  7. Well, it's certainly not 10+ years, but the Rock Island Getaway event (GC46GWX) in Wisconsin celebrated it's 9th year in 2013. It is the longest running member-hosted (as opposed to organization) event in Wisconsin.

  11. Interesting. From the cache page, I assumed that it was a typical multicache. Redirect in the first stage (a nano) and the log book is in stage 2 (regular). Did you sign a log book, or did you just find stage 1 and consider that a "find"? Or is there a log book in stage 1 and the cache is no longer a multicache? B. It's a typical multicache. WP1 is a container (nano) holding coords to the final (regular) which holds the logbook (yeah, I signed the logbook - twice actually!). If the OP needs help, the CO is a great guy and would offer assistance if asked!!
  12. I did that one some time ago. No need to climb or play around the spiderweb thingy unless you want to do it for fun. I remember WP1 was a bit of a reach for me while keeping both feet on the ground....and WP1 is a container......
  13. Indeed, he spearheaded the effort to have a GEOCAC benchmark monumented in every state. I'm proud to say I was one of the first benchmark hunters to aid the effort, and for my trouble he sent me a GEOCAC benchmark coin. (the shiny one on the left) GEOCAC Benchmark Geocoin We took up his challenge and got a GEOCAC benchmark placed in Wisconisn. (The third in the country). So sorry to hear of his passing. Never met him in person, but he will be greatly missed!!! Prayers go out to his family.
  14. CONGRATS to the winners!!! And Great job everyone!! It was all fun to read!!!
  15. Eh, not 146 minutes between posts, but what da hey..... My first trip to Vancouver B.C. in 2007 (to attend a Stargate convention of all things). Decided to go to Capilano. In the pouring rain. (Does it ever stop raining?!?! NO! ) Second time to Vancouver B.C. 2008 (Eh, another Stargate Convention). This time I hiked the Grouse Grind! Even got some caching done in Stanley park as well. I'm well camoed Eh?? Laughed when the Canadians on the tour bus started singing a song aboot burning down the White House in the War of 1812. I'll give ya that one Eh!
  16. Cachers who place caches on road signs within 20 feet of someone's front door or window. Then warning cachers to use extreme stealth so as to not alert those living there. Even though it's public property, doesn't mean it's the smartest place to hide a cache. Found two of these and promptly put the rest on ignore.
  17. Most of the city is cleaned out for now. A 1.5 hour drive south and we're in the "Geocaching Capital of the Midwest"......thankfully that hasn't migrated this way.
  18. When I first started caching, there was a multi similiar to this idea (GCEFDC). Except there was only one "correct answer". The first WP consisted of two sets on coordinates. One way led to a dead end (no log book) and the other way led to an ammo box with the log book. I thought it was a pretty cool cache concept.
  19. We had a cute little astronaut dude (TBGDVZ) that wanted to go repair the Hubble Space Telescope! He got lost in Kansas several years ago....
  20. Since getting certified, my hubby and son have found a cache while scuba diving (and DNF'd another). Not to many of those around though....
  21. My hubby and son went scuba diving in the quarry where an Earthcache is located. Even though they were there for a scuba geocache, they took advantage to explore the quarry from underneath the water as well as above it for the Earthcache. Hubby commented that diving offered an interesting perspective - both above and below the water.
  22. Ya, it's still in beta See this website: http://ngs.tsqmadness.com/droid/ and this thread: http://forums.Ground...pic=275377&st=0 Send him an email and he'll add you to the beta testing list. It's still being worked on. It had issues on larger devices (tablets), and now that I got my hands on one, some more development will happen. I expect to actually get it posted in the Market sometime in May. --Mike. It looks so awesome! Can't wait to get it for our phones. Hubby and I have been talking how we miss benchmarking and need to get back out there! This will certanly make it easier!
  23. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease (acquired most likey in Missouri, Kansas or Oklahoma - it was a cache at the tri-state border marker where I got the tick) last summer. I shouldn't be too worried about the ticks as I don't think I can get much worse than I already am. Ok, I do worry about me but not as much as I worry about my son and hubby and everyone else out there getting this dreaded disease. No one should ever suffer from Lyme. Be safe out there folks. Deet and Permethrin up and do regular and diligent tick checks on yourselves and your loved ones. And make sure you if you are in tick infested areas you at least walk out with a smiley and not a DNF.
  24. [ No, that is not entirely correct. I DID NOT have auto visit turned on on my phone app without my knowledge. My husband turned on his auto visit setting on his phone and didn't tell me (and he does most of the phone logging). Not the same thing dear. And my later post explained this. I did not (and do not) have my auto visit setting turned on on my app. When hubby logged from his phone the auto vists were generated. I never generated auto visits on the rare occassion I did log from my phone becaue I DID NOT enable the feature (and hey, IMO phone logs suck as much as pages of auto-visit logs - all cut and paste and no real content if any). The auto visit setting on the c:geo app is not an automatically enabled setting without a person's knowledge. It has to manually be turned on by the app user in the app settings. It's not a default setting when downloaded nor is it a default setting when its updated. I've used this app for several months, had it updated several times, and still the auto visit feature hasn't been enabled. And hubby no longer has his auto-visit setting enabled either after I told him about the auto visit logs. I don't know what program is logging TBs in caches if it's not in a cacher's inventory. THat would be interesting to find out. THe app in question works on the same premise as online logging. You can't visit or drop off TBs if they aren't showing up in your inventory. Now if a cacher dumped a TB into a cache and never recorded it, I can see the issue. But most cachers that I know of, usually are very good at proper logging of TBs and I don't worry about it much. It's my TBs that are picked up by cachers and never heard from again that I have a problem with. I got tired of the "discovered' feature - people would be happy to discover my TBs but never move them. I would be happy with blank auto visit logs that at least show my TB is moving, rather than sitting somewhere. I think TB owners should have the option to enable or disable auto visit logs on their bugs. Maybe this would be a good compromise. Those who don't want pages of blank logs, won't get them and those who do like to take bugs to every cache can do so and not worry about owners getting upset over blank auto visit logs. And perhaps the perception of the app that automatically auto-visits TBs (which it doesn't), won't be of concern.
