  10. $25 to hide a cache? No telling how much revenue we bring to these parks. I know in one weekend I "donated" $24 to the state park system just in day passes. And another $16 to camp. I imagine that adds up fast for them. As for the getting lost, I disagree. I don't think they are worried about geocachers getting lost. Heck, we have the best available orienteering technology at our disposal! That only goes to show that either: 1. The powers that be, REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT WE ARE DOING! or 2. Want to make a quick buck. I agree with rules and regs. I think they have a potential argument with littering and MAYBE ammo boxes. But this $25 thing is right off the board, out in the yard, down the street, and gone for good. If I were you guys out there, I would say to heck with caching in the state parks. It is shame too, b/c the state park system is so beautiful and a very worthy ambition. A tragedy I tell you... I think that geocachers -for the most part- are the very embodiment of the outdoors person. And every geocacher I have met has proven that to me. We don't litter or trespass and are usually very environmentally friendly. We are not the Saturday afternoon family taking the kids to local swimming hole and leaving enough trash behind to power a small recycling facility. These guys really need to reconsider their alliances. Okay, Okay - someone else can take the soap box now... I will get down. Phil LaGeocaching
  11. The event is first weekend of October meeting at 9:00 am. I went out to Evangeline Camp to get the coordinates but there were crews out there working. I have not posted the event yet, b/c I wanted to MAKE SURE that area was open before telling everyone something that was wrong. I am going back tomorrow to see if the area will be open. I have sent out several emails but only a few people (like two or three) have replied. Russell, I thought you were on the list??? Maybe not. I will double check my sent mail file. At any rate, I will have some new caches setup and shirts there. I have posted other information on this board about the event earlier and no one replied. To be honest, I began wondering if it was worth it. Doug told me though that sometimes it takes a while for anyone to respond. We will see. Look for the posting tomorrow on geocaching.com

  13. I, too, thought ebay would be the best place. I checked there first. I am seeing that most places are selling for around $70 but they want 10 - 12 dollars to ship the item. THAT IS LUDICROUS. Thanks for the info though.

  17. www.shopharmony.com has the Platinum model for $259.00 as of today. The prices on the other models are fair. But they are a little high on the sportrak. I am guessing the sportrak has driven the prices down on the meridian series. WHICH WORKS OUT GREAT FOR ME!!! Safe Caching! Phil LaGeocaching

  19. I have used the 315 since Jan 2001 when I found geocaching. I have NEVER felt the need to upgrade till recently. I stay on the "TO: waypoint screen most of the time. I track in watching the bearings and my distance. YOU HAVE TO KEEP moving in order the unit to update. And if you loose signal when you are close to the cache, you could walk right by it and not know it until your unit picks up signal again and shows you past it. I have only run into this in HEAVY tree cover. Otherwise, I have had no other problems. When finding a cache, I get in to 0.0 miles and I know I am in the area close. I then began to use a caching-sense and look where I would hide one. If all else fails, there is the clue. The only reason I sold my 315 recently is b/c I won a free copy of S&D and I need to upgrade to use it. That software is so expensive, that I would hate to not take advantage of it. Good luck! 21. It was so long ago that I don't remember, but I KNOW I heard of problems with the upgrade on the firmware. (Unless I am thinking of a previous release) Like I said, I don't remember what the problem was, but I remember dismissing the fact my GPS did show distance in feet due to the error in the firmware. You might try contacting Mag. for more details. Thanks, Phil
  22. Well, I have not had any colorful experiences like yourself, but I do use my GPS on flights. I stick it in the map pocket on the seat in front of me and have even had it on my dinner tray before. No one has ever said anything to me. Maybe they did not see it. At any rate, I love keeping up with where I am on a flight and the GPS if perfect. I have not heard anything either about the law concerning this, but I would assume most FA would make you shut it off. Perhaps out of extreme caution or simple stupidity. Good question! Thanks, Phil LaGeocaching
