  1. I have 1 PQ that I want to run every day...it's for my local area and I want to keep a good update with every day. All my other PQs run on an as-needed basis. This one PQ that I want to run every day...hasn't ran in over 3 days now. It is the ONLY PQ that is selected to run. I don't care at what "time" it runs...I just want it to run every day. Are we looking at a GC server failure?
  2. I've noticed that when I get a PQ run via email...it's a zip file with a numeric code. Instead of calling it by the name that I give it...I guess I can presume that this number is the ID number of my PQ run inside the master PQ database on the server. I've been a member of Geocaching for over 5 years now. Some of my original PQs have really small numbers...where ones I recently created are way up there. I think that it would be interesting if we could get the server to list (on a map) the centerpoints of other cacher's PQ reports. Clicking on the point would list the start coordinates, or zip, or other cache, and the particular settings for that PQ. If there is already a PQ that is in my area that has the same settings as what I'm going to set why not be given the capability of Cloning the existing PQ (thereby saving valuable database resources.) I do know that my PQ starting coordinates might be a little different than the existing PQ...but I'm willing to fudge a little bit. What if that when I run the cloned PQ...it not only emails ME the output...but the original PQ owner his run data too. (Run the report once...send the results twice...or 3...or 4...) * I know that on my PQ that runs every day...I have it centered on my house. So there will need to be some way of making the displayed start coordinates somewhat fuzzy on the map and in the cloned PQ so that it won't give away my "home" to just anyone. (I would hate for someone to get one of my PQs...learn where my house is...and then rob it when they realize i'm headed out the door to grab a FTF or something.) What does everyone think?
  3. I have about 12 PQs in my que...but only turn them on as needed (1 run per selection). But I have 1 PQ that I have scheduled to run every day. Last time it ran was on 3/5 at 7am...it's now 3/7 at 9pm and I'm still waiting on it to run. Is there a server issue?
  4. We unfortunately have a BAD Geocacher in our area who STOLE everything out of a cache and posted online that they did (and even included a photo of all the swag they took.) This cache is GCRDWM (Beetle Bailey). It looks that whoever found it...went through the trouble of creating a new GeoCacher name of "StoleItAll" and then Logged the find (and theft of the cache contents) and even posted photos of everything they took. Geocaching is to be fun for everyone...but there ARE a few bad apples that mess it up for everyone else. (I'm not talking of your run of the mill muggles...I'm talking about GeoCachers (the non-muggles) that mess caches up for others.) 1. When a GeoCacher creates an account or posts a find...is their IP address logged? 2. Is there a way to lock this Cacher's GC account so that they can no longer use it?
  5. Even more from the Horse's Mouth... Here is the response I got from them this evening... Thank you for contacting Magellan. This email is in response to your query about the Explorist 210. I understand from your mail that you are looking for a firmware update for your explorist 210 NA. I would like to inform you that version for explorist NA cannot be upgraded for explorist Europe. I am afraid, there are no firmware updates as of now for this Explorist. Map updates are released once every 12 - 18 months. Once the map updates are released the information regarding the map update would be posted on the website www.magellangps.com I am confident that the above information would help you in resolving the issue. If you have further queries, please get back to us. You can also contact our Technical Support at 1-800-707-9971 for further assistance. Regards, Magellan Email Support. So now I direct the Q to the forum members...for those who have NA units and upgraded to Europe...is everything working on them?
  6. I would use a regular film camera...that way you don't have to worry about batteries going flat or loosing photos (deleting ones taken). As far as an auto-trigger and opt-in/out. Just put the camera in the cache with instructions telling them to take their own photo...knowing that doing so...you will publish the photos. If they don't want their photos posted...then don't take your photo. KE4MUR
  7. I work on and sell Trimble GPS along with Sokkia GPS units...mostly to Surveyors which need extremely accurate GPS units (sub-centimeter or better). The Sub-Foot GPS units you are refering to use post-processing either onsite or back at your home/office to process the sat data to get better accuracy. In these post-processing units you have to stay stationary on the point you are taking a reading at for anywhere from 30min to a few hours (depending on sat coverage). As we all know...when we are hunting for caches or whatever...the accuracy is not very good. But if you were to record all the readings for about 5 minutes over the same point and average the readings together you can have a better and more acurate reading of the true coordinate. The averaging is what the post-processing procedure does...it helps you in placing the caches and recording the cache coordinates...but it won't help you as far as accuracy in finding them. There is one GPS system called RTK (or RTTK) which uses a Static Base GPS unit placed over a known position (surveyed or processed) along with a Roaming/Rover GPS unit. Since the Base is placed on a "known" point...it can calculate an "error" between this point and whatever the sats are telling the base it's at. This "error" is brodcasted (RF) to the Rover which in turn takes the same sat signal of where the rover is and uses the calculated error from the base to calculate an extremely accurate position Only problem with these RTK systems is that it's not cost effective for caching (costing more than 20K for the system). 8. Ok...I have created a .KML via Google Earth and I have uploaded it to the GeoCaching site. The route is showing in the Uploaded window which allows me to change the name, preview, etc. I put a check in the box next to my route and click "Save Selected Routes" I get an error box that states "Please select a Route to upload"...WHAT?!? Didn't I just do this?!? I have tried checking the box that highlights all routes...same problem. Another thing I noticed is that on this page I am unable to change the route name OR preview...both links do not work. I have verified this error both using Firefox 1.5.0.6 and Internet Exploder 6 (sic) I have already upladed 2 routes so doing this again should not be a problem. Ideas?
  9. (BUG) When trying to get a list of bencmarks near my house (by entering coordinates)...I first get a list of 342 records in "1 of 14 pages". If I change pages the number of records found changes to 73 and "2 of 3 pages". I did try to download the .LOC file and when I import it into GSAK it only showed that it had 73 records. What happened to the other 269 records? KE4MUR BTW...I'm not going to post my home coords on the forum...but the channel ops can contact me for further information.
  10. Would it be possible to configure multiple "Home" locations from within the GeoCaching website. I live in Mobile, AL and have family and friends up in Gadsden. When I am at home I want the site to show me a list of "nearest" caches to where I am. When I'm up visiting friends I want to be able to do the same thing...but don't want to have to enter the LatLon every time for my parent's house or my friends' houses. I would like to be able to just select it on the website and say "I am here". Is this a possibility?
