  1. Adremi (from the Czech Republic) several others have been "Discovering" several of my TB's... 01/15/2015 adremi discovered it Díky za ukázku, viděno na netu. Thanks for the show, seen on the net. These TB's have been missing for many years and have been set as Missing. I asked Groundspeak to delete the TB's but they replied "We do not delete trackables from the system." I'm tired of deleting the false finds of unscrupulous players. Does anyone have any suggestions onhow to stop this practice? It seems my only option is to delete my GC account, change the password and start using OpenCaching.
  2. Michelle, The 2006 Cache In Trash Out Geocoin, and Geocaching The Appalachain VIRGINIA geocoin are yours. I'll e-mail you privately. Kevin
  3. I need to sell some of my Geocoins and wanted to offer them to cachers who would appreciate them, rather than selling them on eBay. On eBay, similar coins start at $7 and up. The unique ones go for a lot more. You can view all of my coins here: http://tinyurl.com/cyp46eb. All coins are in excellent condition and come in their original plastic case. They will be mailed in a protective padded envelope at a USPS First Class rate of $2 within the USA. They are activated and ownership will be transferred to you. Several are very unique, of limited productions, and very collectible. You'll never see some of these for sale again! First post to claim each coin gets it. Good Luck and thank you! 2006 Cache In Trash Out Geocoin - $5 Gold Geocaching Railroad Ranger216 Boxcar Geocoin - $10 Geocaching The Appalachain VIRGINIA geocoin - $5 Climbing & Caching Bronze Geocoin - $10 Blind Acorn Geocoin - $10
  4. Thanks to this Forum, Eric at USA Geocoins did activate teh Fallen Hero coins I had purchased. The delay may have been due to my many e-mails being filtered out by a spam filter. But thanks to this forum and other geocachers, the issue was quickly resolved. Thank you very much USA Geocoins for a wonderful coin series!
  5. I purchased several Fallen Hero geocoins from USA Geocoins several months ago. It's a great idea for a geocoin, honoring our military members who gave their lives for our country (http://www.usageocoins.com/fallensoldiers.htm). The coins are "owned" by the company and therefore they activate the coins. Unfortunately, they haven't activated three of my coins and haven't respond to my e-mails. So I have three coins that cannot be tracked to activated. It's very frustrating. <small edit and initial reaction removed by moderator at the OP's request - all's well in geocoin land>
  6. I totally agree!! Very simply well said! You should have an admin position at Groundspeak!
  7. But visiting a historic or interesting location doesn't give me a "Find". I discover many types of "containers" when hiking but none of them are official geocaches, so I can't log "Picked up a 2 liter Coke bottle in the woods. TFTC!" and get a Find for it. I agree with you that there are countless historical / educational locations out there, but the majority of people are unaware of them. I live in Richmond Virginia, the Capital of the Confederacy, the site of many important Revolutionary War events, and home to famous individuals such as Edgar Allan Poe. Yet the majority of locals (and none of the visitors) are aware of the many awe-inspiring locations, which could be highlighted as Virtual geocaches. Virtuals benefit the geocacher (they are taken to and made aware of an extraordinary location which cannot support a physical cache), benefit GC.com (Virtuals are unique to GC.com, and therefore gives it an edge over the competition), and benefit localities (they bring local and visitor geocachers to their historical / educational tourist attractions). Geocaching is officially sanctioned in Virginia, mostly because of Virtuals. The Virginia Department of Tourism (http://www.virginia.org/site/features.asp?FeatureID=193), the Official Tourism Website of the Commonwealth of Virginia, supports and encourages Geocaching in Virginia. Virginia Tourism wholeheartedly welcomed Virtual caches, as a way to highlight Virginia’s history and heritage. From the first permanent English settlement of Jamestown in 1607 through the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, Virginia was where the nation originated. And this provides A LOT of potentially incredible Virtual caches, where otherwise, a physical cache could not be placed. I agree that dead animals, tennis balls, manhole covers and even wadded up grass are NOT suitable cache locations. It sounds as if you have a lot of unimaginative, "it's all about the numbers" geocachers. I agree every plaque doesn't qualify as a Virtual. GC.com defined Virtuals as "although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.". (This excludes manhole covers ). SO I stick by my point that it was a bad decision to put a freeze on Virtual geocaches. To me, it's the first sign of many other restrictive components that will be the downfall of Geocaching.com.
