  1. Im not sure if I found a bug but I cant see any of my archived tracklogs on the map. Anyone else?
  2. I dont see myself rush to buy it for several reasons: - It looks too bulky for hiking. It might be great for ATVing or biking but for me the GPS is used mostly geocaching on foot. - Cost. Now it has a couple features that I like, the charging circuit is good and the 5Meg camera. I wish the 550 had a 5meg camera.
  3. I don't like the idea of virtuals. It makes no sense for their existence at all. If a place can not allow a physical container to be hidden (even a nano??) then the place has no business with geocaching. I dont know why we feel that every single spot of dirt on Earth must have a geocache!
  4. I find it to be extremely of bad taste for some folks just come in here just to blatantly say "Sorry I will stick with Gsak!" Good for you. Can we show some respect for the owner of the software? At least have some decency to try the software and come in here and post your opinion, you know positive feedback and all and then go on with your life! I will certainly give a try to see what the software is all about and thank you for the work put into it, I am sure it will be appreciated by alot of folks even if they decide not to use it.
  5. I also think its bad form. It happens in my area, I once told the person that he shouldnt sign his own caches and the answer I got is that its their cache and he can... I left it at that... Anyway, something that people forget is that numbers bring statut. How many of you will give the same respect to a cacher with 100 finds compared to someone with 10000 finds? So in a way the game is about the numbers. Numbers gets you respect and allow you to climb the geocaching community ladder.
  6. I found to be quite amusing reading all the excuses for not signing the logs and claim a find. Geocaching is a game and everybody can play it however they want it but GC has rules on how to play the game. "What are the rules in Geocaching? 1. If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value. 2. Write about your find in the cache logbook. 3. Log your experience at www.geocaching.com." It cant be any simpler than that. Didnt sign the logbook, its a DNF. If you want to play by your rules then please go play on that new website with the beaver mascot. With this said, I think its time for the responsibility to be shifted to the cache owners. They should be the ones enforcing the rules. Reviewers make sure the cache hiders follow the rules and it should be the hiders that should enforce it to cachers. More often than not, people just hide caches and once they are published they treat them like its no longer their problem. The onus should be on cache owners to make sure the game is played accordingly to the rules and that they do proper maintenance. GC should implement a system that would allow reporting of deadbeat cache owners that could lead among other things to suspension of hiding privileges to him/her.
  7. This doesnt make sense at all. Moorhead got the updates for his 2720's and not the OP? What is the difference here for Garmin to refuse providing the update to the OP as it looks like the hardware is the same? On a side note I cant understand why anyone would side with Garmin on this one! These are the people that allow companies to continue to screw consumers with impunity. A lifetime subscription to updates as long the owner has the unit means exactly that forever under certain conditions that the OP still meets. If Garmin stops doing that they are in breach of contract with the subscriber and subject to penalties. Imagine if it was the other way around, Im pretty sure Garmin would not be so nice. To the OP, dont despair, if Garmin refuses to give you the updates that *YOU* paid for there are other methods out there. One way or the other its Garmin that loses.
  8. I need some clarification on the guidelines concerning fees to attend an event. Theres going to be a local event soon and on the description page it mentions that there is a $5.00 fee to help cover the rental of the room and snacks. Under the guidelines is this acceptable?
  9. I think that is a harsh assessment of a site that has been open for less than three months with no advertising. For whatever reason some folks are feeling threatened by the other site that I find very funny to read. I am actually hoping that it succeeds so I can see the reaction of these folks. LOL
  10. I think people are missing the point of the OP which has a valid point imo. The OP is not putting down the hider in anyway imo, only that he should perhaps slow down hiding so many caches to give a chance for others to hide some as well. My thoughts about this? I see no problem that the individual hides so many caches. If other people want to hide caches then they just have to be faster. But on the other hand, having so many caches in one area just for the sake of filling space turns me off so I wouldnt be happy to have someone dumping caches around me like that but its nothing that I could do about it. Everyone plays the game whatever they like it.
