  1. Thank you for heading up the hill. We would join you but have reservations for geocaching in Camano Island and around Arlington. Enjoy the nice weather above the fog. Dick, W7WT
  2. Enjoy and I remember you saying "Talkeetna is a drinking Town with a Climbing Problem.
  3. Looks like Hurricane Ridge opened today. I will now archive "High on a Windy Hill" on October 31st. That will give two weeks for anyone wanting to find the Virtual. Dick, W7WT
  4. Hopefully Olympic National Park will be open before the October 15th when I had planned on Archiving it. If not, I will wait for a week after it is again open to Archive it. I know it is only a cache and I do feel bad that I am not able to adopt it out. However I do want to be fair to those that had plans to make a last minute trip. Dick, W7WT
  5. "The weather station at aptly named Hurricane Ridge reported a gust of 85 mph just after 7:30 p.m" I have been cross country skiing up there when the wind was strong, but not that STRONG.
  6. We cut off the open end of a bobby pin where it fares out. I keep one in my coin purse. Works fine. I also have a very small long needle pliers with slim points that works great removing the nano log sheet
  7. Just a reminder "High on a Windy Hill" virtual in the Olympic National Park at Hurricane Ridge will be ARCHIVED the 15th of October. It was placed 11 years ago on October 15, 2002. There is a Earth Cache within walking distance of the Visitor Center. Winter arrives early up there. I have also informed the National Park of the archiving. Dick,W7WT
  8. We were so old when we started 12 years ago. that Chriminal called me "The Grandfather of Geocaching". I may have misspelled his name. but I am sure the old timers remember him.
  9. My questions have been answered. Please close this topic.
  10. I am very happy the Earth Cache is there so visitors can get a cache and enjoy the wonders of Hurricane Ridge. Right now I am not sure what our future in Geocaching will be.
  11. Thanks, Hope you can make it over to add "High on a Windy Hill" to your long list of Virtual finds. Had the cast off last week but it will be a while before we make it over to Coeur d' Alene to do some great geocaching. dick
  12. That is the very reason why I asked the question. I was afraid the armchair loggers would still try to log it. What you need to do is after they archive the cache, go back in and try to enter another log. If you can, contact the reviewer and request to have the cache logs locked. That way no one can enter anything else on the cache. Thanks to you and Beach Nut, that is what I will do. dick, w7wt
  13. That is the very reason why I asked the question. I was afraid the armchair loggers would still try to log it.
  14. It is my virtual cache and I will be archiving it October 15, 2013. It was activated October 15, 2002. Virtual caches can not be adopted out. It is in the Olympic National Park up on Hurricane Ridge. I have announced in the NW forum and on the cache page that it will be archived then. I was am 88 years old and wish to archive it. There is a Earth Cache within walking distance of the cache.
  15. If you find a virtual cache and forget to log it until after it has been archived, can you back log it before it was archived?
  16. High on a Windy Hill was hidden on 10-15-02. I have decided to archive it on 10-15-13. We are home now and I had my cast removed Friday. Still pretty useless. Arlene had an emergency operation for a bleeding Aortic and has to take it easy. So it will be awhile before we geocache again. Thanks for all the kind words and best wishes. Dick & Arlene
  17. We are still in rehab but maybe go home this week. We will archive HIGH ON A WINDY HILL when the snow starts. dick
  18. thanks jim we were in a car accident I have a broken right arm and Arlene was operated on to put a stint oh aortic tube we should be going home next week sorry for my left hand typing can't hold down shift key dick and arlene
  19. This is w7wt's daughter. He is in the hospital currently and cannot return emails. If you have a photo of self at the site, then put a smiley face for the cache.
  20. Here is some information on the Earthcache: Mount Angeles Lookout A short .2 mile walk from Hurricane Ridge parking to an amazing view of Mount Angeles, and Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus is the highest peak in the Olympics at 7,962 ft. Learn how the Olympics were formed. You will be surprised. This is a view you do not want to miss!
  21. Good answer except there is already an earthcache within walking distance of the Visitor Center. The area is covered and I am not looking for any way to keep "High on a Windy Hill" active.
  22. I would never do that but thanks for the idea. I have tried to do a good job on answering as soon as I receive the answers to the questions. In the winter, or anytime the visitor's center is close, I will accept photos proving that they we there. I even got one DNF from a cacher that forgot his copy of the cache page so he DNF the cache. I also have a file of all the visitors and usually clear it out once a month. I had two German couch potatoes that sent me the correct answers when the road was closed. Upon checking they had found virtuals in five states and two different countries the same day. I did delete their logs and sent them an e-mail telling why. Thanks to everyone for your nice comments. Dick, W7WT
  23. I am 88 and since I can't adopt this cache out. I will be archiving it the last of this year. There is no one in my family that geocaches and I would not burden them with it. So, if you need it for the Delorme Challenge visit it this summer. There is a Earthcache nearby now. It seems to be popular with visitors from out of state or other countries. Dick, W7WT I probably should add that it is a virtual that cannot be adopted.
  24. Thank you. I know it is high altitude. I once stopped in Rock Springs Airport and remember it took a long time for my Piper 140 to get enough lift to get off the runway. We will try to get down there before the snow starts again. dick, w7wt
  25. I just looked at your series of caches. We are in our eighties and have to be very careful what we get into We cache in either a Scion Tc a very low clearance but 33 mpg or a 2000 Land Cruiser all wheel drive and good clearance but gets half the mpg that the Scion gets. We have done pwr trails in Kennewick and Ritzville Wa. Las week we did some of the pwr trails south of Hood River, Or. We have also done some of the ones in Mountain Home, Id and will be doing more there next month. Right now I have the feeling that maybe it would not be wise for a couple of old geocachers to attempt your great series. Thanks Dick & Arlene Bremerton, WA
