  1. Leatherman Juice. along with a selection of blades and tools it has scissors that are really handy for cutting mole skin and food packages. Also tweezers for removing those nasty ticks.
  2. I always take a few bagels, individual peanut butter, and jelly packs. I eat my granola dry. Last time out I tried the pre-cooked rice packages that are ment to be microwaved. I just put them in my pot of hot water, stirred once in a while till warm, not to bad for trail food, but heavier than dehydrated. When putting meals and snacks in ziplocks, I use a straw to suck out the air for more compact packing.
  3. Along with the normal stuff, I carry some small rope in case I have to tie some sticks around a broken limb for a splint. (words of experience). Like some of the others, I also carry pain meds and super glue.
  4. On 7-21-07 while coming down off 12009 ft Hyndman Peak in the Pioneer Mountains of Idaho, I met two cachers at 11000 ft on their way up. This is a remote cache with only half a dozen logs. Out of my 267 finds, this was the 3rd time I have met cachers while out caching.
  5. Santa brought me a Garmin Legend that I helped her order a while back. I've been lurking the forums for a while trying to get educated. I think I've picked up some pretty good info from you guys, thanks. My daughter and I went out on the 27th and found our first cache easily. On the attempt for our 2nd, our luck was'nt so good. I kept getting odd-ball readings. The unit would read somthing like 20' E, so I would go a few feet E and then it read 30' N, go north. then W and so on. We just searched the entire area but had no luck. It was a cloudy, windy day here in Southern ID, would that cause the sporadic readings?
  6. Ex Farmer, currently a Control Room Trainee at a sugar factory in Idaho. My wife Lisa works for the county assessor's Office.
  7. Spark or Sparky were already taken. (my wife's pet names for me) So I tried something spy like.
  8. I have been lurking around for about a month or so, trying to educate myself in the sport of geocaching. I dropped a hint to Santa Clause that I really needed a gps unit. I think she ordered a Garmin e-trex Legend from Amazon last night (hope that,s a good one?). I will continue lurking and learning, looking forward to Christmas and hopefully finding my first cache. So far I haven,t seen the negative posts or feedback that some of you mention. My first impressions of forums have been good and I look forward to visiting often. Thanks to all who contribute!
