  1. Has anyone tried the TOPO U.S. 24K Northeast on DVD? How many map tiles and how much space does it take up on a microSD? Any other observations? Thanks WildHog
  2. Thanks for the tip. The goo gone worked very well and my Vista HCx is curing at this very moment. Hopefully I will be using to go caching tomorrow.
  3. What did you use to remove the old glue? I just fixed my eTrex Legend with ultra-black RTV silicone gasket maker and I tried rubbing alcohol to remove the glue but that didn't work very well and it took forever. It looks like I'm going to need to fix my eTrex Vista HCx soon, I could send it in for a warranty repair but I'm going to have to fix with the gasket maker eventually. The good news is I left my Legend in the car today, the sun heated it up and the silicone is holding perfectly.
  4. I use Kingston SD and SDHC cards. I've only had one go bad in the five years that I've used them. On the other hand I had a SanDisk SD card go bad after a month.
  5. Did they allow you to download it free? I was able to download it for free. I connected my Vista HCx and did an update on the Garmin web site. It took me a few tries to download the file, it's about 2gb. I have the NT version, I don't know if this is compatible with the 60CS but the map sizes would fit on the 52mb depending on how much area you need. North Dakota is 6.3MB, Chicago is 13MB, Iowa is 13MB, New Mexico is 10.9MB; you should fit a couple of states on there.
  6. I recently purchased the 2009 version for my Vista HCx and was able to download the 2010.1 update. I don't know when the 2010 version will be available in stores.
  7. I don't think those are the drivers you want; they are for GPS units that have a USB connection. You're connecting with a serial port, not USB. Did you install any drivers for the Serial/USB adapter? Are you just planning to transfer geocaches to your unit when you connect to the PC?
  8. The ring mounts should be the same. I have one mounted on my bike that I have used my Legend on for years. I just got a Vista HCx and it clips in just fine. The back should fit on the camo and then either unit can fit into either clip. If you ever decide to get a windshield or dashboard mount both units will be able to clip into that as well.
  9. Thanks for the information. I pressed navigate and my unit did the autoroute. Only it looks like I have to have the extra maps installed on my device. I can't just create a route on MapSource and put it on my Vista HCx like I could with my Legend.
  10. I have MetroGuide North America v8 with MapSource v 6.15.4. When I make a route it follows the roads on MapSource and when I transfer the route to my eTrex Legend it automatically creates waypoints where I would need to turn since the Legend can't route on the roads. Here's my question; I recently purchased an eTrex Vista HCx and when I transfer the routes there it just creates a line between the start and finish, no waypoints in between. Is there a setting on MapSource I need to change or is my new Vista HCx just not compatible with my version of MetroGuide? Thanks
  11. The "memory used" is for tracks, routes and waypoints. I don't know of any way to check the map memory. In Mapsource it should give you the total size of the maptiles selected on the bottom of the screen. If it's over 8mb then it won't fit on your Legend.
  12. It looks like you have a GPSMAP 60. Those have a serial port as well as USB. You can get a serial port for your PDA from Pfranc and connect a serial cable from the GPS to the PDA. I have the same iPAQ PDA as you do and I am able to connect my eTrex Legend in this manner.
  13. Hi all, I'm getting ready to upgrade from my eTrex Legend to an eTrex Legend HCx or an eTrex Vista HCx. I would appreciate any input from those of you who have used these units. Would the electronic compass and altimeter be worth the slightly higher price of the Vista HCx? Thanks WildHog
