  1. I respect the title, and I think it means something. Back at the time that Premium Memberships were first being offered on this site, the concept of passing money to young, small, web-site-only companies for promises of continued future services was not nearly as ordinary as it is today. And it wasn't clear that geocaching would ultimately be a Real Thing. The people who bought Premium Memberships on geocaching.com back then were the ones who trusted the site owners enough, and bought into the geocaching-as-a-hobby concept enough, to be willing to take the (albeit) small risk of a Premium Membership purchase. Seems kind of silly I suppose, but I respect those who were willing to take the risk when there were way, way fewer caches (and fewer benefits for having a Premium Membership), and then financially stick with it all these years. Awww, shucks, thanks.... Hi, do you have any idea how many Charter Members there are??
  2. WoW, We have done about half the power caches near you and will look for HY 397, Nine Mile and Kirk Road on around the 27th or 28th. For some reason I am unable to bring up your caches. I found your road. I can't bring up just caches in the area using a search of Kennewick. I can however bring up all the caches that I have in my PQ. I have just loaded 5 GPSs with all the caches we have on our trip. May have to just use send to GPS to add those. We will be lucky to find all the caches in the other PT. May just wait until you get a hundred or so in your string. Thanks Dick Just tried again searching Kennewick and all the caches showed up showing all of your caches. If we have time we will look for them. This is part of a trip we are taking to see our Grandson near Jackson, Wy and on the return we will look for a short power trail in Bliss, Id and then drive to Kennewick to hopefully find the power trails mentioned above before heading to Bremerton
  3. Should I ever forget my pen and can't find a pull tab I will have to try that method. Out of curiosity, why did you bring camo tape for a cache that had not yet been found? Your little picture looks just like me!! W7WT
  4. We are in our mid eighties and last year was a geocaching loss as I was recovering from open heart surgury and the wife had a stroke. We just got back from a most enjoyable power trail trip. The first was along the Washington side of the Columbia River on a nice forested road with great view points. All the caches were different. Then we caches our way to just south of Kennewick, Wa and did 3 different caches runs on lonely roads thru sage brush and some wheat fields. I hope to get 10,000 in my life time and with our disabilities we are limited to car travel. We enjoyed the quiet geocaching with almost no cars. I don't like urban caches fighting traffic and few parking spaces. We do what we can do. Dick & Arlene
  5. My wife and I both have CCW and have taking proper training. Since we have gotten older and I had open heart surgery and she had a stroke, we don't hit the trail much geocaching. Last week we were down in Oregon and just a reminder your Washington CCW is not accepted in Oregon. I don't believe Oregon will accept any out of state CCWs. We probably should carry it more for protection from loose or wild dogs than anything else. I have had cougars stock me in the past.
  6. Hi good to hear from you. K7IRN will be a nice call. Easy to remember. I still appreciate you and Chris's visit, when I was recovering. 75 Dick

