  1. I don't know what I can add that hasn't already been pointed out, but I want to add my voice to the chorus and say that I find the new layout annoying, ugly, and painful to use.
  2. This thread has been both amusing and enlightening. I log discovers/not founds on travelers, both coins and bugs, as there are far too many of them going missing in this area. Case in point, I dropped a coin last night into one of my own caches... this morning it is gone and not logged out, no log entry for the cache either... my money says it is never getting logged. I now log every traveler I see. Sometimes I'll move them, sometimes I won't, but it leaves a current record of when/where the traveler was last seen/disappeared so the owner can do whatever they will. I have so far received either silence or thanks/info requests from the owners. Yep, logging "discovers" helps. I have never attended an event. Stats? Is there a prize or something? Maybe a merit badge or goofy hat? Or is it just for bragging rights? I couldn't help but laugh as I imagined a mob of cachers trying to log a pile of coins/bugs at an event -- and bickering over who had "actually" discovered it first. Just not my cup-o-tea. I'm in it for the hunt, the creative and evil hides, the adventure of finding new places, the outdoor fun and exercise, and I also log my DNF's cuz, yep, they help too. Happy Hunting!
  3. I've been a little torqued by the silence from Lil Devil as well. I'm glad I found GPX Spinner *after* he abandoned his paypal account -- after reading these posts, I think I understand why he did it, though I disagree with his action -- Anyway, I've heard many good things about GSAK so I think I'll give it a try... I like to support useful shareware...
  4. Well, I've tried emailing Lil Devil several times about registering GPX Spinner. His website says that PayPal registration is temporarily disabled, (since 8/16/08). He doesn't reply, though the email address is still active... the best I can figure out is that he has lost interest and can't be bothered with it anymore. If it's any help, once the nagware delays become intolerable, you can simply remove, then reinstall GPX Spinner and a new grace period will begin. Cheers, Wood_Rat
  5. I use a Garmin Geko 201 (real basic GPSr). I download the gpx files, then I run them through gpxspinner to create html webpages, then I use plucker to change them into pdb files that I hot sync to my palm. It works great and the files are very easy to read/navigate on the palm. http://www.plkr.org/download http://www.gpxspinner.com/download/ Cheers!
  6. Since I have a Geko 201... I don't have to worry about mapping ;-) I just approach using the compass screen and when the pointer starts getting weird, I walk away and approach from another angle... after a few attempts, I know where ground zero is and I put away the GPSr...
  7. That seems to fit the idea of "if you take something, leave something of equal or greater value."
  8. I would only add that it depends on how much "gadget" you want. I am a minimalist at heart. I am using a Geko 201, which I bought from a pawn shop for $60, and a small 3x5 note pad and pencil. I get 11-12 hours from two 'AAA' batteries and only turn the GPS on after I arrive onsite using map and compass. Cheers!
