  4. Well to start i own a Garmin Etrex Vista C And well i have started having problems with it, since about 2 weeks ago, whats the problem you say well i turn the unit on ( with fresh battery's) and it boots up just fine and goes to the satellite page i turn on the backlight but after about 30 seconds to 1 min the darn thing shuts down all by its self!! almost like it crashed or something,,it only happends when i turn the back light on,,, I have reseted the unit updated the software on the unit and it does the same thing,, its really annoying to say the least my GPS is useless at night due to this problem!! and i am wondering if any one out there has had the same problem and might be able to help me out of this jam....
  5. I am thinking on placing my4th cache and i wanted it to be a special cache made with the ideas from fellow Geocachers.. it will be placed in an ammo can. and i live on the Oregon coast.. any ideas?? 1.Location. (on the beach, over a steep cliff, in a tree, ect...) 2. The Skill level. ( how well its hid) 3. What type it should be. (Traditional Cache, Multi-Cache. Mystery or Puzzle Cache) ready, set, go...
  6. i am starting to rethink even trying to float an ammo can,,, there is too much risk on damaging the contents in the can and to the can its self.. i think i will go with land caches for now,,
  7. ~Paint~ hmm well i have toyed around with paint and well i let it dry for a good 2 weeks and then sealed with clear boat water proofer before i put in in the water and all i got 2 weeks later was a green ammo can.. it is in salt water,,
  8. if you were to label the underwater (ammo can) cache. is there a way to label the cache so the label won't fall off.. has any one found a good way of doing it??
  9. I do remember seeing one ammo can underwater cache on the forums before and they placed it deep under a dock, and it did not leak much just drops of water in it over a few weeks good luck with your cache
  10. yes even if they were not let out the the public i am working with the council to see if i can do what you guys are doing..
  11. ok i did not put it all on there sorry that i confused anyone.caches are not allowed on scout property and they turned me down on placing a cache even near a scout property a cross the street even!!!
  12. please read this site here SITE! this is the least i pack every time i go out and yeah i have had to use it all in the woods after getting stuck.. I am a member of the boyscouts for over 14 years A member of the clatsop county search and rescue team An emt-b for the state of oregon for 2 years as jeremy said Quit ranting on about it and think!!!!! ok i'm done rant on
  13. hate to be rude.. but um i did drop my gps... (and as the good eagle scout i am) i had my compass.. and got out of the woods alive What makes that different from dropping your compass you say.. well my gps is about $400 more then my compass... and the compass on it is off (way off) to a normal compass and it is more easy to break then a compass.. i go with the boy scout's on that Be Prepared a compass can be your friend... when you need it you people need to learn that ok if you read this site Finding you will see that it says under Step 3 The Hunt: Now you’re ready for the hunt. 1. It should be pretty straightforward to get within a mile or so from the cache (unless it’s deep off-trail). If you’ve done your research, follow the map more than the GPS unit (although we keep ours on the whole time). It’s inevitable that you’ll lose signal from overhanging trees, mountains, etc. 2. If you’re using USFS roads (US Forestry service), the signs for each road can be pretty small in size. Instead of street signs, they’re brown signs that have white writing running vertically. Usually they’re close to the ground. Sometimes you may have to backtrack on the road to locate them. 3. It’s always good to have a compass on hand if your GPS unit doesn’t have one. 4. When you leave your car, mark its location as a waypoint! Sounds silly, but once you get deep into the cache hunt, it’s easy to get disoriented. We’ve learned this from experience! 5. When you get close to the Geocache (within 300 feet, which is the length of a football field), make sure to check your GPS unit signal. Sometimes the signal will have an error between 25-200 feet. Don’t concentrate as much on the arrow as the distance decreasing, as you get closer to the site. 6. For the last 30 feet, use a compass or direct your buddy in the direction of the cache. In some cases we’ve had good luck circling the site with the GPS unit to get a good area to search. 7. The final 30-100 feet is the hardest. It helps to think like the person who hid the cache. If there are stumps around, investigate around the base. Check for a pile of rocks. Some stashes, especially in people-trafficked areas, are pretty ingeniously hidden, so it helps to know the container they used. see right there is your answer carry a map and a compass....
  14. hum so jeremy how many logs are there in a day?? a month, a year?? it would be cool to see it as it happends ( thats after you all get the site servers working again with out problems) and if it is possable to do it like that... just for fun i did the math on it so if there was some one logging at 1 log per sec it will be 1 day around 86,400 logs and about 2,629,743.83 logs per month then 31,556,926 logs a year dang... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- keep up the good work guys reason for edit the stupid
  15. i looked in to it in oregon and its not allowed in the boy scouts here... as of yet
  16. yes i know that defacement is a crime what about the users that are un aware that the stickers are not a requiement it does not say that on the Waymarking site (yet) there is no set guidelines (yet) like in geocaching.com that says what you can't do and what you can do (common sence) and i will be putting up 4 down here as soon as the Subcategorie opens.. firehouses!!!
  17. it has things to do with cito!!! i am asking the community of cito'ers if they think it is littering or not
  18. there are people out there that will do it only time will tell i guess..
  19. i will agree i have about 4 i will add as soon as it is added!!
  20. hi fokes!!! who here in the CITO community think that the Waymarking is littering??? i meen not saying that Waymarking is Bad or any thing its just the concept involves slapping a red-and-white sticker on objects that are part of the natural or built environment, I believe there is already a term for it. It's called littering. And unless I'm missing something, isn't there more than a little irony in that this activity is being promoted by folks who also promote a more responsible activity, namely "Cache In, Trash Out" you see what i am saying i don't want to go to my local town/ park and find 20 Waymarking stickers all over in one place! like tree play ground slide mailbox Phone house car used car lot i can go on and on more of what i am trying to say is there is a time and a place to put Waymarking stickers not that i don't have trust in people its the people that do that kind of thing to mess up a good game by putting up Waymarking stickers everywhere i think it would have been fun for random geocachers put the stickers somewere and have the people go find them and then the next month a new batch can have a go at it and the game can go on and on and we won't have stickers everywere!!! humm not saying its a bad idea lets hear it from you
  21. hum if you read the fourm there are many people that are up in arms about it the stickers are a bad thing is there any way to retool it so is does not involve stickers to be put everywhere???? i meen its bad PR!!! from -artman- i'm sorry but i will have to agree with him!!!!! i don't want to go to my local town/ park and find 20 Waymarking stickers all over in one place! like tree play ground slide mailbox Phone house car used car lot i can go on and on more of what i am trying to say is. There is a time and a place to put Waymarking stickers not that i don't have trust in people, Its the people that do that kind of thing to mess up a good game by putting up Waymarking stickers everywhere!! I think it would have been fun for random geocachers put the stickers somewere and have the people go find them and then the next month a new batch can have a go at it and the game can go on and on and we won't have stickers everywere!!! humm not saying its a bad idea lets hear it from you