  11. Theres that creepy word again... Anarchy... it really is the end of the world isnt it? Why there has to be caches in parks that obviously are making it explicitly difficult to place them? Isnt the planet big enough for caches? Arent there enough caches around to find?? I'd say boycott them. And why are they making it difficult? Is it perhaps because owners are not careful hidding caches, or is it maybe because finders are not careful either?? Is that also the fault of the other site as well? Myself I would not go thru all the hassle to hide a cache in an unwelcoming place. They dont deserve it. I find it funny that alot of people are all gloom and doom with that other site without realizing that the problems that are being discussed here are already happening here. Instead of all this end of world craziness why not step back and see what the other side is going to do? Right now they have done nothing.
  12. Doesnt that goes against the flow here that claim that the hobby is dead without reviewers? What do we need reviewers for then? Just to make sure we dont put caches in National parks or that the cache is far enough from another one??
  13. Now we are free to put them on active railroad tracks, on school grounds and in National Parks. Gotta love anarchy. Explain this one to me? Where does it say that Geocaching means no caches in active railroads, school grounds and in National Parks? Who made those rules? Why are they the rules that *every* cache has to abide? Why does any other geocaching site have to abide to those rules? All this talk about reviewers and rules and guidelines and stuff makes me wonder who decided that Groundspeak rules are to be enforced by everybody and if a competitor decides to have (or not) rules then it automatically has to be buried to the ground??
  14. It seems that one of the main complaints about the new site is the reviewing part or lack off. It seems that the cachers will be the reviewers. As anyone noticed the awesomeness rating? I think its there for a reason, if enough people vote negatively on the cache it will be avoided and thats fine by me. I have gone after caches that have been approved and once on site I just shake my head on why it was approved by anyone but it has so that is nothing that isnt happening here already.
  15. http://www.opencaching.com/#geocache/OXZTY0P Hmmm I dont think its going to work because the other cache is not listed on OC... For the test to work the two caches need to be posted on OC... I dont think OC can come into GC and see whats going on right?
  16. I have the 255W and I am looking at replacing it, I've had enough of it, it has too many problems to be enjoyable and it is not the best model for geocaching. As for your question, the only way you are going to get the distance remaining is by clicking on the speed icon or by clicking on top of the map on the green bar.
  17. Code is being stripped out of the IMG tag. Example, my cache has this html code : <img style="border: 2px solid ; width: 250px; height: 231px;" alt= "" src= "http://img.geocaching.com/cache/a32781d8-49f2-47dc-9952-dcf33a758de4.jpg" align="right" hspace="20" /> And the page is rendered with this line : <img alt src="http://img.geocaching.com/cache/a32781d8-49f2-47dc-9952-dcf33a758de4.jpg" style="border:2px solid ;width:250px;height:231px;" /> The code "align="right" hspace="20"" is missing which makes the picture show on the top left instead of indented in the text on the right. PS - Already reported. Just adding my voice.
  18. I absolutely loath adding caches to my Oregon 550t. Its almost guaranteed that it will lock midway. What a pain this thing is. This problem has been around forever, I dont understand how Garmin has not fixed it yet? Last night I spent almost one hour recovering my 550. What happened is that I was using the save battery option and put a new GPX file in the unit. The files has 4500 caches. Well, the smart folks of Garmin in their infinite wisdom decided to have the screen turn off during the booting process. Result I found myself with a black screen and no idea what was going on. After 10 minutes I figured that it locked. I pulled the batteries out and from then on the machine was so messed up that I had to remove the sd card and all the gpx files in the gpx folder for it to start otherwise it would just crash at boot. Got it to boot and imediately turned off battery saving and did the operation again... It crashed and finally worked on the second attempt.... <sigh>
  19. Can I get some tips on how to properly install the shield? I followed the instructions and I ended up with pockets of the liquid and whats looks like it got stuff between the shield and the screen. Not impressed with it. I need to redo it and the question is how do I clean the glue side of the shield?
  20. Can someone give me an idea how to solve this for me? I am still learning the basics of Wherigo. I have a hidden zone that players have to find. I want to display a message when people are going the opposite way of the zone. How can I achieve this?
  21. When you get new coins do you get the activation code or not? I got a few coins that I dont intend to activate and keep for my collection but I am wondering if I should get the activation code from their website. Thanks
  22. That sounds pretty good. I was wondering if you could share your spreadsheet just to see what kind of layout of have?
  23. That sounds good. Unfortunately I only have Excel to work with.
  24. Do you have the link for that discussion about google spreedsheet?
