  1. Now that would be fun, a Turkey that shoots back. Take cover everyone!! Hey, turn around's fair play!
  2. Is that "White Jeep TB at the Grand Canyon?" How cute! Charlie Brown & Snoopy!
  3. I went out to the coast to escape the heat the SDCET crew. It was "only" 101 there... Well, at least you didn't have to work outside today! Phew!
  4. What's the problem? Where would you expect a skillet to be but in a hot place?
  5. I've seen ads on TV for a product that should help you with that... Do you think that this subject might become the first post on the 200th page of this thread? You know.....I can't say I have ever had that problem. Hey, let me tell you, it's not fun! Not that I've ever had that problem...
  6. That helps make it fun and, as Miragee said, some of us just aren't very good at puzzles.
  7. But of course! I mean, after all, San Diego is one of the country's premier destinations for conventions of all sorts. Although this may not be a "Convention Center" type convention, it is definitely a "convention" and San Diego certainly has the facilities to host an event like this. I have all kinds of connections in the Hospitality Industry and with all the convention folks, so I can and will certainly help in any way I can. When's the first planning meeting? Do you need some help on the application to the Selection Committee? I have only ideas for the write up to the selection comittee. First and formost, we need a location. Dave (C4) suggested Lake Skinner for the actual event/picnic and I like the lake but I'm afraid that is too small for folks who want to camp, especially on Memorial Day week end. I have a list of items the selection people want addressed in the application. I will send it to you via email Tom. I guess one thing to decide right off the bat is whether we should communicate as a planning group via an e-mail distribution list or through a separate thread on the forums or both. It seems this topic should (eventually) probably have its own thread. I like the idea of a thread. That way, those of us that may or may not be able to help can still "listen in" & if something comes up that we COULD do, we could jump in. Trouble is, is there any way to keep the thread so that just SD cachers see it & no one else? That way, people from other areas that plan on coming to it can't get all of the secrets ahead of time.
  8. Ok folks, I need more training. We're going to go on a trip & I want to pick & choose which caches we download. How does one get the caches one wants into gsak? Please "use little words" & in-depth instructions. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like this info.
  9. Didn't someone local get interviewed to be on that show?
  10. I have a handful of those pins left. You can either get one that I placed in this cache a few days ago; Stone Sentinel (GCHK6K), or take the more difficult approach of contacting me with your address and I'll mail you a few! Regarding WiFi Spots, a GPX file would be sweet! However, before you make that information public you might also want to score some credit for your research by placing them in the Waymarking.com Category - "WiFi HotSpots". Cheers, PassingWind Aye, pardon tha newbie question but what be tha San Diego Geocachers? Be this a formal gatherin' o' ye treasure hunters? Nay, ye be wrong. Nothin' formal about this motley crew! We be a bunch of crazy tupperware chasers. The group is like the tide, it ebbs & flows, depending on what is going on. Both our non-geo lives & the "events" that are dreamt up. Come join the crew anytime! Speaking of which...anyone that's good planning, planning any meet 'n greets soon?
  11. Make that 13 caches mate! Neptune's Daughter an' I just planted two more on the mountain today ("Belly Trimmer V - Iron Mtn." and "If It Were A Snake...."). BLAST it were hot on that mountain today!! Thought we were gonna die! 4:30 start should be cooler, but ye may need headlamps ifn' yer doin' tha whole thing AND stoppin' fer caches. Tha views are splendid indeed! Arrrrr. Y'all gonna die!!!
  12. Well, gosh darn it! I journeyed up Spring Canyon to go get the northerly caches. I got all the way up to "DELIVERANCE" in spite of the Marines patrolling the ridge above. Then when they went down into the canyon, I went up onto the ridge. The tactic worked well until they spotted me headed toward "Take Cover" and they came up to speak with me. So here's the scoop. The.KMZ file that TG's friend put together appears to be pretty accurate. There is supposed to be a sign in Spring Canyon that marks the spot where you have to stop and turn around. The signpost is still there (and there is a line of rocks across the trail.) The sign keeps getting stolen. The Marines said that they are going to put up a gate as soon as they can allocate some money. This sign post is very close to the boundary shown in TG's .KMZ file. "Farther Than the Farthest Star" is OK but the terrain rating has gone up if you want to get there without venturing into the "No Go" zone. "C.E.G. Workout #1" and the caches north of there are definitley over the line. Also, the ridge is definitely off limits. They are very concerned about people being up there due to stray rounds from live fire exercises. One other thing -- for the most part, they (the Marine MPs) are being pretty friendly (they even made sure that I had enough water before they sent me on my way) but they can cite you for trespassing on military property... Hey, it's a good idea to stay off of the ridges. I work in San Carlos now & it seems like I'm always hearing munitions going off. Hate for one of you to find out where the marines are the hard way...
