  1. I guess I am, the top night cacher for Abuquerque New Mexico I sleep days and work nights. Caching at night has gotten me more FTF"s,since I can't compete with the power FTF'er's during the day. Since I started,(2003) I have had only three run ins with LEO'S. All have been positive encounters. I carry with me a Hydrastorm (Predator) backpack sans the water bladder. A petzl headlamp. (red filter for night vision) Good for 180 hours on 3 aaa's http://www.rei.com/product/709063 A Surefire G2 Nitrolon flashlight http://www.surefire.com/G2-Nitrolon With a red filter. Lens flips up when you want bright light. http://www.surefire.com/FM35-Red-Filter Pens, pencils, spare batteries,a swiss army knife w/ tweezers for those pesky nano's,and my cell phone. I have my (PDA) HP Ipaq in an Otterbox. http://www.otterbox.com/handheld-pda-cases/ Oh and a pound of common sense. I use my gut feelings about an area before I venture forth. I have had many daytime caching partners, but I wish I could find someone to cache with me at night. That, however hasn't deterred me.
  2. My Legend gave me some grief a while back. I had to bend the battery compartment tabs back out to get mine to work. Also if you have any tarnish(Haven forbid leaky battery corrosion) stop it with baking soda, then clean up the contacts with a pencil eraser.
  3. Just wondering, did you unzip cachemate after you downloaded it?
  4. With regards to the last post . I just ordered a case from otterbox .com (hard-Think Pelican cases)$ 49.99 Looks like the prefect hard case for my Tunsten E-2 All of their cases have a hinged window, which use can lift up and use your Palm,Ipaq, or Pc tablet.through a plastic membrane. Now I can take my Palm hiking! Cool Beans!
  5. I did a cache a while back that was hanging in a tree. Hidden on the back side of the tree was the string to lower the cache to the ground.
  6. England! What do you expect from a country that has a total ban on firearms? Oh yeah , an increase in crime! Doh! But a enough of that. You DO go caching with your children? You DO determine what they it is they trade for? I would be happy to find a Swiss Army Knife in a cache- instead of golf tees, golf balls, or mardi gras beads. Just a reply to Mopar's Nottinham's police rules. (England) Down with the British,Up with the Americans! Just my 0.02 cents worth.
  7. No one has asked jeep what they wanted? try emailing JEEP 4X4 owner profile on the T.B. pages- see what kind of response you get.....nothing! No one is there to answer your questions. I tried to get my questions anwsered four months ago. NOTHING! Maybe this should be answered by Jeremy and TPTB.
  8. I have had a few FTFs and resented the old retired poops who regularly got FTF 's in my area. Then, I had an an epiphany, these where the same persons to have the spare time to place a lot of the caches in my area I had an enjoyed. DOH!
  9. DARN those Frenchies for having a different word for everything! Do a Google for "camoflaged, and Camouflaged" the correct spelling. This is what happens , when the Roman empire invades , and conquers your lands, which did NOT happen to Germania.(My People) The Romans never got far beyond the RHENUS (the Rhine) but did happen to my Angle, Pict. and to my Scotti, decendents. (Hispania and and Gaul as,well.) (lOSERS!) I am NOW going to sue for the Roman invasion of my Angle ancesters,(Italia) the invasion of the Saxons ( Germans) and those frog Bast@#&%) the Normans. , for destroying My culture, Anglia!)
  10. To "Dead White Man's" question I would say he comments were too harsh. I would have felt it was an insult and attack on what to all of us is just a big kids game. I have said this before, sometimes I'm after a P&G (for stats) and sometimes on a hike, it's the OOHHHSSS! and AAAHHHSSS!!. I will never attack another Geocacher for placing a cache.( lame or not) To me the only time it's lame, is when I don't find it. (my fault ,not the placers) To be truthfull I have had more trouble finding micros in parks than a .50 Cal ammo can in the boonies. And since I have not placed any, and others have only placed a few, I would not too quick too judge the efforts of others, D.P.M. or not.
  11. Thanks for the advice, I looked at a postage stamp park tonight, and first thought cache,(one)then thought one in the folage, then one in the rafters of the sun shade. |Thanks , Eric
  12. Just wondering if you can change a single to a multi. ,after you have placed it and been approved? Thanks; Eric
  13. I don't always log dnf's, because I don't want to take up more space on the servers. I usually make the find in two, three times tops. If there are a number of dnf's in a row then maybe that the cache has gone missing. I used to download a bunch of loc. files in small tight cluster and run out the door without reading the logs, or the hints. This worked for me ok, but sometimes I shot myself in the foot. Now,I print out the printer friendly version of the cache page .
  14. I have found knifes (cheap chinese crap) and matches in caches, and I think it's the parents who should decide what gets traded with their kids. DUH! (you do go caching with your kids right?) Truth is, I'd like to see some better swag in caches, besides golf balls and Mardi Gras beads!
  15. I give thumbs up to anyone who places a cache. Iv'e seen lame urban caches, and done hikes to caches that were ohhs and haas. sometimes I'm only looking for park and grapes. (you know for the stats.) I won't look down at anyone for trying to do what I have yet to do. My two cents.
  16. Don't like Mapquest never have. I like microsoft's MapPoint, http://mappoint.msn.com/(rlbmw02cwj1qob2ui3dt5455)/home.aspx or Maps on Us. http://mapsonus.switchboard.com/index.cgi/...329a.2bf3.9/c=7 But then again, I now have a Garmin V with Mapsource. Auto routing with turn by turn directions makes life SO good!
  17. When you have a GPSr with auto routing and Mapsourse software and a dense urban area it's easy to do a bunch of caches in a day. (Garmin V) Vacation trips are great ways to bag a bunch too. I've done 9 in a day in the boonies with long drives leading to each cache, and I didn't start until late in the day.(4x4 all the way) I've also seen cachers who are retired who have more time on their hands to cache (hunt) and place caches and you know what? Thank god there are are people like that who have the time to make this sport what it is. (these are some of the guys with hugh stats) I'm not a cache machine, but I can understand what drives so many of us. Ive logged some caches with hardly anything more then TNLNSL TFTC. Sometimes the the cache, or the location is lame ,or I'm tired when I sit at the computer that i can't think of any thing to say. Sometime I cache for just the stats, and somtimes the hunt takes me to a new place Iv'e never been to before.(the ohhhs and haass) A lot of the time the swag is so lame I do'nt feel like bothering to trade for McToys, golfballs,or packs of playing cards, or Mardi Gra beads. just my two cents worth.
  18. Well in the desert southwest I did a cache in Arizona that had a cow pattie over it. In our climate a cow floppie doesn't decay like it would say in Washington state. I grew up around horses and cattle and it does'nt bother me to pick up a dry cow floppie, after all the dry product is pretty much the same as it was before it went through the beastie.( moist is a different matter) Besides , it just cracked me up to see the placer had a sense of humor. If you are interested the cache name is Arrowrock and waypoint is; CG629F My only other thought is to varnish or shallic the scat.
  19. Q.Most useful knife in the world? A. Victorinox ; Tinker! But I also carry a spyderco clipit . Robert a. Heinlein"There is not a more dangerous creature on the planet then a scared human being with a knife"
  20. I Want to start placing some caches around albuquerque N.M. . Should I ask to speak with a Public Relations Officer?
