  1. I assume you were on I 10. "The sun has riz and the sun has set, been traveling three days and I'm in Texas yet"Enjoying your travels. Never pulled a mobile trailer, we had 3 different Van type RVs. Sure nice to not have to unload things into a motel. Also nice to pull out in the morning when it raining and see the unhappy people trying to round up the kids and fold the tents. We have had all kinds of transportation and a cabin at Lake Cushman. We had 3 van type RVs, several 4WD vehicles (Just gave our Land Cruiser to our son in Alaska) had two airplanes, 5 or so scooters, many different boats. Now we have just the CRV. We have cached in all 50 states when they were few and far between. I remember when in Texas we stopped for bkfst and Arlene said they are eating mashed potatoes. I told her it was grits. We drove all the way to Kansas via Illinois (my home state) just to get Mingo. Also drove all the way to Kittyhawk to see the memorial for flight and only found 60 caches on the trip. Glad to see you enjoy things while you can. Dick & Arlene W7WT
  2. Thank you. We both have a hearing problem and avoid groups of people as all we hear is a loud roar. I am adding the rest of the North caches to my Darrington Bookmark and will do it after we do the South trails and get the goal of 10,000. Our daughter lives in Bothell and wants to be with us when we get the 10,000 so we will be going after it on a weekend sometime. We will either stay in Arlington or in Darrington for a couple of nights when we do the rest of the North roads. We will probably bypass the ones that are not near the road. I understand the motel in Darrington has changed hands. The lady that use to have it fixed us a nice bkfst when we stayed there before. Dick & Arlene
  3. Thank you, we just do what we can do. Dick & Arlene
  4. Thanks you have answered my questions. Not sure when we will be going. Dick, w7wt
  5. Thank you Laurie, I was thinking about you just the other day about KRAPE PARK in Freeport that spelled backwards is KRAPEPARK. Also when i ran across a picture of me at Mingo and you getting stuck in Missouri I have enjoyed your caches over the years. Take care. Dick, W7WT
  6. Today is my 90th birthday. Our goal in geocaching is to get 10,000 finds before we will be unable to geocache. Right now we only need around 40 more caches. In october of 2012 we cached to bc #6 on the Scratte River NF26 as far as we could drive. We are unable to do much hiking. Can anyone confirm that the road is now open to drive to the rest of the caches. I have a bookmark ready to do the power trail by Johnny Cache 79 on the Sauk Prairie Road out of Darrington. We enjoyed the power trail in 2012 and thought we might go for "The end" cache by JC for our 10,000 find. We gave our Land Cruiser to our son in Alaska and will be driving a Honda CRV. Would appreciate any info about doing either cache trails. This year we did power caches in Walla Walla and in the desert west of Mountain Home. Good caches in both area. Thanks Dick and Arlene Bremerton
  7. We started in August 2001. I will be 90, April 23rd. The XYL (wife) is 89 and has severe memory loss. We just did a pwr trail in Mountain Home, Idaho. Our goal in geocaching is to get 10,000 before we kick the bucket. We now have 9,927, so I think we can reach that magic number soon. Dick & Arlene Bremerton, WA Hey NOWWWWWWWW ... don't quit at 10K. after 10,000 set 10,001 as your next milestone and on into the future one at a time. GEO-HUGGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ to you and the Mrs. 73's to you both. Dave KF6YQR Thank you Dave. We will probably keep on Geocaching as it is about the only thing we can do except ham radio and I have downsized that. I got my ham license W9ZKU right after getting out of the Navy in WW2. We probably enjoyed the two Planes we had (Piper 140 & Piper Archer) The XYL got her private license after being 50. Our son is a retired 747400 cargo captain and is now flying for Talkeetna Air Taxi in Alaska. Our granddaughter is also flying for them. I lost three tendons in my right rotocuff so I had to give up another favorate hobby flyfishing. But I can still drive and feed myself and take care of my wife who has severe memory loss. No regrets I have had a wonderful life. 73 Dick & Arlene

