  1. Here is one that was totally awesome and got my nephews excited about caching.
  2. Have you tried to F5 refresh the page?
  3. Except.... many caches around here *are* in the woods - just like the two I mentioned in this thread!
  4. I made sure there were FTF prizes in my caches because of a selfish reason: the FTF 'confirms' to me my coords are accurate. The prize is my way of saying thank you for making sure my cache was in the place I said while showing it was worthwhile to search for.
  5. Both my caches were found within hours of being published. And given they were not in obvious spots, I'd say my coords were pretty good! Yippee!
  6. I think this is the key for me. I was looking downtown Vancouver on the weekend for this micro. There were muggles around, at a nearby restaurant, walking from the grocery store etc. and it is surrounded by highrises. My GPS took me to a spot where I had to get into a bushy area along the seawall. In short, there was no real way to do that without looking suspicious. One fellow sitting nearby could not stop staring at me and so I simply had to give up. I'll go back of course, but I am wary that this is the way of this cache.
  7. Friends from Calgary were visiting 2 years ago and took us out to show us what geocaching was all about. I thought it was really cool... 2 years later, husband wins a GPSr at a work function. It was the most expensive thing he ever won. That was 2 weeks ago. I'm hooked.
  8. Well I went back today and checked my way points from yesterday. They were pretty close. Not perfect, but heck, good enough.
  9. I am not sure I got into caching for the money, but yes, I have been fortunate to reap the benefits of some generous FTF prizes. Just not enough to retire on. I want to geo*cash* all I ever do is geo*cache*
  10. Well I must say it was reassuring to read of your experiences, Star, brian, Lucky. I'm relaxing a little now. As we all know, when you go to the trouble of making a cute cache and scouting out a nice spot, you want it to be a fun experience for people to find it also.
  11. My search terms must be too broad because I'm getting loads of irrelevant hits. I'm worried the coords I have listed for my new cache(s) may be inaccurate. I marked the spots I hid the caches, walked away, came back and marked them again. I did this 3 times and went with the coords that were closest to another. These are my first hides and I simply came up with this method on my own. I am using a Garmin ETrex H. Is that a problem? Because of the trees all around, my signal bounced around somewhat. Should I go back and recheck the coords another day? Wait for the long list of DNFs? Thanks for your ideas....
  12. Is geocashing worthwhile? I mean all I've found have been trinkets and toys from my geocaching. Are there some real bucks to be made with this?
  13. I am STILL laughing out loud at this and I first read it about 5 minutes ago. Too funny!
  14. I cache in a forest that permits dogs. The dog owners in general are very responsible and use a plastic bag to remove their dog's waste. However, some people go to all the trouble of collecting the poop - and then fling the bag into the woods. They may think they have disposed of the dog waste but sadly they are very mistaken.
  15. To navigate to a point - first "mark" your current position - then "edit" the lat and log to where you want to go. Save that. Select the waypoint you saved above and the select goto. Use the compass screen to see the direction and the countdown of how far you need to go to get to the waypoint. No need to see both current and derstination coordinates. Unfortunately I do have a need as when I turn, the 'compass' doesn't and so it is forever pointing in the wrong direction. The compass is unfortunately, useless. The countdown is good, however! I want to be able to see the difference between where I am and where I need to be in long/lat coords... Thank you for your reply. are you talking about the compass of the arrow that shows you shat direction the cache is in. Yes, the compass, with the arrow.

  17. Ok, here is my question: I can put up my current location, but I cannot also put up the long/lat of the waypoint/find I am looking for. I can put up its name - but that is useless! Any ideas?
  18. Oh and I forgot to mention this. Today on our way to a find we passed a muggle family walking their cat in the forest. On a leash.
  19. Ok so this is laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame compared to what I have read so far but today I found a giant slug, about the size of a banana. Yeah, I know, thanks for playing.
