I thought when I chose to ignore the forum post of this fellow with the initials of TC that I would be free of looking at his caustic posts but each time someone quotes one of his silly replies then I am subjected to his idiotic crap all over again. Please everyone, for the sake of humanity, don't quote TC's post in the forum. He is best forgotten by all. Thank you for your cooperation in making this a better world.
What makes you think that nobody has done that? Do you call the psychic hotline before you post? If you do you should get your money back because this weekend I talked to a volunteer that has done exactly that. So why don't you take the multiple hints you have been given in this thread and go spend time in your own local thread? We don't appreciate or need your constant needling because this whole situation is a real bummer for all of us.I get the impression that you people think that ABDSP needs the help of geocachers in order to maintain a reasonably trash free park. Is that impression correct?
Not at all. It would be more accurate to say that since ABDSP has a trash problem they can use the help of geocachers to help keep it clean. Most parks don't have a crew like Disneland whos job it is to jump out and sweep up each individual gum wrapper as fast as it hits the ground.
I challenge you or anyone else to attend the next meeting of ABDSP's volunteer goup and explain that to them.
Talk in here is both easy and cheap.

Not Geocaching related but my wife and I both have Verizon Wireless Cell phones and have been bombarded with emails from a gambling website. Since I turned my cell phone on at 3:30pm, I have probably received 25 of the same email and her phone has just a little different email but from the same gambling website. What a pain in the a**.

Today was milestone #35 for me.
35 years old... no (gonna be 59 soon)
35 caches found... no (I have 253)
35 hides... no (I ain't got that many...yet)
Today is 35 years of being married to the same gal!
She (Beverly) was 19,I was 23. At the time her doctor gave her 5 years to live. I guess she proved them wrong!!! Bev will probably outlive me (I'm real close ta 59)
Well....anyhow...I'm drinkin ta her today fer puttin up with me fer this long!!!!

As long as I have been camping in Anza Borrego (about 20 years), that has not been allowed inside the State Park. There are areas just outside the park where you can probably do that legally though.In the past I would create my own fire circle with rocks from around the camping area.Correct
Rock circles = Prohibitied in ABDSP
Must be in metal containers, like an old 50 gallon drum, or an old keg with the top chopped off.
The inside of a washing machine makes a great fire pit. Easily hauled in the back of your pick-up and contains fire very well. I think it is metal with a concrete type outer shell.

Actually they do. Click on "My Controls" on the top right. Then click on "Manage Ignored Users" towards the bottom of the left side. I think it's time to use it again....too bad they don't have an "Ignore" button for the forums...Thanks for the tip on this one. Always nice to rid yourself a constant annoyance. I have just exercised my control.

Darn, I forgot to get in on this congratulations thing again. Congrats to Lulu499 on her 1000th find and looking back, I also need to congratulate the KWVERS! and Jahoadi and John on those 7000 finds per couple. Great job to all and many more wonderful cache experiences to all.

Negotiations with Government Employees (Civil Servants) is fruitless. They do not respond to common sense arguments or logic. Civil Servants ONLY respond to political pressure. Discussions should be with Elected Officials.
I hope that MissJenn is aware of that.

I remember that a geocacher got fined almost 200 bucks for getting caught off trail in MTRP a couple of years ago. A little constructive advice shouldn't have caused that kind of reaction.My email to him about the caches that were quite a distance off the trail in the area recovering from the fire was diplomatic. In fact, the first sentence commended him for his enthusiasm. I mentioned the "guideline" for caches in MTRP about having caches close to the trial, and then mentioned what happened out in ABDSP.After he responded with a very curt email, I sent an apology, stating I had not meant my email to be taken as criticism, but if it sounded that way, I was sorry.
I had no idea he would react in such a way, nor "call me out" when I did not intend my email to be anything other than informative.

Currently no such rules apply for the San Miguel/Sweetwater area and there are multiple caches off the trails in that area. I know as some of them are mine. From what I have been hearing lately that could be changing soon. No caches or closer to trail caches. Since this is a National Wildlife Refuge land then I think the rules will be changed so that there is minimal impact on Wildlife. I love seeing the wildlife out in the area but don't mind seeing the occassional fake cactus, ammo can in the rocks or a small containter hanging in a bush.

I feel the same way. He'd be wise to pick up a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People and read it because he rubs a lot of people the wrong way in the forums. Right or wrong if you have an abrasive delivery nobody is going to listen to you.

I think you missed the point. Muggle children of muggle campers and hikers could easily mess with rock piles/other historical sites because they don't know any better. However, geocachers would be less likely to mess with these sites because we follow the park's geocaching guidelines, which help to educate our community. It's not foolproof but it's a lot better than what Joe-Public has, which is nothing. I also disagree with just using common sense. Common sense would never tell you that a pile of rusty old cans was a historic site. That is something that has to be learned. A geocache could actually be used as a vehicle to educate people and enhance visiting these historic sites. However, I think the archaelogists/rangers fear that telling people about these sites would cause some people to run out and grab a rusty can for their coffee table. So they would prefer that nobody even know about these sites to help preserve them. But if people can't enjoy those sites then what's the point?

I sure as heck tell you this, after having read this garbage, if I was the decider, the time period for historic preservation would not be 50 years, it would be 50 minutes.

