only get me $100 at most by the time I want to buy. Thanks for any help. Oh and keep in mind one main use I'm planning to use this for is for when I go kayaking. Would it show those rivers too? Or just major rivers?
  12. O_O After reading some of the stories there I'm taking this thing with me wherever I go, 'cept underwater because that's murder. But seriously, now I REALLY want a Vista instead of this plain etrex, because I really always wanted an actual GPS with the maps and routes already built in...I think you know what I mean. I do a lot of trips that go to like, all over the world and this etrex really wouldn't help me if I was lost unless I had already set the waypoints, which of course I know I'd forget to do. So great, I just got this one Christmas and now I want a $300 one...this will never work out...
  13. To the first couple posters: That's actually what a lot of boat GPS's look like today. As far as I'm concerned, as long as it lets you enter coordinates and leads you to them, USE IT!
  14. I too had my first find today. Very good feeling It's too bad for me though, I'm not old enough to drive yet and my mom has a 7am-4:30pm job....doesn't work too well for me. Dad is off for the week I think but my mom wants to partake in this too and I'd feel bad going without her...
  15. I was still 453 feet away when it turned direction, and since its a VERY heavy wooded area where you pretty much HAVE to follow the paths, I don't think it would have been too easy...
  16. Do you just enter them as the name of the waypoint and it automatically becomes the true waypoint or what? I don't get it....
  17. Thanks, I'll probably ask for it as a birthday gift...but which maps should I use and what's the difference?
  18. And I mean a fairly detailed map too, not just plain names like "camp", but like the name of the camp and all.
  19. I mean, my plain old yellow etrex is fine for now, but is the Vista like an actual GPS? You know, like with a map and all that shows the trails and roads and things? That would make this a lot less frustrating in the woods and stuff...
  20. I mean can you imagine, about 50 or so caches, all set across a beautiful, fresh national park? Glacier National Park in Montana would be perfect for this. Just have the rangers place the caches in different parts of the park, and whoever finds them all first wins like, a bunch of geocaching equipment like a top-model GPS or something. Smaller prizes could always be cables, software, a Trackerbug, etc. I think this would be a great idea but I have no idea how anyone could get the funding. I'd definately participate though so please post your ideas
  21. Meh. Keep in mind I had a HORRIBLE sinus headache starting up, and that makes geocaching a little frustrating...
  22. Well I'm not talking about bouncing around, we'd just get to a certain area and the cache would suddenly be in the direction we just came. Sometimes it would go immediately right, suddenly left, it was strange. Either way, we may go back to it sometime, but it really was getting annoying. Plus I just read on its page that it was stolen so it doesn't look like we'll be finding it any time soon Thanks for the help though, I'm going to see if there's any more within walking distance around here before it gets too late...
