  1. He's what I have discovered. I have 2 pc's running XP. If mapsource 5.4 is setup, every GPS will talk with Mapsource on both pc's. When I load 6.1 or 6.3 upgrade to mapsource my 60 will talk both serial and usb. My GPSMAP76 and V will not talk using send to, receive from or get id. The 76 and V will however work if I set mapsource up to track on the GPS tab. My pc's are desktop so I never move but the info is there. Gave techsupport this info, they finially stated that there is a problem with some pc's using the serial port on version 6. They stated this should be fixed with the next release. My problem does not appear to be pc hardware. It appears to be related to mapsource 6.? or the way the older gps's talk to mapsource.
  2. I was able to download 6.3, I still am not able to talk to the V or the 76. I was able after a few tries able to talk to my 48 and can always talk to the 60. Have resent email to Garmin asking for help...
  3. Got an email back from Garmin, I was told that the new firmware (6.3) should take care of the serial port problems, We will see, I cant get to Garmin to download...
  4. I sent on 6-26-04 the following to Garmin... I am having a problem with mapsource 6.1. I have a 60cs, V and GPSMAP 76. They all have their respective current version firmware. They are all optioned for Garmin interface. With 6.1, the 60cs will be found using the serial port (works fine also USB). 6.1 will not find the V or the 76 either finding ID or uploading/downloading. Once in a great while it might find one of these (1 in 100 tries). With 5.4 loaded, all GPS's work fine first time everytime. Since 6.1 changed file type, switching back and forth from 6.1 to 5.4 a back does not work very well. I have city select and roads & Rec loaded. Thanks inadvace for your help. Steve Peterson I have been watching the forums and have not seen anyone having trouble. I was on the phone with Garmin tech support and got about as far as having Palm hotsync running caused problems. This helped the first time I tried to connect, but failed everytime after that. Waiting for a reply from Garmin.
  5. Most Garmins are the same. On the map page move the pointer to the first spot you want a waypoint on your route, press and hold the mark button (Enter I believe) untill the waypoint screen appears. Save it. Do all your way points to your destination. Then go to Routes and create a route and insert the waypoints you created. To get to routes I believe it is menu, menu..
  6. I have a gpsmap 76 and wanted a color gps. I preordered a 76c. when I stopped in a local store they had a 60c so I looked at it. I liked the feel of it better than the 76, so I canceled the 76c and ordered the 60cs. If you are using mapsource topo you can probably get all of Texas on the 60. The biggest factor is what feels good to you. Reading other sites like Yahoo 76cs group, both the 60 & 76c or 76cs have the same fireware down to the games. Hope this helps.
  7. Make me an offer on just the 48, I have other options on the other pieces. I wont be able to answer until 2/17, going lake trout fishing this weekend
