  1. Welllll Fearless' snoring makes me creative.... Esp at 3am...when the rest of the house is quiet.. Besides I have all this extra time since I enlisted 2 great cachers to get the Canadian quilt organized..... I put borders on the two quilts that are posted there....Not bragging or anything....but man they look great! One has a "leaf" border and reminds me of how knowledgable 300mag is about plants and the other .... has a "bit o the sparkel" which reminds me of your smile (which by the way is better with age...I did a major punk rock period myself except I had spikey hair). 3. So I see that this post is still active....... I honestly never thought we would be targeted by ticks and a few months ago didn't think that spray was nesessary......but after getting a "sticker" I feel differently. I don't enter the bush without spray and tell the group that they can all get "stickers" too.....they reluctantly stand still while we spray them..... On a side note. the tick attached itself to me for less than 24 hours so I was told not to worry. Well last week after doing 2 straight hours of paperwork...my hand started to hurt then began to swell.........so I started to wonder if it was tick related.....Had the blood test done but it will be another week until I know....Doc is sure it isn't tick related.....but better to know Hey Haek eye your "eye" is working again. hadn't noticed it starring at me for some while......was animation turned off or were you just focusing? 5. Hey. So after much consideration I have decided to do the mailing myself for this quilt. I had thought of getting a group of cachers together, sending them 50 blocks and assigning them a region to seek cachers for placements.....This is working really well in Canada...but I miss all the excellent e-mails and now I'm "bee-beep" fast (road runner cable modem). So please send me your snail mail (address) and also the number of blocks that you would like to place. I will keep a running count and keep sending them out until all 324 are out there.... To date I have heard from, Team Geodat, Mtn-man, Tteepee, clatmandu, glynn fam, BrownMule & Jackrabbit, Argyle and Texas-Jacksons. I will privately e-mail these people so they can get their blocks now..... Blocks will arrive in the mail in padded envelopes similar to the last one I did. This time I will ask that you place a fabric/permanent marker with the blocks (I paid for most of them last time and having you do it keeps my cost down). You can get these at a fabric or art shop for around $2..fine to medium point...black only I think but this quilt has a lot of colors....so I'm flexible to other colors. Anybody out there able to make a map up like the one on the Canadian geoquilt? This way we could post where the caches are and how many blocks are in each......Texas-Jacksons can you do this? Last time I mailed 10-11 blocks to each...this time the limit will be 15-20 and less if you think that will work better...... I will also post on the regions for any interest.. 7. Hey! So I cut over 500 triangles. Pieced and sewed enough of them to give you an idea of how the center of this quilt will look.... I must say that i like abstract art and this one really appeals to me.....The design is from an Australian quilt book that i have. You pick two colors and anything goes.....The cachers would be instructed to sign in the yellow sections........ If this is too "crazy" as fearless rated it (I love that guy but he is ever so conservative) I can use softer yellows and bolder blues......and recut and sew everything.....I would give this one out to someone else. I am attempting to set up a web page so that I can post my own pictures but for now I have to rely on the generosity of other cachers to do this for me. My sister will give it a try.......Should be pictures belwo here soon I'll be posting more details of this project soon.... 9. Ok off Topic but related to the last comment... I was working with a preschooler the other day (I'm a speech pathologist) and he puts his finger up his nose and starts aiming at me.... And his Mom was laughing....... Man I gotta get outta here andon the Trails! Dx "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
  10. Hey, Now some cachers use "GPS" fritzing to make the cache more difficult.... Not that we would...but did place a cache on the side of a hill...many cachers have reported "abnormal readings" and then when they find it they all seem to smile (all be it a few have had mud in their teeth while they smiled) So yeah a compass is a great backup and response to devious cachers.... Dx "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
  11. I say keep the count...... I do use it as a reference to see if the cacher who placed the cache that I'm looking for is a "hider" or a "seeker". And gives me some indication as to how serious they are about this sport. I do get a bit curious with cachers that have over 500 finds......But on the plus side on our Easter Vacation I found one that said cacher had placed....and it was very well done....... On the "couldn't find it" side. I must honestly say that I haven't logged one on this site...I just can't do it!! To date we have had 2 not initially found exps. The first one was a cache that was on another site. I logged a no find there and the cacher e-mailed me back. I encouraged her to list the cache here...which she did and I was the first geocaching.com finder (but I did report that I was not the first to sign the log BTW..the reason I couldn't find it the first time was that I put the wrong coordinates in....) The second not first find was 2 weekends ago. A multi...we got the wrong dates from a cemetary. I logged as nonfind on the other site...went back this weekend and found it right off. Logged it here and said that i couldn't find it the first time but did the second....... It's just that it's sssoooooooo hard to hit that can't find button....ok I'll work on it..I know that it ups my honesty count Dx "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