  8. Several of my caches had background music, in order to provide a clue, entertain, or even as the means to solve a puzzle cache. The music file (typically WAV or MP3) was hosted on another site and linked to through HTML embedding code. But recently, GC.com has been blocking any HTML scripting, including background music. When I inquired, their response was:"For security reasons, any scripting on pages is now being stripped." This limits the creativity of geocachers and their cache page, and can even void the relevancy of a cache page! For example, if you had a Morse code Puzzle cache, which played the Morse code on the cache page, it would no longer be allowed. The GC.com Administration had not posted any information about this new policy, and never informed geocachers that it was going to occur. So I ask: Is it really necessary to block an embedded music file?
  9. Virtual caches are superior to Waymarks on many levels, but especiallly the fact that visiting a Virtual counted as a "Find". IMHO, Waymarks are a waste of computer resources. I have visited a few Waymarks and have even created my own. In fact, one of my caches (waypoint: GCPYH9) is also a Waymark (WaymarkCode: WMQR ) . There have been 80 logged geocache visits, but ONLY 7 Waymark logged visits. I think this speaks volumes about Waymarking. Eighty geocachers have visited a location that is clearly marked as both a Microcache AND Waymark, and 91% of them choose to ignore the Waymark. Waymarks are in the same catagory as Navicaching, Buxley's Waypoint, GeoDashing, or TerraCaching. They are not as popular as Geocaching.com for many reasons, but IMO, the main reason is no cache count or cool icons. This is what sets GC.com apart. Waymarks were GC.com's answer to Virtuals but Waymarks do not add to your stats. So why bother? By doing away with Virtuals (which are some on the BEST "caches" I have found), and the like, GC.com is limiting the creative ability of their members, limiting potential historical / educational/ interesting "caches", and ultimately limiting their marketability.
  10. Absolutely! I think this is desperately needed. "Famous graves" can be in well known or out of the way cemeteries. The tombstone or memorial is usually very interesting. I agree with the others that finding a famous grave is entertaining, educational and often enlightening!
  11. IMHO, the icons are nice, but I prefer 9key's Selector much more. There are more icons from which to choose, and the icons available are all very applicable to geocaching. For example, how many caches are there that require Scuba gear (and its very own icon)? Having a Book Crossing icon , Bring a Flashlight icon or Wheelchair Access icon is much more relevant and useful. I also like the Selector's parking icon, as it allows you to give coordinates for parking.
  12. Wow! Thanks to everyone for your input, suggestions, logic, and math (it IS 36 possible combinations; that will teach me to do math math on my fingers)! It has been archived with no plans to rebirth it, except for the idea of doing it as a one-time event cache, with the person finding the camouflaged container getting to keep it! I love that idea! Geocachers are the best!!
  13. I apologize this so long, but I want to explain a novel cache idea I created that was rejected by Groundspeak. They suggested I post a message to see what the Geocaching community thinks. If the majority believes that it should be posted, then Groundspeak administrators and approvers may review the listing and the cache may be unarchived. Here is the cache idea: "This is a new game I have invented for those of us who have found all of the caches in the area, but still can't get enough. Dyslexia:The Game is the next stage in Geocaching's evolution. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you ever manually entered coordinates, only to later discover you entered them incorrectly and had been searching in vain?! Uh...me either...but I have heard of this happening to other neophytes. Whether you call it "Fat Finger Syndrome", "Predementia Geocachitus" or "Dyslexia", it can lead to unnecessary frustration. Now you have the chance to turn it around and frustrate someone else! How to Play The above coordinates are for the middle of Deep Run Park in Western Henrico County. The cache is hidden within the park boundaries, but not at the above coordinates (well, maybe it is...keep reading!) The degrees and minutes will always be the same (i.e. North 37° 37 West 077° 35) but the seconds will change each time the cache is found. How they change is up to the person who finds the cache! For example, the North coordinates are 37° 37.546. Those who suffer with Dyslexia often reverse or transpose numbers. Instead of 37° 37.536, they might record 37° 37.645, or 37° 37.564. With 3 digits in the North second coordinates and 3 digits in the West second coordinates that could be transposed, the number of possible locations could be endless (not really, but I'll let you do the statistical calculations) The Rules 1) The North second coordinates can be transposed in any order, as can the West second coordinates, BUT the North coord numbers must stay together, as do the West numbers. For example, if the North numbers were 12.345 and West numbers were 67.890, you can mingle the North numbers any way you'd like (12.543, 12.435, etc) but you can't put the West numbers in place of the North numbers (ie North coord numbers cannot be 67.890!) 2) You can transpose the North second numbers, or the West second numbers, or both at the same time! 3) Once you find the cache, sign the log book and record the current coordinates. Trade items are welcomed but not mandatory. 