  1. Found this old thread and I thought I'd throw in my complaint. Bought an eTrek Vista in 2008. After less than a year the rubber started coming off. Garmin replaced it under warranty. A year later it's coming off again. It's no longer under warranty. Garmin offered to repair it for $50. But the offered no explanation about why this might have happened. I think I'll try the carpet tape or auto adhesive suggestions offered above.
  2. Great! Then I'll claim the 1,000,000th cache. Let's call GC24NAC the official millionth cache. Actually, I'm sure that Groundspeak recognizes the public relations implications of being able to advertise a millionth cache. At a minimum they could pick a cache at random from the 2000 which were approved yesterday and tell everyone that said cache was selected to officially represent the millionth geocache. PN
  3. When I view one of these maps, I'd like to be able to get StreetView directly: http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx...;lng=-87.062583 Many GPS's calculate an "accuracy" when determining their location. Under heavy trees mine sometimes shows readings as poor as "50 ft." Meaning that the GPS is only confident that it knows the proper location within 50 ft. But in good weather, with a favorable satellite constellation overhead, it will show a 10 ft. accuracy. It would be nice know know how well the GPS was working for the guy who posted the coordinates. If his coordinate has a 50 ft. accuracy, I'll need to search a much wider area. If his coordinate has a higher confidence level, the search area is much smaller. Accuracy of the reading of the cache owner's GPS and my GPS will need to be combined as the square root of the sum of the squares. (That is, if we've both got a 10 ft. accuracy the cache will probably be located within 10 * sqrt(2) from the coordinate I'm reading as ground zero.) Why not include altitude? Is it on the ground? Is it in a tree? Is it over the side of a cliff? Makes sense to me. PN
  4. Can we get StreetView in the google map setup shown from Geocaching.com? It's a lot of trouble to copy coordinates over to Google Maps and then select streetview. When will geocaching.com start providing altitude with the coordinates? When will geocaching.com start listing the GPS accuracy reading of the posted coordinates? Thanks!
  5. It is possible to search for all caches found by another user. Is it possible to turn that search into a pocket query? I'd like to quickly map my friend's caching adventures. (And try to keep up!) thanks! Paul
  6. with my Colorado I can store 2000caches with the discriptin hints and past logs. My point exactly. There's no reason why the eTrex series shouldn't be able to do that. It's really not a lot of data compared to what the little device is capable of.
  7. I think that a free online registration is more likely to allow random muggles access to cache location. If someone bothers to spend 10 bucks on software, they're probably a bit more serious about caching than "EVERYONE".
  8. Cool. Maybe this will push Garmin to add some more useful geocaching functionality to their devices. For example, I don't understand why - given that I have enough memory in my gps to store the location and name of every street in the country (2 GB) - I can't save more than 30 characters of text with a waypoint. A full cache description and hints would be great. PN
