  1. I think that may be a no as it is a commercially run private enterprise - they do weddings etc. However I shall ask my colleagues for their opinions and get back to you. 2. Which organisation/park is it? National Trust properties are allowed and so is a charge for access to their parks and gardens as long as it is a reasonable charge. Other organisations may not be allowed if they have charitable status or are commercial. Local authorities are usually OK. 3. I think I answered your question in the UK Geocaching Facebook group earlier. But to clarify something. If you have a cache published it cannot later be changed to a different type. It would have to be archived and a new one created. If the cache had not been published the page could be 're-used' for another cache type. All aspects of the page can be edited. 4. I've written a guide on how to do a PQ and transfer it to any Garmin or Magellan GPS. It's written for a Windows PC but if you are using a MAC the process is the same, you are just copying two files from the PC/MAC to a folder on the GPS. Scroll the bottom of this page on Paperless caching on my resource site for the links to the guides. 5. There is a deleted 'Needs Maintenance' log on the cache (11th Jan). That type of log will put the 'spanner' attribute on the cache and as others have said you can easily remove it. Deleting the log doesn't remove the attribute. 6. I've written a detailed (and easy to read) guide on how to do this for any Garmin or Magellan GPS. Go to my resources site, the page on Paperless caching and scroll down to the bottom. 7. Links to YouTube are allowed. Links to any other video site may be OK as long as they don't breach the guideline on commercial caches. For example, the site hosting the video is commercial and has advertisements on it. 8. Have a look at my resource site. There is information there about coordinates and map datums and how they work on your GPS. Includes OSGB. There are links to conversion sites that will help you. http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/gps.html#coords Chris Graculus Volunteer UK Reviewer for geocaching.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- UK Geocaching Wiki Geocaching.com Help Center UK Geocaching Information & Resources website
  9. On my resource site I've written a number of 'how to' documents (Adobe PDF) which explain doing a PQ and transferring it to your GPS. It assumes you are using Windows but all you are doing is transferring files from the PC to the GPS so the process is the same with a MAC. http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/paperless.html - docs at the bottom of the page. A very important resource for you is the Geocaching Wiki for your area. In it you'll find a lot of 'local' guidelines, places where caches are not allowed or allowed with permission and so on. https://wiki.Groundspeak.com/display/GEO/Australia Chris Graculus Volunteer UK Reviewer for geocaching.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- UK Geocaching Wiki Geocaching.com Help Center UK Geocaching Information & Resources website
  12. You've said you want it on your cache page and then say it doesn't show up on your profile? These are two different places. Where do you want the logo? To appear on one of your cache pages or to appear on your profile page? For a cache page the Help Center explains how to use HTML to add images. For your profile, just edit it and add the HTML code and it should then just appear. You are in the UK, so do you mean the Ordnance Survey maps? These are available for most browsers but require an add on script. Details of this one (and other useful scripts) on my resource site here. 14. Map Datum. You need to make sure this is set correctly. Page 60 in the user guide explains this. You need the Primary coords to be on Degrees, Minutes and datum WGS84. I guess you have the user guide but you can download a PDF version here which is easy to search for keywords. Understanding how to use the GPS before going caching. Try this. Stand outside your house on the street. Wait a few moments for the GPS to get a clear signal then mark the location - create a waypoint - just press the button marked with a pushpin. Now go and walk down your street about quarter of a mile - or more if you're adventurous!. In the GPS use the Find button (magnifying glass) to select the waypoint you created for your house and using the GPS navigate back to it. Obviously you know where you're going but watch the GPS compass and distance countdown so you can understand what it's telling you. Once you are comfortable using the GPS and it's showing a pretty good accuracy then go off and look for more caches. On my resource site (link under my signature) the page on GPS explains about the various features, accuracy etc which may be helpful. 15. The UK Geocaching Wiki has a huge amount of informtion about caching in the UK. It has details of those landowners who require you to get permission first; locations where you must show the reviewers you have permission as well as areas where caches may not be allowed. It also has the various maps the reviewers use when checking cache locations. You can use these yourself to check locations. 16. I can see your cache is in the queue waiting for review. It was submitted on the 24th and as today is Christmas your local reviewer may very be doing other things - I know I am! It'll get reviewed soon Chris Graculus Volunteer UK Reviewer for geocaching.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- UK Geocaching Wiki Geocaching.com Help Center UK Geocaching Information & Resources website
  17. My review of the GC was about 12 months ago. I no longer have the GC so it may be a software update has removed the feature to view child waypoints. I hope not. From the screen shots I did at the time of writing it the child waypoints appear in the Options menu when viewing a cache. You can also use the Waypoint menu - this shows not only the waypoints but which cache they belong to. 18. As a premium member you can do a Pocket Query. This is then copied to your eTrex. You get all the cache information that you see on the cache page. You can also copy individual caches from the webpage. A Pocket Query allows to you get up to 1000 caches at a time. I've written a simple guide explaining the whole process which you can download. You'll find it hereon my resource website as well as other information about paperless caching. You may get suggestions that you need another program such as GSAK or EasyGPS to do this. You don't. All you need is your PC, Windows or MAC and the eTrex. 19. If the cache does have waypoints with coordinates displayed, the GC has a great little feature to go to them. If you open a cache page to view the description there is an option to view the waypoints associated with it and you can simply navigate to them. If you need to work out coordinates then enter them manually you just click the joystick to enter a waypoint and then edit the value. I wrote a detailed review of the GC which you may find helpful. It includes loads of screen shots explaining the various features and you'll find how the feature I mentioned above works as well as how to add waypoints manually if you need to. The Magellan GC user guide is also excellent. 20. Click on the CO's name (Cache Owner) and then look at their geocaches (All geocaches). In the case of the one you linked to, the others in the series all show up in the list (third and fourth page in this case). 21. Hi - from that cache you linked to I guess you are in the UK. On my resource site I have a long list of bookmarks of various cache types, trails etc. For trails take at look at Geocaching Trails, about halfway down the list. You can find trails round the country and there is a link to the geocaching.com map which shows all the caches in the trail. It may have the answer you want. 23. Hi - I've just looked at the cache in the queue and it shows in a sports field some 20 meters from the nearest hedge. So it looks like there is still an issue. You say it's near a medieval cross. I can see this on the map (follow this link to see - it's the little orange dot to the North of the arrow marker. Note, as you drag the map the arrow won't stay on the cache location - quirk of the map!). That is over 100 meters away. Please note that map is absolutely correct. It is showing the location of the coordinates of the cache page. It's looking to me as if you've got the wrong map datum. Take a look at this post I've just made in another thread explaining about Lat and Long versus the Ordnance Survey British Grid. If you get these wrong the error is usually about 100 meters! Edited to add.. I see you've put coordinates in a reviewer note. These do seem correct. You need to edit the cache page coords to match. 24. You are in the UK. You need to check the GPS is set to Latitude and Longitude in the format HDDD° MM.MMM and the map datum as WGS84. If you are using Ordnance Survey coordinates you need it set to OSGB and British Grid. If you end up with Lat/Long on the British Grid datum (WGS36) the coords will be out by about 300 feet (100 meters). This page on my resource site explains it. 25. The EGNOS satellites in the UK are about 25 degrees above the horizon and it's not difficult to get a signal at all. Only if your southern horizon is obscured with mountains/buildings/trees will there be a problem. For more info about EGNOS in the UK (and the description also applies to WAAS in the the continental USA) see my resource site here. Don't forget by the way. If the guy who placed the cache had poor accuracy it won't matter if your GPS is pinpoint accurate to 1 inch... it will only show you where the other guys GPS thought it was!
