  1. We have done the wedding cache and I have a nice picture of it if anyone wants me to send it. I could post it, but some may prefer to be surprised.
  2. Today I walked up to where A Piece of Cake cache was and found the ammo can jammed between a burnt rock and large burnt tree branch. The papers inside were scorched and all the toys were melted together and stuck to the can making it unuseable. Flagmans signature card and the log book survived. There was a TB that was scorched also. The area had been bulldozed when they fixed the utility pole so the rock the ammo can is sitting on in the picture was uncovered then and not burned.
  3. We are back in our home, but see a black mountain behind us which burned to our property line. "A Piece of Cake" and "8 is Enough" used to be up the hill behind us. The brush WAS so thick that I would have to go as others just to get to them. Now it is nothing. Our street was a lucky one as the devastation north of us in Westwood of Rancho Bernardo is hard to believe. I was sadden to see that Historic Sikes Adobe which was the start of "Mule Hill" cache has been destroyed. The lovely trails of "Westwood Valley Lore" are now ash. RB Park remains open and untouched but is set up to help people who have lost homes etc. Urban Trail cache (not mine) was just below the apartment complex that had extensive damage and is just down the street from us. We were back east in NJ on Monday so we had a few tense days. But, on the bright side, we did not have to evacuate at 4AM.
  4. Interestingly, the "San Miguel Ranch Evacuation" is linked to an rural airstrip 40 miles east of Las Vegas, New Mexico! (This fire is much more widespread than I thought! ) Been thinking about all those caches around Blue Sky, Lake Poway, Woodson, Lake Hodges etc.) Assuming that they survived, maybe it'll be easier to get to Mont Saint Michel and Old Glory now... Speaking of Lake Hodges caches, anyone heard from Senior Sleuths? Senior Sleuths checking in. We returned last night from being back east. We hear our home is still there, but it was a very close call. We hear it burned to our property line, but the winds were blowing west and we were east. As for most of my caches, I think they are toast. Our house is just below "A Piece of Cake". We will be at our daughters in Clairemont until they let us come into the area.
  5. A small nudge on this one, please? I do not believe that LLOT has it right.
  6. Here is another suggestion for new YMS cards: A pool of names. The initial pool could be chosen by the maker, say 3-5 names of deserving cachers, where one is drawn to be the current card. When someone finds the udesignit card, they nominate a person to go into the pool... with another random drawing for the card. This will not assure their choice, but they will be in the pool. I think it would be nice if the udesignit card was put into caches without anyones knowledge so it would be a surprise finding it and possibly a new experience for a newer cacher. I still remember the joy of finding the card when I didn't even know what it was.
  7. We just returned from a month in Australia and New Zealand. In NZ we spent 3 weeks driving from the tip of the north island to the bottom of the south island. We stayed in wonderful B&Bs and cached (105 total) in and between cities. The caches took us to places we would have missed. We are not much on touristy things (very expensive) but feel we got to know the country even better through caching and staying at family B&Bs. Anyone who is planning to go to AU/NZ and wants caching or B&B information, we would be glad to help. caching in beautiful New Zealand fence with remains of worn out cachers, cache was in boot
  8. Congratulations to the pqcachers on their 1000th find on their 1000th day of caching. (8/4/06) We joined them in Big Bear for this event and some other caching. The whole family took part in a multi-cache (View on Mt. Sorenson) ending with a beautiful view of Lake Arrowhead.
  9. Darn it. Somebody stole my idea Go for it! This was in NC! I don't know if they are harder to see on screen or if it was just hard. We had 11 relatives trying to "see" it and only 1, plus an e-mail to pqmon got it.
