  1. You're welcome, but I believe the world already knows what splendid folks we are. It was between feeding the world's hungry, or sending you the cable. The cable was cheaper, obviously. Good deed for 2007? Check.
  2. You messages says all you data is gone, but the subject says all of your waypoints are gone. That's kindof two separate things. I don't think waypoints are stored on the card, as that's internal. Make sure it's installed correctly, and you slid the slider up to lock it in place (at first, I didn't realize this slid up to lock it in place and the card would frequently "eject" itself.
  3. I'd settle for cachemate-like functionality. However, I know these are technically "receivers" but I almost always have GPS reception with the 60CSx, but I don't always have cell phone reception in many areas I end up in. I wonder if it would be possible to implement "Help I've fallen and I can't get up" functionality that would alert emergency personnel to my location. My cell phone will do this, but of course I have worse coverage with it than my GPS. I figure it's only a matter of time before I need airlifted out of the woods anyways.
  4. Speak for yourself. Here in Central PA, we're having the best winter I can remember. It was near 70 degrees a couple of weeks ago, and we haven't had snow yet (although I did see flurries on two separate occassions, but they only lasted a few minutes). I love it.
  5. Are you talking about child waypoints?
  6. If you use %Smart instead of %Name, you don't have to worry about duplicates overwriting each other. If for example, you have multiple caches named "Walmart Parking Lot Number ###", %Name will result in all the caches named Walmar (with only one being on your GPS), as opposed to using %Smart, which will result in names such as Walma1, Walma2, Walma3...etc.
  7. Are they named 000.bmp, 001.bmp, etc? If they are named anything differently (i.e. Symbol1.bmp) they won't show up. That's about all I got.
  8. Pretty sure sharing those would violate the TOU. I ditto ponying up $3 for the one month thing...not sure why it would take a few days, as usually it's pretty instantaneous.
  9. [drool] Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Can't wait to try it out, as I've been waiting for this for awhile. [/drool]
  10. The only suggestion I have is to make sure your custom symbols are named correctly (they have to be named 000.bmp, 001.bmp, etc...). Also one more question....did you lose the symbols entirely, or just for waypoints you had already created? If you create a new waypoint, and then try to change the symbol, are the custom symbols in the list? I'm just wondering if it only affected waypoints you had created prior to upgrading.
  11. Dumb question, but where is Mapsource 7 at? The newest one on the site is from 12/7/06 and is 6.11.6. I must be missing something. Or did you mean you upgraded to City Select V7?
  12. Well, it depends....the unit will only accomodate so many map segments (regardless of the size of your memory card) on it. I forget the number, but I think it's in the 2000 range, which is no problem if you only are using navigation data, but try loading on topos also. As I said earlier, I got about 3/4 of the US and Eastern Canada, and then about 4 or 5 states worth of Topos before I ran out of space. That was about 960MB or so, but I'm not sure how many map segments that ended up being. The topos are much smaller segments than the road data is. If I didn't want the topos, I would have had plenty of room for most of North America, obviously. But yeah, the 1GB card is well worth it.
  13. 1) Yes 2) Yes (it beeps at turns, but doesn't talk to you. I assume you know that) I use Navigator NT and can fit most of North America on my 1GB card. I put about 3/4 of America on it, then Eastern Canada, then topos for my home state and the surrounding ones. I don't have it in front of me, but I think the maps are broke up into regions/states. So you can't load San Diego, but you could load California. However, when you upload maps to the unit, it overwrites any other maps....so if you want to "just load San Diego" you can load California, but all of your other maps will be gone, and you'll have to reload them when you get back. Loading maps takes awhile, so I tried to load everything I could, since if I need to add something, I have to re-upload everything, plus the new stuff.
  14. Nope, since that lists all of your waypoints. You can press "find" while on that screen and select symbols though, so you could find symbols that aren't treasure chests. Since I always point this out, you might want to take a look at my handy-dandy guide to using geocaching symbols. It will only list the 50 nearest waypoints (and only then if they are closer than 116 miles or so). You'll have to go to find->by name to get the rest. If all of your caches are the same symbol, you can just pull up the list by symbol and it will give all of them, I believe.
  15. I believe it was this thread That points to a couple caches such as: Liar Liar The Trading Post
  16. Caches are waypoints, so they'll show up on both. However, since caches are designated as a treasure chest, any additional waypoints you add (such as parking for instance) will not show up in geocaching mode, assuming you give it a different symbol.
  17. That's not it. It's this one. I'm nearly positive has been a thread about this very group and their attempt at this cache. I am not a fan of liars caches. I firmly believe that the difficulty and terrain ratings should be accurate and that the cache description should give only correct information. If people get used to not being able to trust the ratings and description, we run the risk of people going after caches that are truly dangerous and not being prepared. Some could certainly get injured or worse. I suspect that if GC.com is aware of these misratings, then a talented lawyer could pierce the protections provided by the disclaimer. As far as the article goes, I liked it. She has moxie. Oh, well that one is even more obvious that it's a liar's cache. One guy even said he went back to the car, got a saw, and built his own bridge to cross a crevice. Good stuff. I thought the other one seemed a little too subtle for a liar's cache.
  18. for a second there I got excited since I'm a 30 something family with a 5 year old boy and recently lost my camera, but have no idea how it would have ended up in Connecticut. Glad you found them. I'll be they'll be thankful.
  19. I only had to look at the map and read a couple logs to recognize what this is...I mean people claim to be bringing stilts, rope ladders, cordless saws and gas lanterns. I think it's pretty obvious it's a liar's cache, but again, I suppose if you've never heard of one or realized they existed, you might not catch on. If I was driving a long distance to this cache, I would verify with the cache owner what kindof equipment to bring (as with any high-difficulty-terrain cache), and then I would hope that he would point out that maybe I shouldn't be driving 2 or 3 hundred miles for the cache. I particularly like how the difficulty is only 4.5 though...lends that sense of realism. As far as liar's caches go, I'm not a big fan of them, for the same reason the OP points out. Unless it's blatantly obvious, it could lead to bad experiences. The cache in question here is pretty subtle. Granted the coordinates for the parking are really close to the first stage, but since it's a multi, you can't count on that being a good indicator of the difficulty.
  20. I'll throw in my vote for this too (I would guess it's about 30-40% of the time I find a TB that doesn't have a mission sheet with it). Hopefully TPTB at GSAK and Cachemate would update their programs to take advantage of this info too, but that's probably a given. It would also be nice if we could get some more info about the TB also, such as when it was put in the cache. I will take TBs that have been sitting in a cache a long time, even if I can't help them along in their mission other than to move them to a busier cache.
  21. Seems to work fine for me, so it must just be you I echo that you should post something over in the GSAK forums.
  22. This is available using a macro (see this thread). I haven't set it up yet, and Clyde said it would be built in functionality in a future release.
  23. This thread is working out great, considering the newest 7 threads are all congratulatory threads. I wish this could be made a sticky.
  24. I had my first GPS (a Garmin Yellow) for about just shy of 3 years before it broke. I pulled out the batteries to change them and the battery contacts (those small little metal things) snapped off and went flying into the weeds. Good thing I was standing by my car rather than 5 miles out in the woods or I would've been annoyed. Hence why I always carry a compass with me. My new one is a 60CSx but it's only a couple months old.
