You probably won't understand until you've put some caches out yourself. Particularily caches that you've gone to some length to hide. Please avoid snarkiness until then. I will be as snarky as I want. Why? Because.......wait for it.......I am ME~ The bottom line is I am an adult and think like an adult and wouldn't get my itty bitty feelings hurt because everyone doesn't pat me on the back for the wonderful cache I placed. It's there for people to find. I would never place something for the general population to find, just to get an ego boost. Anyone who is insulted by a few short "logs" is a little sensitive when you consider........wait for it........the BIG picture. Come on....grow a thicker skin.

You've not hidden a cache, so I guess you really wouldn't know what is like, huh? Nice attempt at a cheap shot but I assure you that I can imagine what it would be like to have miniscule notations of my caches. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest because........wait for it........I'm not a whiner.

Kit, I like the way you think. If you hide a P&G, expect P&G type logs. If you hide something that requires actual effort to get to, you will likely be rewarded with longer logs. It's been working for me for years. I agree with both of you, but what frustrates me (and what spurred me to write the post that Kit linked to) is when you have a fantastic cache, one of the best in your area, and you get the "Found with Lunkhead. TFTC". My question is.... So what?

If that was how the game was played, 75% of the caches would disappear.

I have found something that I think people will enjoy (I hope). I have a source for wonderful quality Cubic Zirconia stones. I am sure that they won't last in the caches for long. The stones will be about 1ct each so they will be pretty large. I will see how it goes and possibly make it my signature item.

Definately an ALR. "You must have an interesting log or you will be deleted" I can't imagine this person would be allowed to do this for long.

Yup, there's nothing quite as fun as wasting someone elses time.

Here is my goal with hiding (though I have yet to hide my first one). I want it to be FUN as a main priority but I get a kick out of finding something hiding almost in plain sight while people randomly walk by. To date, the best cache I have found was in plain sight and I looked for it for 20 minutes. I laughed because there were probably 1000 people walking past it every day. I would want my caches to be found by geocachers but passed by muggles. JMO

Some would accept your challenge with open arms but not me. There is someone near me hiding caches and misleading about the difficulty. After finding one of four of his caches, coming up blank on the other 3 I searched for, I removed his caches from my searches. I will do that with anyone who thinks its fun to skunk people. JMO

Thank you Bittsen. I'm not sure if the first part is sarcasm or not, but I'll take it as not. I'm ordering a box from e-bay right now. At the very least I'll have something on-hand to replace torn bags with. It wasn't sarcasm at all. I thought it was a great idea.

Reviving this thread.... I don't normally take swag, just because. I do look at the swag in the caches and like to mentally record the things I see. Sometimes I am a little disappointed. I was thinking of adding seashells I got from Maui to the caches that have swag in them. What is your opinion on the shells? When I was a kid, I LOVED to find seashells. What other kinds of swag are great to place?

The right thing to do is, first, contact the owner and explain what happened and offer to replace them. Personally, I would offer to replace them over removing them from inventory. You can buy a new travel bug and give the info to the owner of the missing bugs so they can register it and make the appropriate comments to link it to the stolen bug. Groundspeak might even do some editing to change the number so it would be a seamless transition. I know this isn't fun but when you took the bugs, you took a responsibility to keep them safe. Just an opinion.

Why would the cache be cared for by "the community" rather than having it adopted? I'm sure if the original owner can't care for the cache then they would be open to adoption. Archiving was an option, not an absolute. For the owner to just walk away from it and let it decay (or force the community to take care of it) is the same as abandoning a pet. (not from a PETA point of view.. ~L~). The person who abandons caches shouldn't be allowed to own caches. IMHO

If you don't want to look for muriatic acid, just sand it and scrub it with vinegar. Place outside and spray every once in a while with vinegar. Bleach will corrode the metal as well as making it rust. All rust is is oxidized iron. You just need an oxide. ~L Basically, any acid will do the job. Vinegar is acetic acid. You could use lemon juice...orange juice....pineapple juice.... you get the idea.
