  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3284145827&rd=1
  2. Send it to me instead of chucking it in the dumpster!! I'll pay shipping.
  3. I suddenly can't download any more photos or topos in USAPhotomaps. Is there a limit on the amount it can handle? Yesterday morning, I was getting some images and it stopped. Then all day yesterday, and today, I haven't been able to get it to download any more images. It goes into download mode, but never actually gets any images. Anyone know what my problem is? Can someone with USAPhotomaps try it for me and let me know if you can get new images?
  4. Go to your local municipal airport. They will be able to tell you not only the elevation, but also the current barometer setting.
  5. I found one like that yesterday. After trying to find it by description, I decided to look close to the coordinates. It was on the WEST side of the road, not the East as described!
  6. Are you sure it's not near Vegas? Next you'll be telling me that it snows in Arizona!
  7. I almost shot soda out my nose reading that cop story! I think I'll stick to handshakes.... Criminal, are you a cop, or just imaginative?
  8. You have to be the one who started the thread, then at the very bottom, on the left, is a dropdown box that says "moderation options". Click it and select "Close this topic" and click "Go". Thread closed. You may want to post a reply saying that you are closing the thread before you do that though, just so people know...
  9. Don't forget that all those screens are customizeable. For instance, if you don't like the "speed" field in the compass screen, you can change it to an EPE (estimated error) field, which is how I have mine, so when the GPS says the distance is 0 to the cache, I can easily see how far off the GPS might be. None of my screens look like those (anymore).
  10. I agree with SBPhishy. You should be able to get it for a lot less than $200 though.
  11. I have contemplated introducing geocaching to my boy scouts. They are Varsity scouts (14 and 15 yrs old). I don't know if a 14 or 15 year old boy would be a good thing for geocaching... They probably would be fine with it, for the most part, but who knows? Some are resposible, some are complete knotheads. I've about decided to just set a dozen or so 'private' geocaches for them and let them find them. It will do the same thing, but without the risk of one of the knotheads ruining someone else's cache. That's what I would recommend. I wouldn't call it geocaching either. Then, if one (or more) of them are genuinely interested in it, then you could introduce it as geocaching and point them to the website. If they have an interest, they would be more likely to be a positive element in geocaching. The ones that aren't interested will just think it's different type of orienteering game.
  12. Man, I find that is the case in anything! Yeah, I'm no expert, but my understanding is that adjusted coordinates are sub-inches accurate. I knew that scaled could be pretty far off. I'm not sure where I got the idea of adjusted coordinates being accurate. Am I wrong?
  13. I haven't noticed this with my MeriPlat either. Maybe the meridians are better? or maybe they have adjusted something in the firmware (I'm using 5.12).
  14. It was probably coordinates for NAD27, which is different thatn NAD83 (WGS83). I made the same mistake and ended up 1/2 mile from where I was headed. The ones you find on the geocaching website are in WGS83 format. If they are adjusted, use them. If you use the originals, you will probably be way off (like your telephone pole incident). Scaled coordinates can be off, and usually are. Adjusted coordinates will be more accurate than your GPS
  15. OK, that's funny... I was typing up the post before I saw Co Papa's post... and we both used an example of coordinates being off by miles! The one I'm going to go hunt is this one: ER0240. The coordinates (and map pictuere) put it in Springerville, the description is from Rutrioso, which is actually Nutrioso (did scooby-doo type this one up?).
  16. I look for two types of benchmarks, "not founds", and ones that haven't been found in at least 34 years (1970 and prior). More fun that way. I will sometimes look for ones that don't fit those categores, for instance, there is one that has the scaled coordinates approximately 15 miles north of where the description puts it. I'm going to hunt that one just to get real coordinates for it.
  17. I haven't placed a cache yet, and therefore haven't needed their help yet. However, the approvers do a service for geocaching, and they do it for free. They deserve every geocachers grattitude whether or not they approve them in an hour!
  18. Last week, looking for some NGS benchmarks, I found about 20 AZHD (Arizona Highway Department) benchmarks from the 1920s and 1930s. Not a one listed in the database. Oh well, I got to use my 4-wheel drive to drive up the old 'highway' they were on. It's fun what a lack of maintenance will do to a paved road, even though there was no pavement left! BTW, AZHD is now AZDOT.
  19. You can gripe all you want, complain all you want, start as many threads as you want, I'm still going to only log my DNFs and ones that I like. You will not dictate how I conduct my hobby.
  20. Black widow = you get sick for several days. Brown Recluse = flesh deterioration. Do the spider bite stories have to be Geocaching related? I woke up one morning with a fat upper-lip. I thought my wife had smacked me in the middle of the night, until I looked real close in a mirror and saw two holes oozing yellow fluid. You probably already heard about it from the 'other' board. Compared to bears, I'd rather put a black widow in my hat than even get close to a bear. I use to be arachniphobic, but part of my job requires me to crawl in attics and under floors, so I just had to get used to it.
  21. The best thing about the "no alcohol" rule is that Mike Teague, the owner of cache #2 and cache #3 put beer in both the #2 and the #3 geocache. Not that I'm saying that beer is a good idea.
  22. "anti-caption" might be a little strong. I don't mind putting the PID in the caption. It's a good idea. I've started putting the PID in my filenames anyway. One problem though... Not all benchmark hunters are on the forum.
  23. While I agree with bons, I would probably follow an accepted convention, if it were a suggestion. I think trying to dictate how a person does a hobby is a little too control-freakish (no offense intended Co Papa). If it were a requirement, I probably wouldn't upload pictures, unless they were direct to the NGS.
  24. Good thing I recently resurrected my Metro. Makes it easier to find BMs when you're getting 50mpg!
