  1. I carry a bobby pin in my little change purse that i always have in my pocket. We cut off the end were it is flared open. If I lose it my 86 year old wife always has one in her hair. Works great.
  2. Thanks, I just tried it again and this time the GSX file was under Garmin. I always delete all caches at one time before I put a new PQ in.
  3. Just getting acquainted with my Montana 650. I used GSAK to load it with caches, no problem. With my Nuvi 550 I connect it to my computer and find the caches in the GSX file where I delete them. Hoping to do the same with the 650 but when I connect it to my computer the GSX file doesn't show. Yet, I did find an answer ib a Q&A article that said that was the way to do it. Any suggestions.
  4. Not getting softer but OLDER and less MOBILE. After having open heart surgery and the wife a stroke we have to limit ourself to what we can do. I am 87 and the wife is a year younger. However we have found almost 2,000 this year. Yes, a few powertrails that you can drive to have helped. Dick & Arlene
  5. We have the Nuvi 550 and it does well for us. Very easy to use and if you plan on traveling to Alaska or Canada get the 550.
  6. Two Nuvi 550. two 60CSx. one 76CSx for backup. Works well for us. Bought wife's 60CSx and a new 78S from REI. The wifes 60CSx performed better in finding caches so returned the 78S and got another 60CSx. Almost forgot, I still have my orginal Garmin 45.
  7. Back in August of 2001, I was into photography and the web master on a Sony Digital Camera forum mentioned taking pictures during his geocaching. I already had a Garmin 45 and looked up geocaching. Found a cache just about a mile north of my home. Hopped on my scooter and went to look for it. The Garmin 45 lost satellite contact as soon as i entered the forest. So went to Fred Meyers and they had this new Magellan Map 330. I bought it and found the cache deep in the woods. It is still active. I used W7WT for my handle as I was very active in Ham Radio and more people knew me by my ham call than my given name.I am now 87 and the XYL is 86 and we hope to get to the 7,000 finds this year. Only need about 220 more to do it. Dick & Arlene Bremerton, WA
  8. Very possible you did work me as I was very active on all bands before we got into geocaching. 88 Dick, W7WT
  9. Last year was a low for us as I was recovering from open heart surgury and the wife had a stroke. I am 87 and the wife is 86. Our goal is to find 10,000 caches while we are still mobile. For 2012 we started the year with about 5,000 finds and are trying to get to 7,000 this year. We are on track having 6,604 caches right now. All the nice wx we are having in the Puget Sound Area of Washington has helped. We usually start out on Sunday morning driving to a new cache area and stay one or two nights and then come home. Series caches are a big help for us. We are not mobile enough to do any trail caches. Enjoying geocaching since 2001. Dick & Arlene Bremerton, WA
  10. Hi, you sure get around, we are the old couple you met in the Land Cruiser at the start of the Spencer Road run. Wish we were young enough to join you on this trip. We are in our late eighties and hope to get to 10K while we are still mobile. We are always looking for what I call Series Runs like the LC to Adna run we just did. We have done the power run near Ritzville. We are not mobile enough to do the power trail runs. Knees don't work too well anymore. Anyway it was nice meeting you and I am sure your trip will be rewarding. Dick & Arlene W7WT
  11. I have a virtual cache (High on a Windy Hill) in the Olympic National Park that has one DNF. Been a while but as I remember he logged it because he forgot his cache page with the Questions. Don't remember if he ever returned with his printed cache page to log a find.
  12. The wife and I are in our mid-eighties and just did a power trail south of the Columbia River in the hills. We did have an adventure as I made a wrong turn and ended up the mountain. Our routing GPS got us in a loop. finally found a better road and took it back into town and then did the power trail in reverse order. Since I had open heart surgery and the wife had a stroke, we had to pass up some caches that were up an embankment. We just do what we can do. Still found over 70 caches. Not complaining, just happy we can still geocache.
  13. We stopped by the Pine Tree Inn for bkfst this morning around 11 from our trip geocaching down in Hood River. I think it was the owner stopped by our table and wanted to know where we were from. When we mentioned Geocaching and how many caches there were in Shelton, he became very interested. We gave him Geocaching.com to try on his computer. Seemed like a very nice young man (every one is young for us) and it would be nice if a local could stop by and give him more advice. Thanks Dick & Arlene Bremerton
  14. W7WT is my amateur radio call. Been a ham since right after I got out of the Navy in WWII. Nice and short to fit on those little strips in the nanos.