  13. Finally something that we can all agree on! Hey, what's wrong with that mug?? It looks like only 1/2 a mug! Someone was shortchanged! Ya need to get a REAL Oktoberfest mug.
  14. What's going on?!?!?!?! Everyone's leaving us!!! TT, Rocketman, Princess Toadstool & now Dr. Boggis & Nat. Do we need to take showers more often?? It's a little hard when you're hiking all over MTRP, ya know. I know, you saw the snow we had on the mountains & decided you couldn't live any longer with out a heavy dose of that white stuff. Or, since there aren't that many caches in MT, Nat's moving there to propigate! Well, we wish all of you well.
  15. 3 bucks!!!! Are they insane?!?!?! How is anyone supposed to be able to go caching at such a high price?!?!?!?
  16. So which direction did you hike? And where did you start at?
  17. What do you mean you're leaving town? Where are you going? And why in the world would you want to leave SD?!?! Geez, there sure seems to be an exodus of people leaving lately. Don't ya all like us any more?!?!?!?!? Well, whatever the case, we hope you enjoy your new home & have a happy life there.
  18. Well geez! There is a ton of BLM land all over the place & there usually are caches near by. Hmmm. A good area. I'd say to park near Anza-Borrego. There are ?hundreds? of caches all around. You do have a dinghy, right? You could park on S22 just East of the radio tower/county line. You could park along the rim & have gorgeous views. A group of us go out to this area each fall for a campout/cache extravaganza/chilli cook-off. (Come join us! ) I'm kind of surprised that you plan on coming this way for the summer. Most people head north by this time of the year. The desert (which A-B is located) is getting pretty hot by now. You being from Texas, tho, you're probably used used to the heat.
  19. Hey, I'm tickled PINK! I hurt my foot the other day on the job so I can't carry the mail for at least a week. Oh, darn!
  20. Yea, some of these folks are REAL "individuals"!!! Right, Harmon? Are you using UTM? Don't! We were waaaay off using that. Thankfully we ran across TT doing the same cache & he set us straight.
  21. I'm soooo jealous! You might say I'm green with envy! (ok, ok. Bad joke.) You'll be doing what we've been wanting to do. I can't retire for, what, 12 years, at least!
  22. I concur with Dan-oh. Some of us can't surf the web at work so we have to do all our surfing at home. There's only so many hours in a day....
  23. That's funny. I ran across this guys profile today as well. Check out one of his logs he made a few days ago. Twilight zone I saw the same webpage today! You missed his earlier profile where he stated he survived being marooned on an island for three years, and something about being on a Mt Everest-type expedition. He also posted a DNF, complete with pictures, on the Yukon Diving cache a week before cache was to be hidden (the description clearly stated the date it was to be hidden.) The find attempt seemed suspect; read TT's log entry as he has deleted the DNF post. He also got some blood boiling here when he posted on the SCG website that San Diego caches lacked creativity.. I've had email conversations and he appears "sane"; I get the feeling he's just an animated character and means no harm. Chuy, you're feelings are right on. I talked to him at the Santee event and since via e-mail; Matt's a good guy (despite the feathers he may have ruffled). End transmission. D! Once apon a time he got his wires crossed & sent me some email where the verbage wasn't very nice. At that time, his profile listed him as a minister. Some minister! He seems like a really strange duck.
  24. Why was I turned on by that story ? Passing Wind & waist-deep mud. Hummm... Yellowstone mud pots??
  25. Thats awesome! You worked in all the required elements. Very funny, in a friendly way. Wait a minute! I don't see a bruised fanny in that picture. I want to see the bruised fanny! (Ok, not really! ) So what is he sitting on? It's a really cute rendition of Signal. The poor, little guy!
