  1. Wow this link sure has saved me, many a time. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
  2. try www.cheaperthandirt.com they've got the best prices, and you can get ammo cans, as well as all sorts of stuff.
  3. Good idea, thanks. I'll give it a try.
  4. We are new to Geocaching, and my husband and I camp at least one weekend a month in Texas State Parks. Is there a way to seach for caches inside the parks? The method I have been using is getting the zip code for the park, plugging it into geocaching.com and pulling up a list. But that list has often one hundred or more listing and I have to open each one to see if it happens to say it's in the park. There must be a better way. Our goal is to see the "off the beaten path" parts of State Parks, without getting in the car, so we'd like to hike from our campsite to caches left in various parks. Anyone have any ideas?
  5. I'm not sure I understand how the Virtual Cache's work. Can someone please explain? I understand there isn't a physical cache to look for. There seem to be questions. Is it that my whole goal is to answer the question, any way possible?
  6. I don't know how, but I can tell you it's the Broken Arrow cache in 76667 zip code. Does that help?
  7. I had my first find, this weekend - I think. It's sad when you're not sure. I found what I think was the cache, my unit said I was within 10 ft, and nothing else was around. But... it looked like the cache had been robbed. I found the empty jar (clean, so it wasn't just a mayo jar tossed from a window), and the lid. I found tons of little tiny pieces of what appeared to be notebook paper, torn into little 1X1 inch squares, and writing but most was unreadable. I carried out trash, and left the jar, along with a childs plastic ring that was near by and a quarter. But... I sprained my ankle before I could make a 2nd cache run. I was all ready - had printed out about 10 or 12 things in the area, had fresh batteries for the GPS, etc... and whamo - couldn't walk to the bathroom, let alone anywhere else. So now, I'm hobbling around home, and disappointed in the weekend adventure.
  8. I'm in Texas, so Washington is slightly out of the way, but I am a big fan of the Dollar Store. I'll check there. Thanks for the ideas.
  9. We're leaving in a couple of hours, I'm gathering up firewood now, and packing the camper. Also, of course I have to run to Wal-Mart, my home away from home. I thought I'd get a few "trade" items there, but have no idea where to start, or what to look for. I need suggestions - HELP!!
  10. RTFLMAO You're right. I keep hearing "log" mentioned in the posts. I know there is usually a log to sign in the cache, but do you also log where you went and with whom, etc? How else would you track how many you've found?
  11. Well, I bought my GPS yesterday (Magellan Sportrak), don't really know how to use it yet, but.... I've got a small bag packed, ready to go in the camper. I've got my GPSand manual - hoping to figure out this stupid thing the print outs for several caches along the way, my digital camera (and charger for it) Wal-Mart bags for picking up trash while we're out searching, mini-first aid kit, with a couple of bandaids and some ointment What else do I need? You see, I have only one chance to prove to my husband there this really is a good idea.
  12. Well, as frustrated as you must be, all I can say is Howdy fellow Texan. Guess that's not positive enough, is it? I'm way too new to have the answers to your questions, but was wondering how many people here are from our great Lone Star State.
  13. I didn't know there was such a thing. Thank you so much. I can only operate the secruity system in the house because we have a video telling me how to bypass things!!! LOL thanks again....
  14. I bought a Magellan Sprotrak today. Now what? Actually it was on sale at Fry's, marked $169., for $99. and then a $30 rebate on top of that. It will work out great for me. If I'm not as amused as I should be with Geocaching, then I've only invested $70, if we love it and get addicted as most of you have, we'll upgrade in a few months. I'm really terrible at following directions on things I read, so it might be a few months before I figure this darned thing out. That's one of the disadvantages of empty nest, there are no teenagers to explain electronics to you!
  15. Now you're all scaring me! OMG!! I'm thinking peaceful trecks through the wooded country side, looking for hidden treasure, my camera with me to capture moments of beauty as the sun begins to set. My husband and I chatting and looking for a cache, while our dog wonders around. Maybe picking up beer cans and trash that uncaring campers have left behind. You're talking about bloated, beheaded, creatures!!! GROSS!
  16. aaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!! I can't find the stupid "printer friendly" option. Are they on the main page where the list comes up after I put the zip code in?
  17. There is an advertisement in my local newspaper for a Magellan Sportrak for about $100. I would assume that's a very basic model.
  18. Thanks for the link. It does sound like my price range is unrealistic. If I'm going to have to spend over $300 I should do more research and find out more I guess. Darned that's disappointing, but...
  19. OK, then can I get a pro for what I'm looking to spend, and if so where?
  20. OK, I've been reading the posts and I'm hooked. I'm going out today to buy a GPS. Suggestions? Since I have a tendency to get bored with things, I'd like to keep it simple at first. Maybe spend $100 to $150 dollars. My husband and I are going camping for New Years. I see that there are a few things hidden in the park we're going to. What do I need to do? Print off something to take with me? What? Do I need to take anything with me on my hunt? Back pack? First aid kit? Flashlight? Pen and Paper? Camera? We're totally new to this. We need to know it all. So I'd like to pick your collective brains for info. I would assume hunting is the best way to start? Then maybe move up to hiding?
