  1. When I first found out about caching I also looked at the magellan roadmates. I found for Geocaching they are worthless. You can not enter cords manually into them. I use A Garmin Nuvi 255W for onroad and Paperless and Garmin GPSmap60 CSX for offroad.
  2. I dont think it is as much about protocol as it is of Ethics. Unethical probably. But I would guess that no one said that before the event that organizers were not allowed FTF on any of the even caches.
  3. Great deal on a PN-20 barely used. I bought this as a back up GPS when out caching with friends and family. But now coming into the holidays money is tight. I would like $160 plus shipping. Paypal only please PM me here if interested or call 608-604-9442 Thanks, Todd Includes everything shown in pictures below. PN-20 Topo 7 & 8 1 gig SD SD card reader All original box and manuals Has ZAGG Invisishield screen protector installed
  4. Im sorry. but let the guy ask what ever he wants for his unit. everyone is telling him you can buy a new unit for this or that. but a new unit does not include the $100 CITY NAVIGATOR NT update. If you People don't like a price do buy but no need to try and tell someone what they should sell their equipment for.
  5. not true. If you need to change the palm unit user name then you will need to use the free utility changename. Jim Not true in what SENSE? Palm does not make drivers for 64bit os for syncing. So if you want to sync you either have to have Blue tooth, SD card Transfer or set up a VM. So I guess it is not true if you have one of these you are saying? I got this from the Palm site when I was looking it before. Windows Vista and Palm OS 64-bit edition support Palm does not support USB synchronization on 64-bit versions of Vista. However, you can set up your Palm device to synchronize using Bluetooth technology here’s how: Synchronizing under 64-bit Windows Vista: Bluetooth HotSync setup. And this is only if you are useing Palm Desktop 6.2. In the end if you want to by a cheap PDA that is used and you have a 64bit OS. IS PALM a Wise Choice. FOR ME NOPE. I dont want to have to jump through that man hoops. That is just my Opinion.
  6. I have been looking also I am looking to possibly pick up a pda also. I have learned that most of the Palms will not work with Vista 64 bit os. So that has been one of my biggest things that has kept me from looking at them. As mentioned above. I have looking at the Axims or units that are running Pocket PC OS.
  7. Ahh yes. On my NUVI 255w I have over 10000 caches loaded in it as CUSTOM POIs. I do not know why the 500 would not be able to use custom POIs either which would basicly make it limitless to how many caches you can add to it. There are a couple of macros out for GSAK that I have tried and managed to put over 10000 caches into my 60CSx as Custom POIs also.
  8. Exactly why I stopped by and checked that Log book out. I did not want to claim a FTF that was not mine to claim. It is a Micro I took the log back out of the container and looked front and back of all the paper looking for another sig. Non there. Then I looked at the users other finds quick. Saw a Pennsivania cache on the same day as a bunch of Wisconsin caches. I just thought it was weird and maybe an accident. Heck i noticed months afterword that I had accidently logged a cache twice in one day. I went back and changed that log to a note as I felt guilty about it. I was just wondering what other people do when they figure out the did something by accident.
  9. GC1YE6Q GC1YE6Q WSQ Pine Valley. I thought it was weird that when I logged my find on this cache there was a find on it already. I had not seen any other finds when I signed the log. So today On my way home from Richland Center I stopped by to check it out and to this date there are NO other signatures on that log. It is making me wonder about some of that other guys finds now in the area. I was looking through his finds and he has finds in diff. States on the same day that are many many states apart. This just strikes me as odd maybe accidental. How can someon really do this on purpose with out having a Guilty conscious?
  10. For nuvi True paperless I have found GSAK and the NUVI macro is great. I load my whole database into it all the time. I use it for Road navigation. I keep only traditionals on my hand held then when I run accross a multi I want to do with the NUVI most of time you just are going to a location to get info anyways I enter the final coords by hand into the hand held.
  11. I could be mistaken, but wouldn't you be able to send the GSAK filtered PQ straight to the PN with T8? Or is the way you're doing it more convenient or better?? Cache Register is alot easyer to use than tranfering through T7 or T8. But like was said I know there is a Beta version of GSAK out right now that has the send to GPS for the PN that has been doing very well once it is final I will start useing that all together then I only need GSAK for all my CACHE data base needs.