  12. Yeah......I found a benchmark......well I got as close as I could to a benchmark inside a 150 foot stack. It's at the Ford Gum Plant here in Akron NY. Must say that it smelled great the day I was there......They were making spearmint gum. Mostly the gum factory adds to the overall air quality here. But at times it is in competition with the dog bone factory.....not a good smell DX "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
  13. Hey the Map looks great!! Fearless and I spent the past few days figuring out where our summer vacation will be. We had decided a while ago to visit the area we lived in right after we were married...Toledo, OH. But where else. Well decided to go from Akron, NY to London then over to Detroit, cleveland and home. Any caches with quilt squares in them near London? Just thought it would be neat to sign one on the trails!! Dx "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
  14. Hey Cliffy, 100....cool!! We're around 85 but hoping to "go over the edge" on summer vacation. Planning a circle...up threw London, Detroit, Toldeo, Cleveland and then back home. What kinda beer did you have to toast the milestone....Corona was great when we were in Mexico and Guiness was the Best in Ireland........ What's the best in Canada after # 100? Dx "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
  15. I believe that this new game will add acssesibility to an entire new population..... People with restricted mobility will now have an endless erray of sites that they can visit... Perhaps Benchmark hunting could be presented this way!! My daughter is in a class for mentally retarted teenagers....they all love using a camera.... I might just hae them do a field trip to a benchmark near her class....Now that would be a cool log...and she could use the GPS to get them there!! Dx "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)

  17. My parents were always taking us on road trips. My Dad got furious if he noticed spit balls hitting trucks (of course I never did that hated potty stops and had the "drive till you drop" philosophy of travel. We got into wicked fights in the car......My Mom used to find sticks by the side of the road and line us up in front of the car....never could do that now....instead I give extra house chores...dusting, vacuuming and picking up sticks in the back yard. 19. Must say that all the cachers I've met on the trails were great!! Placeing my general location on the bottom of my post just doesn't seems to and to create any personal anxiety...... But heading out and haveing a guy on the trail say "Aren't you Dx & Family?".....whoa! (Happened last weekend) Or going to Ottawa to start off the Canadian Geoquilt and meeting cachers who said "YOu sound much older than you look" (I posted a fairly decent px of myself on my profile right after that one...not all quilter/cachers are grandmas). and then there was the time when I received back a packet of signature squares from the first geoquilt....my address also had my coordinates on it...not that felt wierder that my address...which also would bring you to my front door step.... So hey, knowing that I'm from a small town that you could sneeze through is ok with me...... 21. Hey! What an assortment of foods.... Beef jerky...my kids love it...I go in for 2 extra salt packets on fries... Cliff bars and Power bars....I eat the slim fast kind. Chocloate nut or peanut butter. The brownie kind is really nasty. But an espresso bar seems very nice!! Cliff bars and long 25 mile hikes reminds me of the Tolkien tales and what they had on their travels...elves food....and flasks of "warmer uppers". Hey no flasks mentioned I love hard boiled eggs but haven't taken any on the trails.....Ya know that would help mask some of the nasty smells while on the trails. I'm never quilte sure if those are from a clan member or the surrounding area Like the dried trail mix....Hey we should start a geocaching cook book!! Starburst plus insulin reaction = fun. What a most interesting outlook!! Beannie Weannies....wouldn't that be messy in a pack? Hey another oder masker I mean maker LOL Beer and Elk jerky...The caching event I'm going to June 1 has already posted what peole are bringing. One guy is bringing vennison. He says he can't promise that all the glass and small car parts will be out but he'll try...His goes by the name of RoadKill.... Spam...I heard that that is a delicacy in Hawaii. Ice Cream.....You must go on really short hikes...or is it the dehydrated kind? Avanti cigar....I just finished a quilt for the cache event....the backing is a print of old cigar labels! Really! And Avanti is one of them! Drinking a gallon of water...My husband had a major kidney attack last year. I'de never seen him in such pain. And in the midst of it all the Doc says...."This could have been prevented by just drinking enough water"...adds to the off trail excursions but is way better than gut wrenching pain..... Glad ware lids....Any particular seasoning that you use. I have noticed several on the trails that have been nibbled on! With all this posting I'm planning on making a picnic for lunch today with everyones favorites...meatball subs, slaw, new extra flavor rice cakes, oranges, assortment of beverages in cool bottles and something with heavy duty coffee in it for me! Happy trails! DxChallenged "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888) [This message was edited by DxChallenged on May 18, 2002 at 07:25 AM.]

  23. Hey! So it's right around dinner time and I thought I would post while I'm hungry...... Ever so glad that there is a mix of nutritious snacks as well as "calorie busters". Did I mention that when we left our hotel in Ottawa to come home we met a guy in the evlevator with a huge pack.....You could have fit my 11 year old inside and still had room. Anyway, I just had to ask this guy what was inside. Come to find out (and yes this is related to snacks) he is from Moscow. He was sent by his wife to do grocery shopping and the number 1 item she had to have was licorice!! On a caching vein... maybe someone could make up cacher baskets. energy foods for a pick me up and chocolate when you just can't find the cache..... Dx....pizzas on the way. I hate to cook but love to sew "Have you no news on your travels?" the Book of fairy & folk tales of Ireland (1888)
