  1. The reason PVC pipe caches that have screw on lids leak is because the threads on the end caps are tapered threads. That is if you look closley at them they are sort of triangular shaped. They are designed that way so that they will not loosen up once they are tight. I use wax on one I have near my house and every once in awhile I have to re-wax it but since its within walking distance its not a problem. It seems to stay water proof when I keep the wax on it but it leaks otherwise.
  2. These are all cool ...but how do they get approved? I thought you had to be able to maintain a cache to ba able to get it approved.
  3. the master lock would make a good puzzle cache container
  4. Here is my golf ball cache...and I dont even play golf...its also a container that I camoed with dirt...LOL Oklahoma Only GOlf Ball cache!
  5. you lost me about 1/2 way through that one....
  6. here is an idea WITHOUT any type of rope....I have done one like this in Michigan... the cache container had a wire loop connected to it...a rather large loop...then the the owners hid two straight branches nearby...one had they had written on it "opps not long enough" and the other branch had a shoe string tied to it and a small hook. you had to tie the two branches (which where actually one that had been carefully broke in half) together and then reach up with the hook and unhook the cache that was hanging on a very straight and narrow tree on a little limb. Getting it and putting it back was actually a challenge but it was a fun cache the container was small but I have an idea to improve on it by using a larger container and 2-3 pieces of 1 inch PVC pipe painted and camoed and one with a hook on the end...you could then glue copulers to the ends of the pipe and then just push the 2-3 pipes together to get up high enough...the pipes would offer more strength to lift the container off its branch.
  7. I dont have any picts but I use natural tree limbs from the area I am going to place the cache....then I use that camo paint from walmart...start with a solid color of light...then I lay branches over it and the paint the other colors until I am satisfied...whle moving the branches and sticks around to cause the pattern to break up....
  8. OK...I wondered about that price and come to think about it I have seen a couple that where not closed properly when I found them... I guess becoming a supplier for them at that price would be a bad idea then...
  9. yep..I found out this way also that glue guns dont work for gluing anything to anything that is going to be in the cold...my cammo on my first highly camoed container fell off too...Im just glad I put the thing in the front yard first to see how it was goign to weather.
  10. I think I might have a source for decon containers. Would 2-3 bucks plus shipping be worth it or is that too expensive?
  11. Ahh, there lies the beauty of sadistic hides. There's always something that gives it away. Personally, I'd like to see grey condiut and the give away is that it moves or that its the only one in the entire park. A "real" outlet wouldn't even wiggle. I suppose it depends on the type of hides in your area. However, its an important that all my hides come apart without tools. I agree on the part of coming apart without tools. I admit I am getting more into the sadistic hides more then ever. and this one definalty moves when you touch it. its only anchored about 6 inches in the ground and a 4x4 post like this would not move if it was "real" and I agree some people are dumb or do dumb stuff, I do it all the time...
  12. the pocket queries where why I joined also.... One other enticing privledge might be a resettable mileage log on your own travel bugs....I started a thread in the travel bug forum before seeing this post...
  13. not really. The conduit is plastic white PVC instead of greay as by code but if you didnt know that then there is rally no other way to tell once the leaves settle in around it. If they write me I will give them a clue but otherwise how often have you uprooted items to look for a geocache?
  14. this way you dont make other mad by deleting logs AND you have a way to personally do what ever you want to do with mileage...such as when one is lost and you use the copy tag.
  15. I had an after thought when I posted to the other question Maybe resetting the mileage log could be a great premium member benefit?? There could be a cumulative log like the one that is currently used and a "user" log where the premium member could reset it and use it for personal reasons. Not saying to delete the logs people have wrote but just the mileage.
  16. I am new to TB and only have one (its stuck by the way ) anyhow resetting the mileage would be a great user option. Not deleate the logs but just the mileage.
  17. yes..I had a long wait on my last cache...almost 1 1/2 weeks if I remember right. Does Oklahoma need another approver? how do you become an approver?
  18. ugh..too far north for me...but if I am in the area I will try if I have time...no 4x4 though..:-(
  19. another note is that you dont want to overcharge the NiMH batteries. If you overcharge them they will out gas and you will loose capacity. That is why you should use a recomended charger. On another note...I read an article that told you how to get the most out of your rechargables. When you buy new ones use them in pairs and charge them in pairs...that is mark them and then keep them together when you charge and use them, if you mix them the weaker of the two will bring down the stronger of the two...and then the weaker will become reversed charged once it goes dead which is a bad thing... Alos sometimes a new NiMH battery is hard to charge. I have some I put in a small trickle type charger for a week and they never charged. I eventually had to put them in my larger charger and kept reseting them to charger for 3 days. Eventually they took a charge and they work great now. here is the article... Battery info
