  1. I use a Lowrance iFinder, with the Southern Ontario Freedom Map. The only time I have trouble with my signal is when I am in close proximity to the Niagra Escarpment - the signal starts to 'swirl'. As back up, I will often bring a Rino110, which also has the FRS radio built in, but this one eats batteries, so it really is an 'emergency' unit.
  2. The iFinder works great with or without an SD card. As mentioned, the SD card is the easiest way to get new data into the iFinder, other than entering it using the buttons on the unit itself. The process is awkward, but it works, and yes, removing the batteries to get at the SD card slot is a major pain. iFinder supports street mapping as well, and this data is stored on the SD cards. I have the Southern Ontario FreedomMap card, and it has most addresses and streets in the region. If you don't need the streetmaps, just waypoint and trail data, SD card is not necessary.
  3. The Legend has capability of twice as many Waypoints as the 110, and much more memory, of course. The screen is larger on the Legend, and resolution is better.
  4. I have a nearly new Rino110 that I am not using. I have the original packaging, having removed it maybe a half dozen times only for testing. The FRS radio works great, but, I have few friends to use them with when out caching. Included is the belt clip, lanyard, documentation and original package, as well as GPSR. I would like to obtain an Etrex, preferrably the Venture model, in trade for the Rino110. The much smaller size is more suitable to minimalist hiking, and will eat batteries much less quickly. I am willing to entertain reasonable trades, if you have something different to offer. I am also willing to sell it outright, but would prefer a trade, if possible.
  5. AHAHAHAHAHA!! That just made my whole weekend! Thanks! Once I stop laughing I should go order some!
  6. FOR SALE Garmin Rino 110 GPS-Integrated FRS/GMRS Radio Product page Garmin Rino 110 I have the GPSR unit with belt clip, lanyard strap, manuals, and original packaging. MSRP is about 225$ CAD, I am asking for 150$ CAD. Reasonable offers will be entertained. This unit is in perfect working order, and even claims to have greater accuracy than my other unit, I just find that I use more of the options I have available on the iFinder.
  7. I use the iFinder too. You can download a free application from Lowrance, Lowrance GDM6, which can make entering your pre-route waypoint information much easier. Save the database, then export the text based route and waypoint data. Then I copy this file from my PC to extra space on the Secure Digital cards for my Palm, or even the extra space on the Freedom Map for my area. Put the card into the iFinder (under the batteries), then from the Main menu, under System Setup, Transfer My Data, Load. All your new waypoints and routes will be loaded. You can get a serial cable to connect from the bottom of your iFinder to your PC, but I have never tried it, and Lowrance technical support discouraged me, suggesting the SD card route that I had already devised. It is kind of a lot of steps, but beats endless cursor scrolling (though using the ZOOM appropriately can help there too).
  8. Tarzanadana and XMIT Yeah, I guess I am only the third Lowrance iFinder here then. I grew up on boats, and Lowrance has always been focussed on the marine market, so I was familiar with their stuff, and trust it. I am EXTREMELY happy with the iFinder - big screen, great detailed SD map cards, and appears to be pretty drop/bounce resistant. I have also just recently begun experimenting with a PCMCIA card from Trimble for my laptop. Still trying to get the NMEA translations straightened out, maybe on the weekend.
