  1. I just use an ipad or iPhone, haven't had too many troubles...
  2. No, but I hid one in Tasmania and I got redtag to look after it... I would if someone asked me and it wasn't too far away (more than 1.5 hrs)
  3. I doubt this rule will change for a long, long, time. It is on of the foundation blocks of geocaching... Plus, saturation is pretty good how it is...
  4. This is cool, Thanks for the tutorial link.. Am thinking of doing one of these if I ever get around to it...
  5. You can go and create a pocket query of the area you will be searching for caches in, and select the 'Night Cache' attribute in the 'Attributes to Include' section... This is the way I would do it...
  6. If you guys think there isn't a film that is mainly about geocaching and portrays it well, why doesn't someone make one? I'm sure there Ida geocaching filmmaker out there, and lots of geocachers that would be happy to help out as actors and behind the scenes... Someone starts a project like this, and you could have a great movie in 4-5 yrs...
  7. wow... sounds pretty interesting... Maybe ill go there next year? Actually does sound really cool and intriguing... People have been looking at it since 2010, and Mr Fenn is very much a trickster, according to what i've read. I wonder who will find it?
  8. very nice... i love this idea, but i dont think mine could ever be as good... Oh well, still very nice and interesting...
  9. plus, it's better that someonee who knows what they're doing takes it, rather than the next finder coming and taking it and it getting lost...
  10. ouch... I suppose you have to feel sorry for people that feel the need to shoot someone just for being on their property...
  11. The app does not control how much power the GPS chipset in the device consumes. Have you tried measuring the discharge rate with another app that uses the location services, like google maps? Whenever i use the built in Maps App(apple native), it does not use nearly as much battery. The maps app uses basically the same as the geocaching app-location services, and internet. My battery does not get consumed SO fat(i.e 15mins) but it does get used much faster than i would expect it to. Apple states that from a full charge you should normally get 10hrs use time... Normally i get about that. Using the geocaching app to find caches, 3-4hrs maxx from 100% to flat as in turns off.
  12. I just thought its not such a hard thing to do... After all, isn't the whole sport of geocaching inseparable from your current location... Many websitees have stuff like this built in to them... for example when i go to 4cast.me (foudn on google) and click get location it gives me current time and weather... When you go to the geocaching.com home page, you can click find nearest geocaches, and it will locate you. It's just a matter of creating a relationship between current location and time and date displayed...
  13. Shouldn't CITO get a mention? Love the letter though and have been looking for something like this...
  14. I care, and it is annoying that on the iphone app there is no way to change the log date. We log all our finds *live* and I have to be careful not to log a find before 9am CET because it would show as the previous day. It can also be a grind to have to get a long day of caching logs submitted before bed (usually in the camper van {RV}) so that the finds for that day are logged for that day I agree, and last night i started a feature suggestion thread asking if there was any interest in gs changing times so that they are your local time. Since Geocaching works with GPS, it cant be that hard for the app or website to determine your location and adjust the date and time accordingly... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=307989 Thanks

  16. I am 16 and have been a member of geocaching since 2008. I geocache mostly with my younger sister(14), but increasingly on my own. I think it is a great way to have clean fun and find out about new places. I am nearing 300 finds and am not thinking of stopping anytime soon. I own several caches and recently hosted an event... I dont think its weird at all... I havent yet made anyone a geocacher, but many people think it is interesting... I dont know if there are many young people(i havent seen that many myself) but if there aren't, they're missing out.. Just thought I'd point out that i am homeschooled and i live in australia, if that makes any difference. People can't see how old i am online... The internet is funny like that
  17. Trust us, they are there just don't come to the forums too often. Mostly because they are busy studying things like punctuation, grammar, etc. I am 16 and have been a member of geocaching since 2008. 18. We are mostly TNLN geocachers, but mainly move tbs when we do move stuff...
  19. I was just wondering If gs could change things around so that when you write a log, hide a cache, etc. it would put your local time as a default. Before I became serious a bout geocaching, I used to just log the cache without paying attention... Now I wish that the logs would have been with the correct date on them for the dates cached stat. Also, it would mean I wouldn't have to change it every time I post the first log for any given day... Any interest or feedback?
  20. Hey, I understand your position and reasoning, and agree with you. People that are experienced enough to log tbs should be able to log tbs in their found it! Log... The only reasons I have written notes to log tbs are these 1) some people will visit a cache multiple times just for tb logging, such as an airport cache or cache close to home. These extra visits will not be on the same day as the original find, but on separate days. because I have already found the cache and just want to give tbs extra KMs and caches visited... For example I recently went to Melbourne. Just before I left, I logged my tbs as visiting a cache. After I arrived in Melbourne, I soon found Tulla Time gc24adg. I went to Tasmania, and I visited my tbs before I left. After i got back, I again visited the tbs in that cache before heading home to qld... 2) to log tbs as visiting or being dropped off in my own caches...
  21. Like I said, I don't (usually) like to be a downer. I realize we were all new once. And normally, I take your advice and don't read the thread, but for some reason I am in the sharing mode tonight, so shared my thought. I have been reading through the forums for a while now and haven't seen anything like it. That's why I thought it would be good to start something like that. Obviously they failed or people missed them, but I personally enjoy reading other people's stories... Sorry, and no offense intended... Condorito
