  1. Wow, time has flown by and now we are 2 weeks from our trip to Portugal!!! We will be spending one week in Estremoz (and exploring the surrounding areas and the second week in Cascais. This is going to be so much fun! I remember at one point seeing a cache that was in an area of menirs, does anyone know of one?
  2. Wow, I am so glad I checked this part of the forums out! We are planning a trip to Portugal in 2011. We are learning to speak Portuguese now (Boa noite!). I will definitely be back when it gets closer for cache suggestions.
  3. But boy, they knew exactly what group to target for the thrill of a hunt. There are two parts, the book signings people can go to get a clue for something else but there is also a separate clue that has nothing to do with his book signing. For example, he was in WA state but the "cache" ( and he is calling them caches, just not geocaches) was in Cincinnati. It seems pretty cool to me.
  4. Well I am thinking it is "on hold" for publishing since there is construction going on there. Maybe the cache owner placed it before the construction got started? I couldn't even access the coords unless I translated them wrong but I did a google street view and it shows the same place.
  5. Could be the puzzle but not the multi as the multi states it is a virtual cache, no container. Tried the puzzle. Its not the puzzle solution but the container described, aside from the size, is spot on. Also, none of those items described in the logs match what I found inside. Feels like we are getting closer! Thanks for the help so far. You're right rpkincer, it isn't our puzzle cache. I am betting it either hasn't been published yet or was not approved for some reason. Maybe we'll run over there today and see if we can figure it out. The names in the log are not local cachers to my knowledge so it must have been stumbled across like you said.
  6. I think you are right TotemLake, I checked and I was on 1.0.1...I seem to recall this was an issue before as well
  7. I can't even get the pop-up to load today because my computer hates IE8. I use DeLorme's Cache Register and load the pocket queries. It makes life easier. If you only want a few at a time, try the Firefox browser, it supports the DeLorme plug in as well.
  8. You don't have to but you can I suppose. Generally folks don't mark the SWAG but they do leave "sig" items like wooden nickels and pathtags with their caching name and home area.
  9. A TB is a "travel bug" which is a "dog tag" attached to something and meant to travel from cache to cache. TB drop is a note someone leaves letting folks know that they put a travel bug in the cache (TB dip means they put it in and took it right back out, usually to gain mileage on the TB) Trade is the stuff we leave in caches to trade for something else, also known as SWAG (Stuff We All Get). Hope this helps. Happy caching!
  10. We take Purell or the generic equiv. with us and it seems to work. Anyone have any pros or cons to this? I've never reacted to PI, but I don't know if this is because of the Purell or that I still have immunity to it.
  11. At our last event, one of our veteran cachers had us do an experiment regarding this issue. He gave us a set of coords and a survey flag marker. When we thought we had GZ, we marked the spot. There were all different GPSr's there; Delorme, all flavors of Garmin (including a Nuvi) and a few others I believe. We all hit in about a 10-15 foot circle. Not sure what that means except that there is no real "ground zero", maybe more like a "ground 15"
  12. Where did you get it for the Nokia E71? I've looked at the Nokia app store (Ovi Store) and I can't find it there.
  13. There is a forum thread here that may help you keep them in circulation longer (and is an entertaining read) but bottom line is that once you let them go, they are on their own. I think sometimes people forget they have them, lose them, drop out of caching, etc. We have been lucky so far, but we don't send any out that we aren't ready to have go MIA.
  14. It's kinda sad they think that is a fun or worthwhile thing to do. I think if it were me I would just delete the finds off my cache and in the note let them know that you have to sign the log to get the find. They are new and maybe they just don't get it (or they do get it and are just really bad at cheating ) . Other than that, I'd let it go, they will get called out eventually. As far as reporting them, I think the only way to do it would be contact Groundspeak or your local reviewer.
  15. You're welcome! Please let me know if you get it made into a Pathtag (or if you need help getting it into a Pathtag template) ... I'd like to get a few tags if you do. You got it! I think this one will be perfect for a pathtag!
  16. It looks very cool! Thanks for the efforts from both of you. I love what I am seeing! Sorry about not responding earlier, was on vacation and had no internet.
  17. My understanding is that just because you pay a fee to get in, this does not make it a "commercial" cache. We have done a few that were in parks that required an entrance fee, which is why there is an attribute for this ($). I think the commercial caches would be something like Joe Blow places a cache and says "come to Cap'n Joe Blow's charter service and buy a boat ride to the cache location" It is placed with the intent of generating commercial gain as stated in the guideline.
  18. Wow, Hofy, thanks for the time and effort you went through to post all of that!
  19. Awesome! Thanks, that will make and awesome pathtag and avatar! I haven't been around in quite a while, but had some free time at work this morning and was browsing the forums. You all are doing a great job in here, hope you don't mind me taking a stab at this one...
  20. Thanks CP, copy that loud and clear
  21. The upgrade coupon says that you need to include your retail store receipt. I bought from Amazon, is the print out going to work? I did not save the paperwork that came in the Amazon box so I would have to print it from their site. What do y'all think?
  22. Anyone have time/energy to take a crack at ours? We like the basic concept, just want a little more pizazz. The basics of it are we are both Cancer hence the moon, both women hence the female symbol and then we added the compass points. Would love something we could make a pathtag out of.
  23. Not yet (knocks on wood) but I am sure my time is coming!
  24. I love algebra (said in my best non-geek voice) Too bad we aren't closer to NY. We have asked for hints a few times from the CO ( after a DNF was posted) but other than that, not yet.
