  1. I found one in a baggie last month and it really surprised and disappointed me. It was the last stage of an absolutely terrific and challenging 4-stage multi. The CO was going to be taking a series of road trips so the final was completely packed with travel bugs, coins, and all kinds of trackables so the container was completely inappropriate. Granted, it was a really nice baggie (more like a pencil case) but still not nearly sturdy or heavy enough for it's resting place.
  2. I spent many years in a colonial fife & drum corps, but that's not quite the same (although many people confuse the two for some reason). Always enjoyed watching the drum corps though.
  3. Thanks for asking this question! I was in Chicago last week and felt really weird about attempting to do the downtown caches with the bazillions of people milling around so I ended up not doing any. Looking forward to more advice on this subject

    Is it me?

It's not just you. My mom has noticed it a lot lately and neither of us are getting all of our notification emails.
  5. Hi there and welcome! Hope you come to love it as much as I do.
  6. I had the same problem. Turns out that they were all there but only the 50 closest to your present location are actually displayed. I posted here and someone sent me the following which helped: "If you hit find> enter and see the list of caches, press menu. One of the selections is Find by Name. You get a form to enter a name, but just click over to OK and you will see the whole list. To get out of the mode just hit the menu button when you have the list and return to Find Nearest. It is a neat feature, you can load up caches and as you travel the nearest pop up and it changes as you travel." Hope that helps you as well.
  7. My pleasure. Enjoy your cruise and hope you can find some caches in port.
  8. Try the message forums at CruiseCritic.com. You should be able to find a forum for the ship and sailing you'll be on and post a message to see if any cachers (or people you can interest in caching) will be aboard. I posted there before our last cruise about a year ago and met some of the people I had talked to online. It was nice to kind of "know" some of the people on board.
  9. Oh, and along the same lines... when a new cache is published and you log a note on the cache stating that if you were not on vacation/away on business/at work/etc you'd be all over it.
  10. I have to agree with you on that one. I've never seen it myself but I've heard others tell a similar story. Also agree with phoning someone to find out if they've found it or to get in on that person's search so they can claim it as a shared FTF. Another sign is when a cacher literally pushes another person out of the way to get to the cache first. I had that happen to me last week and it wasn't even an FTF hunt. I'd hate to see what that guy would do if it was an FTF. Ticked me off in a big way.
  11. Never mind, nothing to see here. Meant to reply to a different post. LOL
  12. Glad you got it to load. I got all my PQ data into GSAK but can't seem to get more than 50 to load into my GPS. I finally just deleted it I got so frustrated LOL.
  13. I've never heard of this book but will definitely check it out for all the reasons Dinoprophet stated. Sounds like it's right up my alley! Thanks for mentioning it.
  14. You are most welcome. I hope the links help.
  15. Found it! This is the one I was looking for: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...bf-d8aa1cba3f9a
  16. This isn't the specific one I was looking for but this should help http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...ef-901807ba9c98 I'll try to find the other one.
  17. Somewhere around here is a thread that has some tips for things to check when trying to solve a mystery cache. I'll see if I can find that and post the link. BRB.
  18. This one here GC3DBD appears to be a letterbox inside the park and this one GCZKB9 looks like it's on the outskirts. Someone mentioned in their log that the tram operator yelled something to them while they were searching for the cache. There are several caches in the Detroit Zoo near where I live that I don't think are considered commercial so it's obviously allowed. I love the Wild Animal Park and would love to do that letterbox. There are plenty of shrubs and tucked away areas in which a small cache could be hidden. The only thing I'd worry about is people trampling around in there without regard and respect for the surroundings.
  19. Most of the time I keep a notepad on my dashboard and when I get back in the car the first thing I do is write down the name of the cache just found (or not found) and anything memorable about it. I also have a PDA that I sometimes use for capturing comments but just writing them on paper is quicker for me and I can keep everything in order.
  20. I run for them if they're close to home and I've been made aware of it within a reasonable time. FTF competition is fierce in my area so I need to find about it immediately after it's published and go or I know I won't get it. As for my favorite, I've only got about 5 of them and they were all very memorable so I can't pick a favorite. My first was on a rainy day and I was alone trying to find it so it was fun but kind of lonely as there was no one to share with. The next were published about 11pm on a Saturday and I conned my husband into going with me and he actually made the find on one of them (no account though so I took credit for it) so that was memorable. Then on new year's day my mom and I got a few shared FTFs which was tons o'fun. We knew there was going to be a new cache blitz so I had stayed up til about 4am thinking they were going to be published after midnight and then was back up about 7 and over my mom's to wait for them to come rolling in. When nothing popped up at noon we went out caching and then returned home about 3pm to find the blitz had started so we jumped in the car and drove like maniacs and picked up 3 more.
  21. My mom and I are the cachers in our family. The men don't get it and are not very interested. Once in a while my 9 year old nephew has a little spark of interest but he's not hooked like we are. When we go to the local meeting there are tons of women there too so it's not just a guy thing.
  22. It is if you park a few or several yards away and actually get out and walk a little.
  23. So glad that you decided to give it another try and had better results!
  24. When I think of something not being winter friendly, it's due to piles of snow. There is a good cache in my area that is on the ground and if there is the slightest amount of snow it will not be found so I'd say it's not winter friendly. Another one is hanging from a tree in the back corner of a back parking lot of a church. I tried to get to it but when the snow is cleared from that parking lot it is pushed straight back against the fence and I couldn't (i.e., wouldn't) climb over the 7 foot snowbank to get to it. Not winter friendly With the amount of snow we've gotten here this winter even some quick lamp post caches are not winter friendly as they are surrounded by huge piles of snow. The only thing I don't like about that attribute as it pertains to snow is that it can give away the location of the cache and make it not as much fun to find.
