Looks like a Raleigh Chopper I used to have in 1970, except mine wasn't so rusty!

I think a 60c(s) and a web-enabled cell phone does the trick nicely - and for a lot more than just geocaching. The 60c(s) by itself doesn't hold enough info if you need hints or logs to find a cache.

I have the same problem and haven't fixed it yet (or tried to). I sent in a support request at the garmin web site and never heard back. Just haven't had time to pursue it yet. Hope you find a solution and share it here! There are a couple of threads buried in here about it already, suggesting ways to make the batteries fit tighter.

Wow, that's great!

Use and prefer a Garmin GPSMAP® 60CS here.

I remember that commercial, and I'm willing to accept that gal as an alternate prize to the Wrangler. My wife may think otherwise tho'. Well, here, you can enjoy her from afar - we won't tell your wife: Jeep commercials

I had the same problem today with a multi-cache - I entered all the waypoints by hand (not using the geocache symbol). As I approached each waypoint, the big arrow would get crooked and point the wrong way. I didnt' know about the bearing vs course pointer and it was the course pointer. But how I worked around it was to add "pointer" as one of the data fields and used that arrow. I'm going to try switching the big pointer to "bearing pointer" to see if that helps next time.

Does Anyone Else Think The 60cs Compass Stinks?
TFTC replied to TeamJiffy's topic in GPS technology and devices
Ah, that might explain the strange things I experienced today on a multi-cache. My pointer was all over the place and wasn't even a straight line as I approached my waypoints (entered by hand and didn't use the geocaching symbol). I ended up changing one of the data fields to pointer and used that one (which was different than the big one). I'll have to try switching it to Bearing Pointer next time. -
Congratulations!

How do I contact Garmin? This is a serious problem for me - the thing shuts off just cruising down the street. I can't even drive "more smoothly" to prevent it.
-
Did you ever find a solution? I just tried mine today and had the same problem. Those batteries look like they are in there pretty tight though.
-
That would be oh so stupid as I often have my GPSr on top of my backpack just to log the track. That way it would power off in the middle of the trip. I also think that given the MUCH improved battery life of the GPSMAP 60 series this is really not needed. How about a setting to power off the unit at a certain time, like 8pm?

We have a cheap web-enabled cell phone (meaning it came free with the service). That and a GPSr is all you need. On edit: I should mention we have a 60cs so that takes care of the maps. We use the cell phone for getting the cache description, hints and logs.

We've got a 60cs. It's great but we haven't had enough caching time lately to give it a good workout. We've done a few benchmarks but since their coords are way off, it's not a good test. We've used it a lot for autorouting in the car though and it excels at that!! Previously we were using a borrowed Legend which worked great for caching too. What the 60cs lets us do is go paperless - all we need is the GPSr and a (very) cheap web-enabled cell phone.

Maybe a sidecar with a laptop mount!

There's only so much space on a motorcycle!
-
Thank you, that's pretty much the kind of laptop I'd like. I'd use my desktop for regular work and stuff and this just for hitting the road.
-
Ha, right along a bike race route? That's like an open invitation for the b*b squad! This'll be a fun cache to watch!

Will Your Cache Survive "the Big One?"
TFTC replied to New England n00b's topic in General geocaching topics
Uh, are there mirrors to geocaching.com in place? -
Bummer, well, good luck next time! I want a laptop, but I want a small one.
-
Sounds like a good candidate for a setting.
-
Can you be more specific, as I just got my new ones and am about to try one. Thanks!
-
There already is. It's called http://www.waypoint.org. I think he meant something usable! I can see virtuals becoming a spin-off of geocaching.com like benchmarks are. They probably just shouldn't be mixed into the normal geocache database.

I wish they'd increased the notes size

What is it about it that you didn't like using it?
