Quad Caching (ATVs/UTVs/dirt bikes)
Klondike Mike replied to IdahoRenegade's topic in General geocaching topics
Try doing a search based on attributes and choose the atv icon. Many people around here are good at using the correct ones for their hides so I end up with pretty good results. Based on what I see most are rated in terms of hiking to them. We mostly like the ride in the mountains or foothills, of Alberta, although I have ridden and have many hides spread over a variety of quad trails. We have two 500 2 up machines, a 300 and a 200, all polaris -
Would this be classified as "Burying" a geocache?
Klondike Mike replied to cstgeorge's topic in General geocaching topics
I've seen that done once. Cache owner admitted that that is how the depression was made. I guess he had the same logic -
Three guys from Oregon 695 caches in 24 hours.

I think a flat piece of plexiglass or plastic with a rite in the rain sheet pasted on one side would be much faster. Those who like to sign their name can write on the paper while the others slap their stickers on the back side. Saves alot of time for everyone -

Posting identical comments in threads isn't boring to you? Maybe when he got up to around 500 it would -
Well, as a score, yes it's meaningless...but as a history of what I've found, it's great. Kind of like the lines on the door frame of my Mom's house. Do any of those lines include you standing on a 2X4 to boost your numbers, jus sayin

Agreed. I suspect, (sans any evidence), that those 5 cachers were not on hand for all 600+ placements. My guess is, different members were given different stretches of road to cover. Then they logged "Found It" on the whole shebang. Just my guess though. Maybe they all signed the logs before they started for the day? Perhpas. but then doesn't that play into CR's suspicions?

An example of why a find count has become meaningless, IMO

Micro Proliferation and Log Verbosity
Klondike Mike replied to TheAlabamaRambler's topic in General geocaching topics
Yes, my logs have gotten shorter -
The cache was GC24T61. There ia a CARW caching event going on here right nowCARW 2010 Edmonton Event. The spring melt has come eary this year. Any trail in the shade is glare ice. Anything in the sun has pretty much melted. I don't have any snow on my south facing front lawn but my back sidwalk is a sheet of ice. There will be teams going all night so I hope they play safe and are careful.

Is it okay to fix a cache if the CO is long gone?
Klondike Mike replied to Senvies's topic in General geocaching topics
Yeah, not sure how to correct that one. Can a reviewer remove a "Needs Maintenance" icon, or would that level of editting have to come from the Lily Pad? I don't think I'd have to worry about the hypothetical cache being archived by any of our three local reviewers just because of the icon, as all three of them would be aware that any real issues would be addressed and corrected by me. Yes a reviewer can and has removed the needs maintenance icon -

Yes, go ahead. Just say that 4Wheelin_fool said it was okay. I'm with 4wheelin_fool on this one. -
Forget about FTF's, what's about shared FTF's?
Klondike Mike replied to SooMukwas's topic in General geocaching topics
I get to read about all kinds of entertaining co-ftf in/around my area. How about three guys all claiming ftf on a bison tube one of them pulls out of his pocket because the original was missing. Here are their logs on the same cache: "WOOHOO FTF! We almost had to log a DNF on this one until someone spotted the hook. Some sort of critter must have made off with the original bison tube. Fresh one signed and replaced." "woot ftf little late loging kinda forgot about this one better late than never TFTH" "Well after a nice atv ride into this valley we spent some time looking for this bison tube, we were worried we were going to dnf when little gg found the hook it was supposed to be, we replaced the bison tube. Thanks for the cache and the fun ftf " and all three of them added it to their "its all about the numbers ftf list" or one where two teams race to a cache at the start of a weekend caching event. Team "A" beats Team "B" to the cache yet a member of team "B" claims co ftf and adds it to his visable ftf bookmark list -
Some humor to rebel against "The Micro"
Klondike Mike replied to gridlox's topic in General geocaching topics
lol, that's funny!! -
I clicked on a geocaching link while browsing for a gps. I wanted the gps to mark fishing spots because the " mark an X on the bottom of the boat" wasnt cutting it for me

Just where do you find your Cache containers?
Klondike Mike replied to magpieboy's topic in General geocaching topics
Save On does a batch sale of a good loc n loc knock off every so often. I prefer those over the loc n loc brand. My wife tends to spot them when they are in stock and comes home with a few for me. I then run out and buy a whole bunch more -
I picked up a metal detector to locate benchmarks. Since then I've used it to find a few caches that were hidden umm "outside of the box"

New World Record - 413 geocache finds in ONE day

Well, this has been an interesting read but it really seems to be "a big to do about nothing" -
Talk about over priced!! Lee Valley does or did sell bison tubes for around $1.09 each. I have no use for a nano, free or other wise. Nothing there that you can't do yourself for a fraction of the cost

I think it's all pretty entertaining. It's funny to see what lengths some will go to to claim a ftf. These logs are really comical "WOOHOO FTF! Logging a find and including the number
Klondike Mike replied to obsidianspider's topic in General geocaching topics
I found it to be extremely tacky to recieve these two logs: June 21, 2008 by xxxx (4114 found) Power caching around Alberta with xxx and xxxx. TFTC, TNLNSL. Find #2455 Time of the find: 20:31 Find # 69 of 92 for the day Time between finds 00:00:54 June 20, 2008 by xxxxxx (3823 found) Up in Edmonton and Sherwook Park area power caching with xxxx. TFTC, TNLNSL. xxx & xxx Time of the find: 20:31 Find # 69 of 92 for the day Time between finds 00:00:54 When this same cache recieved comments like: "I enjoy the work (and in this case, the whimsy) that went into this hide" "Great job. Very impressed" "I am impressed. We may have lost grandpaloren, but we still have a master in our midst. Well done, I love it" "I too wanted to see this cache after hearing its fame. I think this cache certainly lives up to it. Love the effort and creativity that went into this cache" "Decided to go see what all the fuss was about, and was quite impressed" "This was far and away my favorite cache of the day. I really appreciate it when time and effort goes into placing a cache and this one was great. Very well done" My mistake on this cache was placing it too close to parking, it was still within reach of the `power `cachers Im all for cachers adding number to milestone finds`.
