    Phone GPS's

A drawback other than inaccuracy to consider, is the battery drain on non-dedicated devices; With most you won't be able to do a proper hike before the battery runs out.
  2. It's PEOPLE But to stay on-topic - I disagree with killing them as well. If you find that your spot is being compromised by the presence of wildlife, in whatever form, consider not placing your cache there
  3. I always bring my Canon Powershot G9. But then, I do not kayak
  4. Thank you for your reply. Though it's not exactly what I'm looking for, I'll see if I can make use of your tip
  5. You can access your bookmarks/favourites from the 'Other bookmarks' menu at the top, even in non-empty tabs if you have 'Always show bookmarks bar' enabled. Folders are at the top for me and links are at the bottom. As for keeping a history, I prefer a complete history instead of an incomplete one and multiple users should use multiple windows accounts, so that, amongst other things, history is personal.
  6. Good afternoon. For some days I have been trying to figure out whether or not there's a setting in my GPSr, allowing me to set the default zoom distance for when I look up a location or check a waypoint. For instance, when I am in the Netherlands and use 'Find' -> 'Recent Finds', choose a location in the UK, press enter and choose 'Map', it will show me the location, but from an altitude of 200km, which is too high up for me to use, forcing me to press 'In' a number of times before I can start using the waypoint I marked. Is there a setting I have overlooked which can say.. set the default zoom to 50 or 80 metres?
  7. Google Maps does not have detailed enough images of where I am and go, so I can not use it for geocaching. So I do not think it ruins it. Furthermore, as others have said, you don't have to use it It's not as if the mere existence threatens geocaching.
  8. Oh wow - Thank you so much, you've made my day I should have posted here two days ago Thanks again and cya around on the forums.
  9. [Resolved] Hi everyone. I've been mucking about with my new Garmin 60CSx for a few days now, trying to get both Topo and Street maps on it for two countries. I can put all maps on it, but when I want to toggle between Topo and Street maps from the drop-down list, I have to go through near a hundred different segments, toggling part of it until I've got either the Topo or Street maps selected. I was wondering - is there a way to combine segments into one toggle-able map on my GPSr, so that I decrease the maps in the list to just the countries, one topo and one street map option for both? My current 'solution' is to make the topo maps transparent and put all maps on my device, but in some areas that's a bit messy as some topo sections overlap areas on the underlying map. I did search these forums, googled around, but found nothing to help me. I hope someone else has tried this and can help me. I am aware I could use two cards, but I'd rather have it all one one. Thanks in advance
  10. Quite an interesting thread, I never knew about talking sticks
  11. There's no pleasing some people Ah well, no need for me to feed the trolls Cya later Fledermaus
  12. I'm using it as I type this; I like it quite a bit, even when comparing it to Opera, Firefox and IE with IE7Pro. Sure, it doesn't have all the extras of user/greasemonkey scripts, addons or ad-filtering/blocking, but so far that's no problem. I use a hosts file to block most ads anyway. The PDF comic they made to explain the browser is rather good too
  13. Hm. I just tried it and I noticed that when you go to geocaching.com and enter a UK postcode, for instance: "GU1 4NG" It gives me caches in Germany. However, when I click "Advanced Search", it will produce caches very close to that location.
  14. Consider checking this thread - there seems to be quite a bit discussion there regarding Oregon accuracy. Good luck
  15. Bandwidth, hosting and a domain cost money too, so I do not think discounts would be a good idea. Furthermore, by making use of the forums and advice/experiences shared, I think money can be and is saved already. For instance, I myself first looked at the very latest GPS devices, but after reading many a thread on various units, I managed to paint a more concrete picture of what I needed for what I wanted to do with my GPS receiver. This allowed me to broaden the range of units I was looking at, and saved me money as I discovered I did not need the latest model to do what I wanted
  16. TomTom's smap to roads, so any cache not near a road, will be very difficult to find. Furthermore, TomTom's are not made to walk/cycle around with, they're hardly rugged and/or waterproof, so if you stumble into a situation where the device can get wet and/or dropped, you may well be risking a rather expensive device. Consider getting a Garmin eTrex, a Magellan eXplorist 100 or Geko 101/201 instead, they're quite affordable, while being more of an outdoor device.
  17. Sure, that would be fine. I hope he reads this. gensnet, if you decide to send a message to appeals@geocaching.com, feel free to PM it to me, so that I may translate it and send it back to you, so that you can send it. Good luck
  18. Perhaps 'darned' would have been more appropriate, but ah well. Your idea to send an e-mail sounds like a good one though
  19. Thank you Let me translate what you just posted. I'm sure someone will come along to respond to this, unfortunately I'm very new to geocaching, so I can't help you further, apart from wishing you good luck and hoping your hobby won't be affected too much by this matter.
  20. Hm.. I am not sure what you're trying to say. It sounds like there's some mix-up, where someone from geocaching.com did something with a cache belonging to someone from geocaching.nl. I'm Dutch myself, so if you used some online translation service, which often produce a rather literal translation, please post the original Dutch message so that I can post something more readable here.
  21. Thank you for the dice idea. Though I do not have my GPS yet - I only ordered it this morning (Garmin 60CSx) - I just ordered 50 20-sided dice from e-bay so that I have something to leave behind for a while
  22. Thank you for this thread. Though I have done something similar to geocaching with Scouting, I have never owned my own GPS, nor did I know of the geocaching websites out there. The whole 'treasure hunting' aspect really speaks to me. And since I too have been looking at the Garmin 60csx, I'm just reading all threads/reviews/articles on it I can find, checking out any other model/brand mentioned in comparisons to see if they are better for me. So far the 60csx seems to be at the top of my list, but I'll keep reading. I almost ordered it yesterday, but as there's no real rush to have it, I'm giving myself some more days of pouring over what's available on GPS devices.