The geocache the previous post refers to, "It's in the can..." was placed within a railroad-related historic can scatter. A historic site, dating back 50+ years.
Without public education, signs, etc. how is a layperson to know the differnece between a pile of old cans, stacked rocks, water pond, indentations in a rock, etc that are historic/sensitive and those that aren't. Keeping them secret just leaves it up to an uneducated individual to make that decision for themselvs. Geocacher or not, some 'do gooder' (like my daughters an me) would come along and find this cans and think garbage and 'clean it up' thinking I'm doing a good thing, when we'd actually be commiting a crime by altering an historic artifact.
I stopped my girls before they dismanted a carn the last time we were out hiking in the backcountry (no where near a geocache). They thought some people had built it as a joke and wanted to return the area to a more 'natural' look. I have no idea if it was native american built or not. From my professional geologic eye I could just tell they didn't get that way naturally.
No, I haven't missed any point. Historic preservation has been no particular problem in this country or ABDSP. This is true now as it has been for hundreds of years. In fact historic preservation seems to have been carried on relatively well prior to the word geocache being uttered for the first time.
When I first saw those large cans in the setting where they were located, and their obvious age, I and even you knew that those were no insignificant pile of trash needing the special attention of a CITO to take care of.
You and about 15 others need to get over yourselves and show a significantly more mature and responsible attitude with regard to these issues.
I enjoy goecaching as much or more than the next guy. I have however somehow managed avoid it affecting my ability to reason and behave as a responsible adult. Historic locations are preserved for everyone to enjoy and that has been being successfully carried on in this country for decade after decade.
These fantastic contrived outcomes exist only in your self-serving mind's eye and nowhere else.

My little brother just came back from Iraq after a 4 year tour. He is safe and sound and doesn't have to go back. He is in town for a couple of weeks and I am going to take him out hiking/geocaching this Sunday and I need a good place to go. It needs to be dog friendly and I am looking for a really cool place to hike, preferably with canyons ect..... Any place withing about 100miles of san diego/temecula will do nicely. Any suggestions?
Certainly glad to hear that your brother made it back safely after a 4 year tour. My son only served 1 year and I was happy as hell that he made it back without a scratch and his kids didn't have to grow up fatherless. Please thank your brother for us for his service. Thanks.

I realize that there is a forum for Garage sale but I wanted to post this here to see if anyone was interested. I was at Walmart yesterday and picked up a Magellan Explorist 500 on clearance for 74 dollars plus tax which made the total $79.74 out the door. I am looking to pick up a quick 26 cents profit so I will sell it to any San Diego area cacher that wants it for $80. I prefer to just meet somewhere and make the transaction so I don't have to wrap and mail it. If anyone is interested then let me know. I live in Spring Valley.

I will admit that, in the back of my mind, I had some hesitation going after a new cache by a new hider. I was in the Lagunas a couple of weeks ago and DNF'ed The The Remote Rossiter Cache. It's the first hide for that cacher, and it appears his coords are off; another cacher DNF'ed.
I see the coords were updated yesterday; only 6058.3 feet off the original coords!
Yes 6058.3 feet but only one number was off so that ain't bad is it.

As of 20:10 12/22/07 we have completed all active Traditional caches in our 10 mile radius! We knew we were close yesterday so Mr. Kwver completed a few caches in the Southbay....Today was the day! We woke up early and returned to Sweetwater Resevoir to get a Lostguy and Bradybunch boys cache...Then it was off to a puzzle cache to complete another goal of 200 puzzles by the end of the year! We finished up the last Sweetwater Resevoir cache and headed over to Lake Murray to get 2 more...We called Jodi and she let us know that another cache had just posted and she thought that it may be within our 10 mile radius. I didn't think it was so I gave it a 50% try and had to drive back to Grossmont Center from Chula Vista to reach our goal. I called Mrs. Kwver with shouts of joy!!! As she began to post our victory she noticed that another cache had just posted 1.8 miles from home called "Kwvers Tea Party!" Fortunately Tombmaker was there and made the find...Two more caches were then posted and I had to go home to get a second wind. We sat around kinda defeated knowing that the two remaining caches were by Unknown2You...We went for it anyway and now have the goal complete...Just had to make it official...now if we could only catch up with J&J!

If this guy is catching 45-50 trout everytime he goes fishing there are probably thousands of trout in that lake!Just a general whine because I am terrible at math and would like to know if anyone out there can help me with a Math problem and then tell me how they arrived at the answer. I guy goes to a lake and catches 45 trout, tags them and then releases them back in the lake. The next day he goes to the lake and catches 50 trout of which 18 of them are the tagged trout. What is the estimate of the total number of trout in the lake? Any help would be appreciated.My estimate is that there are 77 trout in the lake.
32 (of the 77) were dropped into the lake in the middle of the night by space aliens (and that's why they weren't caught yesterday.)
27 (of the 77) are dead due to being handled during the tagging process (and that's why they weren't caught today.)
Wish I would have caught the name of the lake. I'm sure it's one of those pay as you go places.
Don't know if it had hatchery in the name but I think the fishermans name was Alpers.

OK, here it is for real.
All of this assumes that there was no interference by space aliens or the Department of Fisheries and assumes no previously tagged fish in the pond, that no fish hatched in the middle of the night, that no fish ate any other fish and that Fisnjack was not in the area.
On the second day, 36% (18 out of 50) of a random sample of the fish in the pond had tags. Thus, we can assume that the percentage of fish in the pond with tags is ~36%. On the first day, 45 fish were caught and tagged. Thus we know that 45 is 36% of the total number of fish in the pond.
45 is 36% of 125 fish.
Makes sense to me and that's the answer my son's girlfriend came up with also but I didn't believe it. Thank for the assist.

While hiking in MTRP today, I came across a flyer on one of the kiosks and it said that they sell wooden hiking sticks at the visitors center during the holidays. Not sure about the rest of the year. It stated that they have sticks made from Hickory, Sassafras, Dogwood, Hawthorn and Sumac. Prices start at 16 dollars and they have sizes for children up to the tallest adults.
