  1. Looks like a legitimate FTF for RAMMJET - how could the hider expect anyone not to find it when they were told where it was? A couple of weeks ago, we stumbled onto the final waypoint of a multi-cache we weren't even looking for. Granted, that may have been frustrating for subsequent finders if it had been a FTF on a difficult puzzle cache, but a find is a find unless it is a DNF!
  2. Hmm, must be a potential FTF if it's worth finding in the rain!
  3. I deleted the log - I did what I could to avoid it - but I sent the logger an email with their log in it corrected to show the TB ID instead of the number so they can just paste it into a new log.
  4. Thanks, great idea - just did it!
  5. Question on how to handle logs that include TB #'s - we've emailed the cachers but in the meantime the # is exposed - how long before we should just delete the log or what does "permanently encrypt" do? Hopefully the cacher will just edit the log soon. It happens to be our cache and our TB so it's our risk to take if the number just hangs out there for a while. P.S. Rocket Man - you've got some in one of your caches too: I SPY I-5 P.P.S. Please don't any of you log zillions of miles on our TB!
  6. Whoops, I'd better get out my bribe stash too, as I just noticed that the checkmarks go away but the cache icons remain! Doh!
  7. It seems to work for me - if I go to a map from a search results page, then uncheck the You Found/Own* box on the right and then click the map (with Pan selected), the found icons disappear.
  8. I'm afraid my math skills need polishing and I'm not following how you get a lat/long out of those formulas (assuming you pass a lat/long back to terraserver as a new center)! It looks like something got lopped off since there is no opening parenthesis on each line. Are those just the adjustment factors? Should it end up something like this? $newLat = $oldLat + ($height/2 - $click[1])*0.000009*$mmp[$zoom] Thanks for any insight!
  9. Hehe, we like to see how many people pass them by before someone picks them up! On edit: Also, we can see if anyone reports them missing (we lost two and took a long time to figure it out).
  10. I'm using my watch list also to watch caches containing our TB's. It would be nice to separate them. I'm hoping for something a little bit more functional, with a way to perhaps arrange the order of the list. Will that be something we can do with our Favorites (e.g. this one is my very, very favorite!)? On edit: also, I don't really need email notifications for every visit to my To-Do cache list. Nor My Favorite caches, come to think of it!
  11. I wouldn't mind seeing a To-Do list as well, which could be limited to caches you haven't logged as Found. And it would be nice to be able to add caches from someone's Favorites to your To-Do list.
  12. Marky, how did you do the map re-center on click? I can't quite wrap my mind around converting pixel offset to a lat/long offset. Thanks for any info!
  13. http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/articles/1166676.html High-tech hobby sets off security turmoil at LAX Geocaching, a game that combines GPS devices and scavenger hunting, raised red flags at the airport last week. By Ian Gregor and Nick Green Daily Breeze Jay Furr was participating in a high-tech treasure hunt. Police mistook him for a possible terrorist. And so Furr's quick dash to Los Angeles International Airport last week turned into an hours-long ordeal that saw him spread-eagled against a police car, handcuffed, locked in a jail cell and interrogated by police and FBI agents, curious as to why a large, bearded man was lurking alone with a global positioning system in a secluded area near the state's top terrorist target. [snip - see article for rest] on edit: - i see there is already another thread about this - please delete
  14. The URL to a travel but looks like this: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=45145 Make sure you use the link as it appears in My Cache Page (Id=xxxx) and not the number on the TB tag! I put links to TB's in any TB logs I make just by sticking the URL right in the log, no special code required there.
  15. Hmm, they are lagging on getting the ads on their web site. Maybe because they are still on the air.
  16. I also have a travel bug AWOL in DC. If anyone could help rescue it, please check out the log by Keystone Approver here: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=74009
  17. Is it actually sharkskin or are they just saying that?
  18. I'm not actively writing an application but I might want to once there is a sandbox to play in!
  19. That little orange thing in the hole the battery compartment door lock hooks into looks interesting - mine does not have that.
  20. I took a block eraser and an exacto knive and sliced off little pieces to put behind the negative clips. I haven't had a chance to see if it helps (my 60cs was shutting off when mounted on my motorcycle).
  21. I had Windows XP prompt me to put Disk 1 back in after CS asked for Disk 2 and I popped out Disk 1 to put in Disk 2. I just ignored the Windows prompt until CS asked for Disk 1 again. I could imagine that would really mess people up. Other than that, install went smoothly.
  22. I see that the terraserver dot is not exactly in the right spot, so the php gd version would actually be more accurate if it is available.
  23. Here is a php version that doesn't require the gd library (the library stuff is commented out) - note you don't even need PHP - you can hard-code the parameters in the IMG tag. Thanks, CoyoteRed, for the idea! This will definitely suit my purposes for replacing LostOutdoors maps on my own page: <?php // settings: $w = 700; $h = 500; $lat = 32.977533; $lon = -117.270183; $s = 10; // 10-19 $t = 1; // 1=aerial, 2=topo $p = "22:$lon:$lat"; // 22 is a blue dot // use image tag instead of gd lib: echo "<IMG SRC='http://terraserver-usa.com/GetImageArea.ashx?t=$t&s=$s&lon=$lon&lat=$lat&w=$w&h=$h&p=$p'>"; // all the remaining lines are commented out: //grab map from server //$image = imagecreatefromjpeg("http://terraserver-usa.com/GetImageArea.ashx?t=$t&s=$s&lon=$lon&lat=$lat&w=$w&h=$h&p=$p"); //define some colors //$red = imagecolorallocate($image, 0xFF, 0x00, 0x00); //$blk = imagecolorallocate($image, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00); //draw red dot and then black outline //imagefilledellipse($image, $w/2, $h/2, 6, 6, $red); //imageellipse($image, $w/2, $h/2, 7, 7, $blk); //send it //header("Content-type: image/jpeg"); //imagejpeg($image); //imagedestroy($image); ?>
  24. You can also use mapblast.com and the coords will be in the URL of the resulting map.
  25. Looks like a Raleigh Chopper I used to have in 1970, except mine wasn't so rusty!
