  1. There's nothing wrong with creating a second account to do just that. Another alternative is to modify your existing account to be half way between work and home.
  2. There's nothing wrong with providing a waypoint that is somewhat distant from the cache and then providing directions to the cache. When I was hiding this (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=24402) cache, that was the only way to do it. You'll find that if you don't make it absolutely clear that the coordinates aren't where the cache is hidden at, you will have a number of highly annoyed hunters. Before getting fixed on one way to hide a cache, go and find 10-20 of them. As you hunt and find, think how you would do this cache with your method. Remember, hunter hunt because they like to find caches. Hiders hide because they want people to find their cache. It's no fun to spend the time, effort and money on a cache no one hunts or has bad things to say about.

  4. I think Infopop believes that every place uses daylight savings thus, there is no need for a difference between the two. They forgot that GMT, in addition to places like my home, also don't change which means that EST (-5) and EDT (-4) are different.
  5. I'm not going to deny that I like my mileage. Duh, huh? I use it to keep track of the overseas caching. If there was a personal map then I probably wouldn't have set it up. I haven't taken it on two trips that would have pushed the mileage numbers over 100k. It's not like I regret it either, because it's not a contest. quote: Dougc:Yep. The "top 10" bugs list became mostly useless except perhaps a game between those few at the top. Not really, some of those bugs are normal travellers and some are personal. On one trip to Singapore, I tried to get the Oliver bug to bring it on it's last leg around the world. The then holder wanted to place it elsewhere though. quote:Rubbertoe: If you are concerned with how far you've gone between caches, where you've gone, or whatever such stats - there are better ways to do it than with a travel bug. If you know of a way that's just as easy, I'm all ears.

  7. The Arizona geocaching community has something like that available at the awesome web site of: http://www.azgeocaching.com/ Just check out the team stats.
  8. I found one the same day it was archived. Some people will archive first then go get the cache instead of posting a note saying "I'm going to pull the cache on xxx date, don't hunt it after then." I spent quite a while hunting this cache and would have been highly annoyed if I couldn't log it after finding it.
  9. The elevation capabilities on the lower end units like most of us use for Geocaching doesn't do so well with elevation. In most cases, my elevation is reasonably close but I've seen it several hundred feet off when it's showing 20 foot accuracy, in addition to it's normal range of inaccuracy.
  10. I believe this is the one being referred to. There was another topic discussing it a few days ago. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=29015&decrypt=y
  11. He's a new geocacher, don't expect much. Also, it's entirely possible that it will go east faster via CA.

  13. Why not pull up "District of Columbia" as the state? Most will be virtual though because of the NPS objection to caches.

  15. Cache during the day? In the summer, in the desert? Have fun! The best time to hit our non-urban caches now is 5-6am. It's light but still under 100... usually. 3-4am is the best time but the desert is a bit more dangerous, even with a flashlight.

  17. When I'm a tourist and hunting in places that have good public transport, I usually provide bus or MRT info in my logs. The problem is that hiders generally live in the area, can usually afford cars and never consider how to get to their cache by bus. Example cities where there are a large number of tourists and good mass transit systems where transit information would be useful: New York London Singapore Hong Kong Auckland
  18. There's nothing wrong with placing a cache on a moving object. You could use packet radio to update the coordinates or you could use clues. "Go to these coordinates, get on the blue boat, walk 50 feet from ..." This only applies if the owner gives permission though.

  23. I think that since golf balls can be found there, they need to get there and some may get there at a high rate of speed. At first glance, this looks like it could be dangerous.
  24. There's going to be people here who are gung-ho to sign up because they think Bush is doing a great job and there's going to be people who link this to informant networks in former Iron Curtain countries. There's an awful lot that might affect the way Geocaching is perceived and participation a year or three from now. Until something actually happens though, I much prefer to see these boards stay politics free. There are more appropriate venues for expressing political opinions and getting things done in whichever way you want them done.
  25. The cache owner is the first watcher. The number of watchers represents accounts, other than the owner, that are watching the cache. When I first started, I thought the same way so I added myself as a watcher and got double copies of the alert e-mails.