  9. We have both the Etrex 20 and 62S. Both work fine. The Etrex 20 battery last a long time. The 62S life is about the same as the 60 models. I put new AA batteries in it once a day before we start geocaching.
  10. Thanks, our son Tom is a retired 747-400 cargo Captain and this summer is flying for Talkeetna Air Taxi. He also has a Super cub. Our granddaughter Leighan is flying for Above Alaska and she and her Climbing Ranger own a Piper Pacer. I am sure we will be invited for a flight up in the Mt. My problem, I am not sure I am able to climb in and out of either of their aircraft. Tucker the climbing ranger was training the Sherpias in Nepal this spring and I am sure he had your coin in his pocket. Dick W7WT
  11. Be leaving Bremerton on June 13 and going to Bothell to spend the night and picking up Susan, our daughter for the trip leaving Bothell on Saturday the 14th. We will only geocache on the way home as We plan on visiting our son Tom and our Granddaughter Leigh and her Climbing Husband Tucker. Our main reason is to see our Greatgrandaughter Skye. We will return home on June 22 dropping off our daughter Susan at the Airport in Anchorage to fly home as she has to be at work the next day. We are in our late 80's with various handicaps. Will be driving a 2000 Land Cruiser and interested in any easy power trails to do. Will be using the Alaska High Way most of the time. Any suggestions. Thanks Dick & Arlene
  12. We are Great Grand Parents and have been enjoying geocaching for 13 years. I am 89 and my wife is 88. We use two Etrex 20 Garmin that are fairly simple and easy to use. We use to have a Roadtrek van type to geocache in. As long as they use geocaching when it is easy to get in a RV, they will enjoy it. Just have to be select in picking out caches that have adequate parking for a RV. Good Luck. Dick & Arlene Bremerton, WA
  13. We have always had a 4WD since we bought the 1970 Land Cruiser. Right now we are driving a 2000 Land Cruiser which will pass anything on the road except a gas station. Very nice, Best vehicle we have ever had. We use it if we expect to be doing any off road or bad wx. We also have a new CRV. As mention by others, for most Geocaching it is an excellent choice. We have never really tested it in rough roads. Nice to have the 4WD in bad weather. Also nice to drive around town. Depends on your geocaching conditions on what would be the best vehicle.
  14. You never cease to amaze me Dick. It has been a real pleasure seeing your signature in the logs over the year. I hope that if I make it to 89 I will still be out on the trail signing logs. Have a happy birthday and give my best to Arlene. Thanks Jim.
  15. This coming Wednesday (April 23) I will be 89 and the wife is 88. We have enjoyed geocaching since 2001. My wife of over 65 years has had two stokes and we are now limited to what we can do. I hope we will be able to do some traveling this summer and pick up some caches. Our goal is to get to 10000 before we kick the bucket. We have had an enjoyable life and geocaching has been a big factor. Dick & Arlene Bremerton, WA I am a WWII Navy vet and Arlene was a welder building parts for WWII Bombers.

    Cuz I can

I have always been considered the OLD MAN in Geocaching. In Fact Criminal always called me the GRANDFATHER OF GEOCACHING.

    Cuz I can

Yes, congrats. You and your lovely wife have given more to Geocaching in Kitap County with your events than the rest of us together. Thank you. Dick & Arlene
  18. Thank you for the links. I was able to delete my double logs for about 10 caches. There was one that was a LOCKED archive that said I would be unable to delete it. So I now just have one that has a double log and I am not going to worry about it. dick, w7wt
  19. No. I was born in Bible Grove, Ill. over 88 years ago. Just East of the Bible Grove VOR I have lived in Bremerton, Wa since 1959.
  20. Forgot to mention, but when we started geocaching in August of 2001 I was considering using either Tail Spin Tommy or Rodger Windsock. We have always been interested in Aviation. During my life time dirigibles flew over our farm in Southern Illinois and Lindburg made his solo flight to Paris. Comic books were names like Tail Spin Tommy who I named my First Son Tom who just retired as a Captain of Atlas 747-400s air freighters My second son was named Rodger as it was my wife's maiden name and Rodger Windsock. But I used my Ham call of W7WT, for my geocaching name. Glad I did because it is short.
  21. I carry a commercial license with a instrument and float plane rating in my billfold. But, since I am now 89 and can't pass the physical, I no longer fly. My son just retired from being a Captain on a 747-400 for Atlas but will being flying next summer for Talkeetna Air Taxi hauling Denali climbers. Our granddaughter also flys out of Talkeetna. I got my first training as a Naval Air Cadet in Steermans. My wife got her private license after she was 50. We had two planes, a Piper 140 and a Piper Archer and made five round trips from Bremerton, Wa to Fairbanks and beyond. We really enjoyed camping out at small airports. This was before geocaching. About the only thing we can do anymore is geocaching. Not as much fun as flying or fly fishing but we do what we can do. Dick & Arlene
  22. We stumbled on the power trails just north of Walla Walla and just got back from there Saturday. We have always enjoyed the rolling hills and traveling thru them. Now they have nice caches in them. We found 144 caches. Being old and slow it took us about two and half days to do them. The group ahead of us did them in one day. Reason I call them mini pwr trails is that they are named after the roads and are not connected in one big loop. We hope to get to the BIG 10K before we "kick the bucket."
  23. We have two Etrex 20s and I don't know how long they last as I only put fresh Costco alkaline batteries in to start a trip. We just went to a 4 day geocaching trip to some mini power trail north of Walla Walla, Wa. We leave them on all the time we are geocaching. We are home now and I deleted all the caches in all of our GPSs and checked the battery indicator on the Etrex 20s and they still indicated full. We had 60CSXs before and they were good for about a day and a half.