    Found Your GPS

We are on a geocaching mini trip down from Bremerton to Lincoln City via Longview, Astoria. Left Saturday from Bremerton and lost my left hearing aid. (they don't give those suckers away) I have insurance on the right one but not sure if my left one is still under warrenty. Anyway, this morning I got an e-mail from a Longview cacher (God bless him) asking if I had lost a hearing aid in a cache as he had found one and noticed I had also logged the cache. He is sending me my hearing aid. Boy isn't that nice of a fellow geocacher. I wanted to send him $100 but he wouldn't accept it. I still think I will send him $30 so he can renew his PM when it becomes due. I lost one once before over in Cashmere under a maple tree and couldn't find it as the maple tree seeds looked just like it. Just wanted to point out Geocachers are a great group. dick
  8. Thanks Jim, Arlene is a tough gal and only managed to come out with a lot of wet muck that a shower and laundry took care of. Thanks Abby, remember you promised that, you would be there on my 100th birthday when I will look for "Ring of Fire" I am keeping track, you will be 57 then. Thanks Mingo Finder, Let me explain. We both have found Mingo and caches in Pretzel City at Krape Park(which is krapepark spelled backwards). I taught Electronics at Freeport Senior High School from l948 until l952. Their sport teams were called the "Pretzels" Yes Freeport is a German beer drinking City in Northern Illinois.
  9. First I want to thank all the geocachers who wished me happy birthday on Facebook. I no longer go to Facebook and thought I had got off of it. The big event for us was finding NOT-7 in Poulsbo. We finally found it yesterday. We made many trips looking for it. On one trip Arlene went where she should not have been and lost her balance and fell in the creek on her back. Had a difficult time getting her up because of the deep muck. That is over and I don't feel a day over 90. Dick & Arlene Bremerton
  10. Not sure but my guess is the last PQ has over written the same cache in the first PQ.
  11. I've owned my 1999 Toyota RAV4 nearly 13 years (yes, I know I'm not the norm...in anything ). It's AWD and medium clearance, and has taken me on a lot of gnarly caching adventures in the backcountry. Well worth the $22k I paid to drive it off the lot, and it still gets about 23 mph city and 28 mph highway. It has over 160k miles on it, and I'm on my third timing belt, second set of shocks, and due for my fifth set of tires. I am finally starting to consider a new (different) vehicle of more recent vintage, which is why I'm interested in this thread (thanks, Jester). I can only justify one car, and need AWD and medium clearance for those adventures (sorry, hybrids). I wouldn't buy the current RAV4; I'm considering a Subaru (possibly a Forrester), as so many friends have and recommend them, although the gas mileage hasn't improved over the years. I was at the Toyota Dealer this morning having a new Oxygen sensor put in the Land Cruiser and was just looking over the RAV4s, Our daughter had a RAV4 and I really liked it. The LC is a 2000 and other than getting below 20 mpg has been a great car. I didn't drive the RAV4, but it sure looked great. The LC has been maintance free up to this year. I wondered if we should trade it in for a new RAV4 but have decided to keep the LC. It only has about 70K and new tires. We have a Scion that we use when the roads are good. I wonder why you wouldn't consider a new RAV4. Thanks Dick & Arlene
  12. Good MPH? Or good MPG? The two are usually mutually exclusive. The Jeep Hemi will provide an abundance of the former, and precious little of the latter. Sort of like our Land Crusher, will pass anything on the road but a "Filling Station". We drove the LC over and did the power trail by Ritzville. Got about 15 mpg. We normally take the little t5 Scion. Noisy on the road but gets about 33 mpg. Would like to have a Honda CRV.
  13. Glad you are OK. Never know when something like that is going to happen. Maybe you can turn the van into a cache.
  14. There is a compass and it will guide you to the cache. Most geocachers use the compass page to find GZ.
  15. To get a list of caches around your area. Go to Geocaching.com and a page with your handle should show up on top. Below is a series. click on PLAY, then HIDE AND SEEK, Type in your town where it says address, and you will get a list of caches in your area. If you click on MAP IT you will get a map showing you where the caches are. Play around and you will see how it is set up. Welcome to Geocaching
  16. Try looking for them with the NAME option rather than Nearest. Our 60CSx will not show them on nearest over 50 miles (I think)
  17. 2006 was a great geocaching year for me. I found Mingo and got to hug Ambrosia. I am glad it is active again. We drove from Bremerton, Wa via Southern Illinois to visit relatives and then to Mingo. Lucked out, it was our actual 1300th find. I may be wrong on the year I got to hug Ambrosia but it was at the Spring Fling in Washington State. You can verify my find of Mingo by clicking on my Avatar.

    Nanos

There are several ways of rolling up the little log strip. We always carry a couple of bobby pins with the lower 1/4 inch cut off. Makes rolling it up easier. Wife carrys tweezers to pull it out. Sure hard to find the little guys if you drop it in the grass when you are putting it back in its resting place.
  19. Mark it, then edit it to your coordinates and save.
  20. Yay! We we got it straight from the horse's...er...dog's mouth! Feel free to share, Snoogans. How do you like my Avatar Ambrosia?
  21. You cannot delete the caches from the unit itself. Connect your 62s to your computer and go to removable storage devices. It will take a little while for the 62s to appear. Click on view for the drop down screen and it will list what is on the 62s. Click on Garmin and then gpx and your caches will appear where you can delete them.
  22. As I mentioned above, if you are using the 60CSx as indicated in the topic heading, it is NOT paperless. You will not be able to get Hints, descriptions, and previous logs on the 60CSx. We have two of them that we use for finding the cache and have the paperless information on our Nuvi 550. You can still benefit from your PM by downloading PQ.
  23. As indicated by Fuzzy, the Trout Lake area is very nice. We stayed all night in Goldendale and then drove up into page 90 and 89 for the Delorme Challenge. Not exactly the Columbia Gorge but we recently went across the Columbia at Longview and did the caches along US 30 down to Scappoose. Traffic was relative light and caches were fairly easy with nice views. A relaxing trip in small towns along the way. We did the caches on the right side going down and the other side coming back. I should mention we are in our eighties and unable to do long hikes, so YMMV.