  12. I use both I am sure you will be happy which ever unit you choose. I use GSAK to Organize my PQs. Then do a filter to weed out the caches I want to go for. With Gsak If I am loading my Garmin I just send to GPS if I am loading my Delorme I export my filtered caches to a GPX file then use Cache Register to put them on the PN.
  13. Yup I know my $300 GPSmap 60csx will do auto Routing with a $100 add on map. I personally bought my NUVI before I got my handheld and before I learned about Geocaching. Which is why I use it for my road routing as well as my paperless with the nuvi macro on GSAK. So either I sell my 60 and pay another $300plus for one of the Garmin UNITS that does routing. Or spend $250ish plus change on a PN-40. I took out a friends Colorado 400T a few weeks ago he has been a cacher for about 4-5 years with old blue etrex. He got the Colorado for Xmas and up until August had not figured out how to use it to cache could not get it to point to the cache like his Etrex did. I took it out did a bit of configureing and found 12 with it that day. But even though it did the Road routing and such ONE THING I COULD NOT stand with it was marking a way point entering the coord was the BIGEST pain in the ARSE. Now I have said I already have the PN-20 and the keys are alot like using my 60 and as far as entering coords by hand on it It is actually alot easyer to do than on my 60. Just my opinion but for the Money Delorme is on the right track on making a unit that is all around for Geocahing.
  14. As an owner of quite a few gps units, to include the PN-40, I myself don't consider the PN-40 to be of any value for road routing. The map quality is hit and miss, depending on area, and in many of the areas where it's bad, it's off by so much the GPS can't figure out what road you're on so it can't route you. Route calculation is only so so at best, and can be downright awful quite often. If you deviate off route, it calculates so slow that it often can't re-calculate unless you stop. You're much better off going the two unit route like you're currently following, or getting a handheld unit that has decent street maps available for it, and the capability to actually utilize that data. Back to the original topic, what things besides geocaching do you think you might be interested in using a GSP unit for? Do you golf? Are you a hiker? Do you venture into unknown areas often and maybe desire some vehicle navigation capability? Do the discussions on paperless caching interest you? GPS units are great tools, and like most tools, tend to be somewhat specialized. Some tools try to do it all, but are generally less than spectacular for most. Knowing what exactly you intend to do has a lot to do with making good recommendations. My point was not at all about giving up my Nuvi for routeing. Believe me that has its flaws also. I will not give up my Nuvi for Routing in the car. What I would give up is haveing to Carry 2 GPS on my Scooter. I have had more than one time that it has started raining on me while Out caching on the scooter and have had to put my Nuvi AWAY to avoid destroying it. My PN-20 does a Fair Job of routing it is just slow. I feel that the PN-40 would do a good job for what I want it to do. Which is doing a bit of Routing While Geocaching.
  15. Being a Garmin user and Love my garmins very much. BUt To do paper less I carry 2 GPS with me all the time My NUVI to do my road and GPSMAP 60CSx. I dont like that to do Road route I have to spend another $100 bucks. BUt If I knew then what I know NOW. I would have been all over the PN-40. I have the PN-20 as a back up unit and it is a great little unit but I dont like how slow it is or I would be useing it as my main GPS especially for when I go caching on my Scooter. For the money I would look at Delorme PN- series They are very good units. I am considering getting rid of my Garmin 60 to go with a PN-40 next year. Good luck on your Purchase.
  16. Maybe make it a Bonus SMILEY for the Puzzle. If it is in an ammo can put a code that someone has to send to you inside the Log that is in side the puzzle box. And just have a Regular log in the Ammo can for all to sign. Then you have the best of both worlds. Those that want to take time to do the maze get a second smiley. :-)
  17. Not sure what you are talking about. It is in the google map when I view the map from your Cache page.
  18. I keep min on a lanyard around my neck. Most of the caches in our area seem to be micros. I have Zagg shields on both of my Hand helds and have found that they make a great flat surface for signing the log books.
  19. What I kinda see as Ironic about the whole thing. In one breath they are talking about how they hate it then in the next they are out seaching for the same geocaches to destroy them. Funny Other than the destruction of the Cache they are GEOCACHING..... Morons.
  20. I bought Lanyards and put them in 4 mil zip with Biz cards with Cache and date I left them.
  21. I would atleast try Garmin Support. It would be worth a try.
  22. Off of Delormes site on the PN-20 forum http://forums.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?t=8919 Seems one of the best deals is on the Lithium batteries for these units. Heck of a deal at under $10 each http://www.all-battery.com/search.aspx?find=RCRV3
