  1. Have you been interested in hiding a geocache, but didn't know where to start? I have built several caches which are already stocked and ready to go, but I haven't had the time to get out and hide them due to being a single mother! Ammo cans (two sizes) and a couple lock-n-locks, whichever you prefer. Need some extra cash, and these need to be hidden and enjoyed! Price open for negotiation. Need some extra cash, and these need to be hidden and enjoyed! Would be great to raffle off at your next event I don't know how often I will be able to check the forums, but please send me a message if interested.
  2. I found great deals on sets from QVC online of all places! Set of 6 for $14.63 worked great for us.
  3. Aww, that totally made my night. Glad I opened this thread!
  4. I don't know if this is really the most appropriate area for this.....but my travel bug (TB29J6F) that was logged into the event cache has still not been "found" after the event.
  5. I'm pretty sure I've seen this vehicle in my area too, north on Hwy 9 between Arlington and Mount Vernon. We were also caching that day, but we were already running late to pick up the geo-kidlet or we would have turned around! Hmmmmm, but I actually think the white CRV we spotted had a travel bug sticker in the back window (bottom left) and not a Groundspeak sticker....?
  6. I am so glad to see this post! I have wanted to start a similar thread myself. We are currently well on our way to finding 100 in less than 100 WITHOUT a GPSr! And some have been the kind where you walk a trail deep into the woods and/or bushwack; I am actually quite proud of those finds. Not realizing that there were technical terms for what we were doing, I guess our method is similar to those already stated. We only use the cache listing and the map on the listing to find caches so far. I get a good sense of the area from the map and sometimes change it to satellite view to get a landmark of some sort. I grew up in this area, and know it very well. On some occasions, just by reading the listing I already know where I am headed off to. My honey served as a Marine and is my measurement system of sorts. Whatever distance I may find in a listing or get from a map - I send him off and it makes him feel good. I am an investigator by trade, and usually it's very easy to spot where cachers have been, or want to be, once you are in the right area. I pull clues from the cache listings and people's logs where they don't even realize they probably helped. It's fun to me. And honestly, with how well I know the area, I think using a GPSr would be cheating for me at this point. So each and every find of ours has had extensive research put into it. Not just punching in some numbers and heading off. I am committed to finding at least 100 before ever using a GPSr, more if I can get the honey to agree! I would love to talk to anyone else that hunts without coordinates! I am not often in the forums, but feel free to email me through my profile anytime.
  7. Email sent if there are still some to asign. Nice of you to share, thanks!
  8. Have you tried contacting other local cachers in your area to see if anyone is planning a trip this way by any chance?
  9. Considering it had come up in EVERY other thread I have posted in thus far (other than coin sales), I thought I already was trying to avoid it by being specific. Just because we hunt without one, doesn't mean we don't have access to one or might even own one. I didn't mention it in my original post on purpose, and added it after receiving some appreciated feedback more as a tidbit of information or conversation piece.
  10. Yeah, well.....I tried to work the quote thing. Oh well
  11. I think that pretty much sums it up, senses and powers of observation. I honestly have not looked up too many areas outside of Washington State, but I am guessing we may be overloaded in my area compared to some. I am within 60 miles (give or take, I am honestly just throwing a number out there) from Groundspeak. I would think that there may be a lot more in my local areas than others. So far I really haven't branched out too far from where I grew up and where I live now. There are many to choose from, I still have towns on my list to even begin and I know the area very well. That being said, we only use the cache listing and the map on the listing to find caches so far. And honestly, with how well I know the area, I think using a GPSr would be cheating for me at this point. I would love to talk to anyone else that hunts without coordinates. The GPSr we have to place caches is a Garmin eTrex. I don't know the model name, I do know the numbers on the back (haven't bothered to look it up). I do know that when my other half was "testing" it, he got really lost That's a story for him to tell though. It's about 3 years old, still a yellow version? You can see how much I know about them LOL But I have gotten great ideas for FTF prizes that don't make me stress (scratch tickets, awesome idea!). I hope that I get a few of these caches I have in mind published. I have a great prize (unregistered trackable, so glad I don't have to worry about more than one!) in mind for the FTF all of the caches placed on the same date. You don't even have to be FTF a single one.
  12. And to avoid all of this is why I was only asking about FTF prizes and a few specific questions.....I honestly hope to never hunt with a GPS, there is no fun in that for me. Sure there are many ignorant people, but assuming that someone did not take the time to inform themselves or assuming they are simply uneducated is pretty insulting. Especially as it seems to happen everywhere I turn around here.
  13. A lot of you have given us so many ideas. I also feel a lot better about all of this too. And come on.....I know we all deal with ignorant people, but do you really think I'd try to hide a cache without coordinates? I'm getting tired of hearing it.....
  14. Received our coins today, thanks again!
  15. Well we typically cache sans GPS, so doubt I'll ever be FTF....so I didn't really know a lot of this. You are giving me ideas though, thank you. That does kind of bring up another question for me....is it acceptable to put a small, unopened bottle of water in an ammo can on a long hike? Figured that one I should ask. Thanks for your feedback!
  16. We are currently in the planning stages of our first caches. Yes, caches. From what I can gather thus far, not all of my ideas may make it, so might as well have more than one - right? We are still pretty new at caching, but are OBSESSED. I don't know what milestone I need to cross before I'm not a "newbie" in some of your eyes, but I know I'm a newbie hider! My first question that I need help with.....what would some of you experienced cachers feel an appropriate FTF item would be from a newbie hider? Any suggestions are appreciated! I have containers I need to fill!!!!
  17. And why must you add more after I already ordered? Good thing payday is still a ways off or I would be in trouble! I was having a bad day, but my mailbox made it MUCHO better. Thank you so much!!! These are great coins and pathtags too. I don't know if I can handle another addiction yet....we'll see which one grows. Thanks again!
  18. Thanks so much for being so willing to work with me! Yeah....and thanks for further enabling my just growing addiction!
  19. Thanks for the great deals, can't wait to get them!
  20. YAY! Thank you so much =) Hope this stuck in your mind for the right reasons.....LOL Half-Canadian - Thanks! I grew up in this area, and at this rate it almost seems like getting a GPS for local caches might be cheating for me! We found #60 without a GPSr today. Even more memorable, we got caught by a police officer (in my hometown even)! He at least knew what we were talking about when we said we were geocaching, but knew enough that he asked where our GPS was. That was good, "Well actually, we don't use one...." What was even better, there were a few fake police badges in the cache! I know we're going to be out of town the weekend of the Lynden event.....don't know if there's anything in store yet for November? It's ok, I hope to plant our caches before then. Maybe I'll just have to lurk around those
  21. With a 20mth old son we have yet to make it to an event. We keep trying though! In a few more months it will be MUCH easier. We are currently building our first cache - yay! We're contemplating that if no one has picked them up by the time we get it ready to place, into the cache they will go. We are also hoping that through our TB and its mission we might hear some great stories and meet other cachers to share and talk about this wonderful hobby. Our friends and family whom do not cache are probably getting sick of hearing about it. Thanks everyone!
  22. What? Is this kind of thing not allowed? Sorry that I was excited to release some coins and travel bugs for the first time. I thought it was a good thing to have some passion about your hobbies. Next time someone else tries to spread some excitement or have a little fun or wants to laugh about something, I'll make sure to stomp all over them too. Was the sarcasam not clear enough? Wow.
