  1. The gauntlet has been thrown... Watch this space. Just re-inforcing my backpack.
  2. 114) You hear a rumour about a new cache placement so you check your mail every 5 minutes to see if you can squeeze the FTF before work. You can wait no longer, head off to work, check mail when you get there and... Bugger!
  3. I don't think this guy knew what he was getting himself into. Averaging more than 10 finds a day. I hope he doesn't have a real job! As for me, I wouldn't log it... Kinda defeats the purpose for me
  4. To put it as simply as Henslin, my opinion: If you haven't signed the log, you shouldn't claim a find. It's just not cricket... I've been to a number of caches that have burnt, broken or disappeared, but will wait patiently for them to be replaced...
  5. Brilliant!!! I giggled (manly-like) for a long time after looking at this bug's page. I love it... I'm going to set about picking it up... A cacher tried to get it today but alas, his back-pack is now Broken Beyond Repair. (Pictures on the cache listing) Sorry Dilly:) Nice one Fish eagle
  6. Hi Glider Slider... I must concur! I think there is room for improvement in terms of protecting the ecology of an area by cachers. They (we) certainly don't do it on purpose, but it tends to happen. I think it should be stressed that (especially in nature reserves) to place aches with permission, and not to far from the paths. In additio, it's up to the cacher to have the responsibility no to go "bundu-bashing" to try and find the cache. I'll be the first to admit, I'm guilty of it but will never be again! It's all to easy to fal into the "oh, it's only 20m" trap. On the other side of the geocoin however, geocaching can also be beneficial to the environment. If you look at the recent events at Empisini in Natal. They found a cache unwittingly, asked for it to be removed and are now in the process of placing there own, reserve regulated caches. This being done in an attempt to bring more people in. Well done to them
  7. I recentlly watched as the Animaniacs TB was placed in it's starting cache a couple of months ago and I was proud to be the first to help it on it's way. It was picked up a few weeks afterwards by an "Islandsurfer" in whose hands it's remained ever since. Must be uber-frustrating for owners to have their bits go missing...
  8. YAY!! Only one more sleep. Rock Painted, tools organised, sneaky ideas to cheat and win geo-swag planned it's gonna be awesome. Looking at the number of replies and bugs and coins dropped it's going to be uber exciting... See you all there
  9. Hear Hear!!! When I got the mail today about the Empsini cache I was intrigued as to how it all came about... Thanks for the back-ground. I must agree, I take my hat off to the guys for taking the initiative and seeing the potential for caching in terms of toursim and conservation. I look forward to the caches being published, so we can commend them in the logs as well..
  10. Hi Cape Gypsy, I can only assume you're down in the Cape... I would offer to go caching with you anytime but I feel it may be a bit of a commute Your best bet is to look at some of the more active cachers (or beginner cachers) in yuor area and send them a mail... They almost guaranteed to be nice people (in my experience), although, following your post I don't think it'll be long before you have a few offers. Good luck...
  11. Goodness, I must say, I can't tell who the little blighter is either, but I'll tell you one thing: I certainly didn't clear him for take off!!! There's nothing wrong with his plane (or his moustache) but any-one who gets zero out of ten for anthing, shouldn't be flying!
  12. Hi Redglobe... The saying goes that if your ears are burning some-ones talking about you... Unfortunately at the moment I'm pretty sure what cachers are saying... If you can solve the riddle on the cache page you're 95% of the way. You'll just need to contact another local cacher to help you finish it off... I'm glad I've got people thinking. As an incentive, I showed it to my mom who took all of 8 seconds before she burst out laughing having solved it. Then again, she does know how I think... When it comes time to give some hints at the event, we'll give you a call
  13. Dang it, double post... Sorry about that... Edited due to natural stupidity...
  14. Okay, so I've been caching for a while now and have only JUST found this particualr forum. I did keep wondering where this "sandpit" place was that everyone was talking about though (please see footnote). Anyway, greetings. Hope to meet you all at the upcoming event... (where serious hints will be imparted for "Bottleneck"). Rhino: When you heading off for the swallows? Count me in!
  15. Now that sounds like a plane, although I received a phone call earlier this morning advising that I shouldn't give in and keep the local cachers guessing... Then again, this sounds like a fair swap:)
  16. Let me get in here early... Any Pretorian's, Joburgian's etc keen to do the twin cache together? Not necessarily at the Mid Summer Madness cache either (avoid the rush). If you're keen, send me a mail. I'm also pretty flexible with my times as a shift worker. Look forward to hearing from someone soon. Skyjuggler
  17. Oh, sorry. I forgot to add, I've got a good nuymber of years climbing experience in both sport, traditional climbing and some aiding (climbing using only equipment, not hands and feet). I also have a reasonable amount of climbing gear I can add to the pile... Hope to hear more soon.
  18. I hope this post isn't too late... I'm going to be gutted if I've missed it. My only problem is that I have a bit of a tight work schedule so I'd have to do some shuffling around but if I can make it, I'll be there.
  19. Yeah Blue Deuce... You were right, was picked up shortly before I arrived. So, false alarm... Phew
  20. This is my first post as a new cacher (3 days) (can't remeber what I did for fun before"), nad I hope this won't be one of the stoopid annoying questions by posters too stoopid or lazy to read all pages but: I went to a cache this morning which was supposed to have a TB inside. Alas, distinct absence of TB. What do I do? Can't collect it, but feels wrong to have it attached to the cache. Thanks in advance P.S. The name of the TB is being withheld until the family has been informed...