4) Move the cache to another location within the park using a new sequence of the same numbers.(See Rule #1) 5) The cache must remain out in the open. It is a small (3 1/2 inch diameter) Gatorade container that has been camouflaged as a rock (See photo) in order to protect it from muggles. It should be easy to see, once you find the location. No fair hiding it under sticks, leaves, or logs. Keep it on the ground. Hiding it among other rocks is allowed (but nasty). 6) You can only log one Find; all others should be logged as Notes. 7) You may search for it as often as you'd like! 8) This is an evolving game, so new rules may be added. Once everyone is comfortable with the rules, I may throw minutes AND seconds into the mix, or even move the container to a larger park. How To Win The number of days the cache remains unfound will be tallied. There will be Awards for: The Most Finds Longest Hide (location that goes the longest undiscoverd) Quickest Find (location found the quickest) The Geocacher's name will appear under the award title, until they are dethroned by another player! " Administration wrote " I am sorry, but the current guidelines do not support caches that move in anyway." I understand Groundspeak's need to deny traveling caches and I agree with the policy to not approve them. This cache is not a traveling cache, as it will remain within a specific area at all times, and can be easily found by starting at the listed coordinates. Traveling caches have an infinite number of possible hiding spots. This cache has a limited and finite number of locations, all accessible within walking distance from where the cacher starts his search (at the listed coordinates). Think of this cache as a multi-cache, with 54 locations. One of the reasons behind creating this cache was the fact that most Geocachers in the Richmond Virginia have found all of the caches in our area. Most fans and supporters of Geocaching now have to drive hours away in order to find a cache. All of the "good" locations currently have caches, and now people are forced to place caches in questionable, uncomfortable and illegal places. Many of the recent caches approved in Richmond are on private property or heavily congested areas. This cache may be groundbreaking, because it will allow those who have found all of the caches in the area (but still want to enjoy Geocaching on a frequent basis) to search for a cache. The benefits of this type of cache are it is always available but possibly never in the same place twice, although it IS in the same general area. This cache does meet the guidelines of Cache Permanence. Also, it allows people to better understand their GPSr, how GPS works, and will make them better Geocachers! While there is one other cache in this same park, my Dyslexia cache will in no way interfere with this cache, because the Dyslexia cache container is known to the searcher and will be sitting out in the open. It is a camouflaged cache, shaped as a rock that I created out of fiberglass (Bondo), so it cannot be discovered by muggles. I posted a photo of it on the web page, in order to make finding it easy for Geocachers. Also, I will add to the rules that certain areas of the park will offlimits (like the rest rooms, or any maintenance equipment storage areas). The reviewer's initial concern was "the problem with the cache is that each and every time the cache needs moving, 2 things will need to be done: 1. You will have to ARCHIVE the cache. 2. I will have to change the coordinates" But if you read the guidelines for this cache, you will see this is not the case. Again, think of this cache as a multi-cache, with 54 locations. The seeker knows the parameters of the cache coordinates, and that only the second coordinates can change. The rules state that any potential combination can only be correct if the coordinates are within the park, and not in any off limit areas. A large park is a perfect location for this cache, since it keeps people from sensitive areas (especially in our terrorist suspect world), and allows them to enjoy the full range of the park. _________________________________ So what do YOU think? I would like to give this a chance, in order to allow Geocachers to maintain their interest and support (including monetary) of the sport. Otherwise, people will get bored, and lose interest if the only caches they can find are while on vacation or while traveling long distances. Geocaching is an excellent family activity, and helps promote family centered exercise and appreciation of nature. This cache allows families to enjoy a park while Geocaching, keeps children safe (no dangerous or questionable areas to search in), and promotes CITO.
  14. Unfortuantely, I found a pipe bomb durng my CITO at the Larus Park Multicache(http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=ad8b2ec0-f147-4688-aa7b-a9607c58dd7c). I posted a photo of it, along with a golf ball, 9/16th wrench and some trash I collected. Unfortuantely, this newly created park has more trash in it ( from years of teen parties) than could be hauled out in a week by 100 people!
  15. This is already available outside the realm of Geocaching.com. YOu can make your own "Traveler Tags" at http://travelertags.keenpeople.com/index.php?Itemid=1 Users get 5 free tags to start. I have found some of these and the only limitation is your imagination...
  16. That is what the "Print Bug Sheet" is for on the owner's TB page. Groundspeak already thought of this and every TB should print out and attach this page.