  10. Hey! c'mon, it's a stereogram for cryin' out loud. I can't do it....How far away do you have to be to get it to work? Try this - if you can do that, then you should be able to do any of these. We did this cache while on our cross country trip of 90 caches in 23 states and Canada. Everyone had trouble "seeing" it, but PQmom finally did. link
  11. Just watched the show, how did they contact you? You both are now GEO STARS Good Job. We finally got to watch the show last night. I am still not real sure why we were contacted. The "interviewer" has done some geocaching and had done one of our caches. She said she wanted a couple that cached together, and had found and hidden several caches. She lives in our area and I guess we fit what she was looking for. She did not mention anything about being "seniors", I thought she was gearing it towards families. They wanted us to "find" a cache with an ammo can to show "new" cachers how it was done. Since we had to travel too far or hike too far for a cache we had not done, that fit what she wanted, we chose Rocky Point, which is our cache and "pretended" to find it. It was close by, had an ammo can, and a pretty setting that looked like we were away from civilization. We do not manually put coords into our GPS, but they wanted us to do it that way. She also asked for photos we had taken while geocaching and did include some of them. It was fun to help them film it, but rather embarrassing to watch it. We had no say on how it was edited. So, now you can all go find the "Ribbit, Ribbit".
  12. I found this listing on the San Diego Insider... seniors go crazy for a new treasure hunting pastime; Channel: CA4SD 4 Airing Time: Thu 4/27, 8:00 PM (30 minutes) It's the same Channel 4 SD that shows the Padres games, so it's available on Time Warner cable too (even though the pictures are provided by Cox). It is my understanding that Time Warner people get only the Padre games, not San Diego Insider...for now anyway. If anyone gets it on Time Warner, let us know. I can't even check as we only have basic cable.
  13. It is actually for new cachers but it looks like they are taking advantage of our "Senior" status. Since that is our name, I guess I am not surprised. I didn't even know the name of it....thanks for the info.
  14. For anyone who has Cox Cable, there is a short segment on Geocaching featured on the San Diego Insider. It seems to repeat several times a night through Saturday May 6 (check the TV schedules). We have not seen it yet as we do not have Cox so all I know is they filmed us for 3 hours and it is a 4 minute program.
  15. Your right, this should be on the banter page. I had done that photo a long ago time ago after seeing the original dog. It is not as easy to do as one would think. I left the nose on purpose as it did not look right without it. Give it a try...finding the right dog and the right person is hard. This is my brother and his dog.
  16. Took 3 YMS cards from Indiana Jones-Relic today. Bikedog, Duncan and PassingWind.
  17. Gee, thanks for letting me know we hit 1100. I can't even keep up with my own stats, how do you keep up with everyone elses? I did notice ours our 1111 after last nights Forbidden Forest. And congrats to all those I have missed!
  18. Took a Team Reid missprint from UP^2 today. I first took a regular one from UP and then traded for the missprint.
  19. Wow! What a feat! Hope you are $kimmin' off enough money to help pay for the gas you must be using. BTW, what are your $$ totals these days?
  20. A friend of ours who is totally into "gadgets" bought his wife a GPS for Mother's Day (how's that for a way to get a toy?). She had no interest in it so he was excitedly telling my husband about it. Hubby looked up geocaching.com and found there were several caches on the mountain behind us. We borrowed their GPS to find those caches and ended up keeping it for 3 months. We finally got our own and got hooked on the sport. Our friends however have not gotten the "bug" yet. While our GPS was in repair, we just borrowed theirs again. His wife finally gave their GPS to their son to use. So he gave her another one for her birthday!
  21. It looks like the pqcaching family has been busy and reached the 800 number! Congratulations from Sedona, where the hiking is beautiful with lots of caches hidden under red rocks.
  22. Just happened to spot this on the front page. Great picture. When I see the ocean and not snow, I think I might know the cacher. It is PassingWind and son getting him ready for Mad Eye Moody.
  23. For those of us not fortunate enough to be able to make a real snowman , here is "Tommy Tumbleweed, a California snowman! Enjoy, Rocketman and Kawikaturn!!
  24. Here is the link to that reindeer photo. Actually I am just practicing how to put a link in the text. (link to photo)