  15. GC106D Imperial Data Cache was my first find. I was into photography then and noticed a mention of geocaching on a Sony Digital Camera forum. I already had a Garmin 45 and checked on geocaching.com and found this cache only a mile north of me. Hopped on my scooter and headed for the cache. The Garmin 45 lost satellite fix as soon as I headed into the forest. Rode down to Fred Meyers and bought a new Magellan 330 and found the cache. It was deep into the forest in a large plastic container. At that time the forest was full of junk cars, homeless people and tracks made by 4 wheelers. They have now cleaned it up and it has a parking lot and sawdust trails. It is still there and active.
  16. About a year ago, I bought a new 60CSx for my wife and a 78s for myself. We also have a Nuvi 550 for paperless caching. The 60CSx outpreformed the 78s in getting to GZ. I just never felt comfortable with the 78s so returned it to REI and got a 60CSx for myself. Probably should have given more time for the 78s, but we have been happy with the setup we have now. We use GSAK to load all of the units. We paid about $225 each for the new 60CSx. 422
  17. Today, I got an e-mail from a geocacher, ham radio operator, who has done those power trails. Good information and we appreciate it. Hardest part will be getting a reasonable rate from a motel that has a available room. Dick & Arlene Just realized I called the Tc Scion a T5 by mistake, but who cares.
  18. We have done the CU power trails across the river on the Washington side as well as the one near Ritzville and all the ones south of Kennewick. They were all fine and we could have driven them in our T5 Scion. Looking for others like this. Considering doing some of those in the Hood River area. We are not physically capable to do much more than a T-2. Would appreciate Which would be appropriate for two old geocachers. We also have a Toyota Landcruiser 2000 which we can drive if necessary. We usually take the T5 as it gets twice the MPG of the landcrusher. We take our time and do what we can do. Dick & Arlene Bremerton
  19. First time it has happened to us. We turned off both of our 60CSx when we finished some power trails in Eastern Washington. Drove home to the "Wet" side and today I ran a short PQ of some local caches. I use GSAK to load our old standby 76CSx, Nuvi 550, and they loaded OK. Then I changed the setup for 60CSx and it indicated they loaded successfully. However when I went to FIND it said none found. I took them outside and let them acquire satellites and tried again and they loaded. Maybe it's always been that way. Just seemed strange that they wouldn't load regardless of where they were when turned off. The 76CSX is only used for standby and never turned on during the trip. Never Mind: Of course they loaded and would have found that out had I searched by name instead of nearest. Please close Topic.
  20. Last year I had open heart surgery and Arlene had a stroke, we try to go visit our Grandson in Wilson,Wy. We just cached along the road from Bremerton to Driggs Id and enjoyed it. After visiting him we drove to Bliss, Id to do a relative short pwr cache. As, I said we are in our mid-eightys and so was the temperature. Being from the Wet side we were not use to the dry hot weather. Just about done us in when we just let the Scion run with the air conditioner wide open. Caches south of town was mostlly in the sage bush and we missed finding a few. North of town was much easier usually near a pwr pole. Next day we drove to Kennewick and found 29 in the HWy 397 series. Easy and great views of the Columbia River. We quit early because we wanted to leave the Nine Mile and Kirk road series for Tuesday. Got up early Tuesday morning and we were having a driving rain storm. Drove up in the Wind generators where they were turnin out mega watts. Sunday we had the air conitioning on full blast. Tuesday we let it run with the heat on full. Opening and closing the door was the hardest part. Found all except one. Great day and we got back to the motel to log all the caches. We did enjoy all the caches. Nice trip to the wet side yesterday. dick and arlene
  21. Last time I posted on here, I was 82. That was five years ago. I am 87 and the wife is 85. Been going strong since August of 2001, except last year i was recovering from open heart surgery and Arlene had a stroke. Leaving tomorrow heading East to Jackson, Wy to visit our grandson and do a little geocaching.
  22. My guess is the Rino 120 is a very old GPS and like the early models you can enter the coordinates by hand or use something like Easy GPS or GSAK to load it. Turn it on and after it acquires satellite data press the MARK button. It will give you your location. Then go to the coordinates indicated on the screen and edit them to the desired coordinates. I have never used to Rino so hopefully someone can come on and give you correct information. Under clear conditions it should take you to find the cache.
  23. It has been going on for many months. There is a thread or two around here about it. To date Groundspeak has no idea why it happens. Thanks Jim, I remember something about it a while back but first time it has happened to me.
  24. Not sure other people are seeing it. Yesterday I noticed it was on another Geocachers avatar instead of his. Today i have found it in the same spot an a couples of geocachers galley pictures. Seems to be in the same spot. If I click on it however it shows the true picture. i wonder it others are also experiencing this. Not a big deal, and no I haven't been drinking.
