  1. George Orwell was down and out in Paris and London so I'll have a punt at that badger...
  2. I've been away - have we moved on from kittens?
  3. It's the name of the inventor or inventors - can't remember what without looking it up but was it someithing like LEif GOrenson Clang Oh no it isn't

  5. ...but if you put a plastic bag through a laser printer you can chip it off after it has gone cold Not forgetting that a lot of electronic things don't mind being wet - until you touch a button to see if they still work. Generally best to stick wet kit it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days before you touch anything - if it's bust it was bust already anyway, if it is OK you've probably avoided busting it by trying it out while wet to see if it still works Haven't used them yet but there seem to be a few sites around to fix problems that make people throw PDAs away - e.g. inverted screens/won't charge up/cracked screens/touchscreens/failed backlights etc
  6. Hmm - one or two more than me then If the satellites are like the paper used for printing out cache sheets (Geostationary) then are we effectively on the Vienetta tram on speed so negating Albert = no effect
  7. You need to rename the MM mark's associated file to \cmate:GC**** but GSAK exports contain the geocaching.com URL and I can't find a way to export the \cmate.. to MM instead. Sounds GSAK macroable but I'm too thick
  8. Yup - agree with that. They're a nice toy in the field and can be useful walking if the well trodden path isn't where the OS would like it to be - you can see that you are on the real path and that the dots on the map aren't. Don't add anything to hunting the Tupperware itself (but fun if you can get some innocent standing on an obvious ground feature on a clear day to look up and wave )
  9. Been using a iPAQ 2790 with a TomTom receiver- not had it long but seems like the canines attributes compared to the 3630 I'd been using Doesn't seem to be widely advertised but there are 2 versions - one with 256Mb total and the other with 384Mb total (HP part numbers FA677B and FA678T but a lot of retailers seem to have their details muddled up (I think the FA678T is AKA the 2790b unlike the FA677B - good choices ) I believe the #ABU after the part number indicates that it is a UK model rather than an import I run MM2004 off a 2Gb CF card. I spent ages trying (clumsily I suspect) to get WM5 to run MM 2004 and TT Navigator 5 together then tried GPS Gate and it ran out of the box so haven't been back to try via WM5 again (MM + the TT receiver needed the sIRF III fix from the MM support pages (thanks again team ) Not impossible to make it hang but rare once it is going. Has needed a soft reset sometimes if the On button doesn't wake it up. I've seen it alluded to on some forums but haven't bothered pursuing the fix. Haven't tried cachemate - but I suspect I may be soon
  10. Hint, it's to do with something that a (long) past guest did, before (not) giving his lecture. Do you have to pat a plaque or have a drink to someone who dropped in the anteroom?
  11. Well done! We've got relatives near Cardiff and so we're glad you've had time to get out so many great caches too! (And help out one of our ailing TBs [] Good luck with the next 500
  12. Wow - an antique pokey stick - wonder how much one of those is worth these days
  13. Was that the smallish meteor strike that flattened a largish chunk of siberia??
  14. 74. The people responsible for setting the standard were especially find of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, and so set the standard to that a CD would be able to accommodate that piece of music. That's a crystal clear but some would say less rich than analogue DING The official Philips version is that it was going to be 60 minutes to match the Compact Cassette format which would accommodate most LPs but the Sony Vice President wanted to to encompass Beethoven's 9th, the average length of which was 66 mins but the longest version was 74 mins which took them from 11.5cm to 12cm. Cynics would point out that Philips owned Polygram which had a factory set up to produce 11.5cm CDs which Sony didn't have - but they both had to start de novo to produce 12cm ones after Sony pushed for 12cm/74 mins - 74 for the 9th is the Philips answer DIN-GaGaGaGaGaGaGaGa - hmm, scratched
  15. DING Close enough, although variants are used all over the dales & round about. I was working from the Swaledale version myself. I live & learn How many minutes of music were CDs designed to hold - and why (We'll go for the official Philips version but points will be awarded for the other version )
  16. Pimp! (Not casting nasturtiums on your character) It's a sheep tallying system from Keswick/Borrowdale - as found in a book I got from a cache in Cumbria
  17. Doesn't matter as long as they change up or change even
