  1. and this: So maybe they'll get the hint? -Bob I hesitate to sing this tune but...Not all caches are for all cachers and if you do not like them, do not hunt them. Also since when are we "owed" a cool FTF prize? When did this entitlement coma along? I apologize if I misunderstood you post, but to me it comes across as if you expect/are owed/deserve a cool FTF prize or swag. As others have mentioned, contact the cacher and offer to take them caching one day. This is a great way to be part of the solution, because everyone knows if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. You may also find out that this new cacher is in "poor health" and on a limited income, and cannot get very far off the road or afford cool swag, but has found a new hobby and just wants to contribute to it in his/her own way. It may be all they can afford to contribute. Heck my parents, Okcherokee, are in there 60’s and questionable health, and I could see them placing some lame caches if Michelle and I were not around to show and tell them about “cool caches”. More than likely everyone is assuming correctly, and the new cacher is in good health, has enough “extra money” around to get some descent swag, and is just placing un-informed lame caches, but on the off chance that my scenario is correct, you might not want to be so “mean-spirited” in you logs Just thought I would offer a flip side to the coin. Happy caching
  2. Correction 107. Prolly thanks to your free advertisment. Thanks Carleen. BTW All you avid watchers. The latest find entry might just get deleted. I was at the bunker alllll weekend. Get it? was that your army type jeep parked "on the road"? We saw that and decided to come back later. Had we known it was you we would have stormed on in.
  3. TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cool. The vests look good too, but I am more interested in the antenna balls. Can we pre-order? Or do we just sit and feel like kids getting close to December 25th? But on this one we have no date.
  4. Welcome Doug, Your question has been answered, so there is nothing to add there, but I wanted to let you know that there is a VERY active caching group in Austin, and they are VERY excited when it comes to helping the newer cachers. You can click on the Texas Geocaching link in my signature line, and contact them from that website.
  5. In the past 9 months, since we started caching, we have camped for a total of 8 nights specifically for cache related activity. This does not include our summer road trips to Delaware and back to Houston or from Houston to Eastern Iowa and back to Houston. We still need to log some caches from that last trip. LOL
  6. got it thanks. I could not figure out what link it was. too late at night, I guess.
  7. I must be missing something. When I go to the link, it looks like a normal sales page. ???????? Where are the rules etc?
  8. Trying to get back ON TOPIC, I, just like the OP, would like to know the differences between Metroguide vs. City Select. Sounds like the map data is more recent/correct, but are there any "function" differences? Like different region sizes etc.?
  9. I thought that was the one About the sig items and such, we need to talk. Hope to see ya on the trail or at an event in the future.
  10. More times than I care to say. Most of the time, it is because we come up with an idea, and then months go by before we do anything about it. You live in our area, and we have enjoyed your caches so far. Off topic: Are you referring to I van... and the "blimp cache"? Did/do you work for the Astros? Not too many people have the “old logo”, well not enough to use as a sig item anyway.
  11. But there’s a moratoriam on locationless caches and the task can’t be made into a traditional cache. Edit typo That's true. But if you have to find the first cache first, then what you have is a multi cache for the second. A non traditional one, but one just the same. You can do the same thing with a mystery cache. Like I said, it's been done (Lowracer has something similar) so you are not breaking new ground. Some cache ownetrs seem to allow multiple "smilies" on a few or their caches
  12. You can close any topic that you started by scrolling down to the bottom of the page, and then looking at the lower left corner, you will see a dropdown list that gives you the option of closing any topic that YOU started.
  13. heck...ask my greatgrandparents about that. Thank you Andy Jackson
  14. not logging finds online that you found months ago in other states. I STILL need to log our finds from W. 151st in Kansas.
  15. Ford is better than Chevy Ok....Ok....for real this time.... AMEN
  16. Me too. I have had a Meridian Gold for 9 months, but found the yellow eTrex on sale for a VERY good deal so I got one. We had just finished an early supper and went caching. We got about .5 from the pizza place and I realized I had left my new toy on the roof of the car. At that same exact second, yep you guessed it; it flew off the roof at about 45mph. We stopped the car, and after searching for a bit, we found the little yellow guy STILL ON WITH SAT LOCK and just a minor scratch on the plastic case. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning, and his favorite toy of the year just broke, only a few hours old. I am VERY impressed with the toughness of this unit.
  17. We took this one tonight, at this cache and posted it to the log, but as you can see, it gives nothing away. We are standing right next to the hiding spot. We LOVE night caching
  18. do not trust the online checker system. I have a post "somewhere" that said I did that, but when I called to verify they had zero. I would call first. They were able to search stores in the area and found a few and had one sent over for me.
  19. We have dine this a few times while taking new cachers, or cachers from other areas, out caching. We will sometimes write a note in the cache log, but not on-line, but we ask the cachers that are logging the find to just mention that we were "in-tow". If I see a cool Travel Bug AND We can help achieve its goal, we will "revisit" a cache and pick it up. In these cases we note it in the cache log AND "write a note" on the cache page. That is how we are currently playing the game, others may disagree, and at some point we may change the way we play, but I do not think we will EVER log a cache find more that once. I know some areas in Texas where the owner will allow double "smilies" for a variety of reasons, but not in our area, and that is not how we have decided to play the game. Everyone plays differently.
  20. try making the change, log out of the system, then logging back in.
